Hey I own a 1984 Toyota 4Runner that I've just bought that already has a (pretty sure) 1st gen 1UZ-FE conversion been done and I can't quite remember the gearbox it has but I do have all the paperwork with all the receipts from work that has been done on the 4Runner and I do remember seeing the gearbox model in there. Anyway I have a few questions if I may. Firstly, What gearbox would you recommend for this set up for me to safely be able to do some decent off roading in the old girl and possibly handle a future supercharger? Secondly, it's running the stock ecu at the moment that has a few minor issues so what would you recommend I change that to? (I'm a kiwi living in Australia so I can get parts easily from either). Thirdly, What are your thoughts on diff and the rest of the driveline options with that engine? Any help on any of these questions would be very valued in what I want to do with my new Toy.
Its easy to tell gearbox if its small or large by the drain plug as explained in the video. Strong box is the R series which is what I use. R151F or R150F. For ecu I prefer link. I always use aftermarket for boosting. Diffs are notmally ok unless the driver is complete animal then upgrades like safari or landcruiser. Cheers Kelvin

The stock 80 series gearbox is my preferred option.
this should work with R154 right?
@@CartuneNZ Ok so either the R151F or the R150F will put the shifter in the right position in the cab as well then?
Cheers, Jase
@@levinlarge the R151 has shifter further forward than R150. As I dont know how the motor is fitted I can judge where shifter will sit sorry as different models and shifter positions. Cheers
@@CartuneNZ Ok then so if I go back and find out what hearbox is in there now then I suppose I can work it out from there as to where both the R150F and the R151F sit in comparison as I want it to be in the relatively same position to that. What's in there now looks nice and stock so I want to go with that same factory look.
Ok so its fot the G52 5speed box in it which has "upgraded internals and re-built" apparently. Well according to all of the paper work I have for the old girl anyway.
If my alternator is bad will that make my od light come on and start flashing
Possible but more likely the ecu is detecting a transmission fault. Have you checked the codes?
What's the best option for adapters to mate up R151 to Gear driven transfer case? Trailgear? Or is there another option out there?
Hello Ben. There is one R151 which we have running a hilux gear driven transfer which we are about to replace with an auto. We generally use the hilux transfer as they are easy to get over here and in the past have used a advanced adaptors kit. Best is really what is available in your market. How hard are you driving it? There are quite a few other transfers out there that are super strong with plenty of parts around for that we don't see much of over here unfortunately. Cheers
@@CartuneNZ I have the original chain driven transfer case with 1kzte and R151 gearbox i pulled out of kzn130, they will eventually be going into my ln106 with a Kiapoi manual pump and was told to keep gear driven transfer case as they alot stronger but have only recently found out i will need an adapter kit to mate them up
@@benwilliamson672 They are stronger but how much stronger do you need? I run most of my 1uz conversions on the chain driven transfer, even turbo ones. I had a 400rwhp surf with chain driven transfer. I have very few issues with them. Your truck sounds interesting. Cheers.
Esa campana tiene para el motor 3uz-fe
Yes sir I got your message about o'd light flashing in 95lexus sc400 I no it has something do with trans but whats the reason does it mean my trans is gone I don't drive hard I baby this car I'm just tired of looking at it I want to ride please help me with some tips of what May be wrong please move over here we need you here
You need to check what the fault code is. Its pretty to understand that isnt it? Like test your car.
Ok I had the battery unhooked for awhile I hooked it up just to crank and let it run I put it gear and go forward and backward just in my yard now the light want come on I was told it can't be checked unless light is on I havnt driven down road to see if its shifting these guys over here not smart like you
@@CartuneNZa guy I work with said something bout solenoid
I would drive it until it faults. If it does, then I would have my test gear, you could use a paper clip, and check code. It could be a solenoid and I have a video on testing that, but I dont guess, I test. I recommend you do the same.
@@CartuneNZ yes sir I will thanks so much God's good
It would be really helpful if you could do one of these about 4wd transfer boxes on auto boxes
Hello Alex. There happens to be an auto trans on my bench right now getting a 4x4 transfer so a video is on its way. Cheers.
@@CartuneNZ I'm up for that video😎 A343F by any chance?
@@vwbeetle5578 Hello Micheal. Hope all is well in Africa. We will be converting a stock 1uz A341 auto to 4x4 using the transfer off a A343. Its still a VF series transfer like the manuals run. Cheers
any more info on that release bearing? not using a fork??
We are swapping another gearbox atm using an internal release bearing so hopefully that gets edited.
@@CartuneNZ do you have anymore information on it? I'd like to put one in my 1992 r150f, where can i buy one?
Its a kitset which we make ourselves. Email info@thecartunecompany.co.nz for pricing
@@qhay180 yep. Email and I can give more details. Cheers Kelvin
lots of useful info!
Glad to hear that!
Where can I buy the bellhousing on the r151f to 1uz
The bellhousing is a unit which I stock and sell. Cheers Kelvin
CartuneNZ ok how can I buy one
Send an email to info@thecartunecompany.co.nz
Is it possible to put the r154 internals into a r151 ?
Hello Alfie. Hope you are well. Some of the internals are interchangeable between the two some are not. What we do is use the r154 upgraded centre bearing retainer, thrust washer and shift fork into the r150/r151. The upgraded reverse fork doesn't fit. I haven't played with gear swaps for years now and my memory is a bit fuzzy on that part of it sorry. Cheers Kelvin.
What’s ur thoughts on the W series..?
I avoid the W series if there is a stronger option which will work, which in NZ there pretty much always is. cheers Kelvin
Thanks man!
