I was an addict, tried to watch this 7 years ago but I have no guts to watch it, just 30 minutes of the film and I said fucked this it's too real. Until now I have to guts to watch it.
As a 15 years old i had my first psicotic episode, and it changed me in good way, i feel like i lost a part of myself, and also that i get a new part of me...is my case, others dont go with the same lucky
This movie is basically an opera...everytime we hear this music, something very pivotal in the storyline has taken place and the seeds of changes are in order...The Requiem has been set in motion....
I don't know if I'm fucked up or what but I'm the only person I know that could watch this movie over again every day. Might be because I work in film so I can distinguish it differently but no one will ever sit down and actually watch it with me. One of the best movies ever made
Everything is very symbolic, the women push the baby strollers. they push the television... They pass by the rollercoster, a symbol to what will become their lives... They are are in constant motion in opposition to the old ladies are in observant position... The camera is also in motion all time and is trembling, like in a rollercoaster. This intro is the act of a genius.
What great symbolic in this opening scene : they are litterally passing by life itself : the babies, the dry fire hydrant (the same that kids used to play with in summer heat), the closed amusement park, etc... Everyone that liked the movie should read Selby's book. One of the best book ever written by man's hand to my opinion (with Céline "Voyage au bout de la nuit" and Suskind "Das Parfum")

I like this version of Lux Aetera in the beginning. Don't get me wrong, I love the rest of the movie's score, but this opening version of Lux Aetera is different, and just sounds good in a different kind of way.
Idk y but the way that Harry says “hello” at 0:27 in an annoyed manner like a grumpy child makes me laugh so hard lmao. He sounds just like me in social situations when I have to talk to people I don’t like
Spuzva Rahil I'm sorry your friend feels dependent on weed, but that's just not the case for everyone. In fact, it's not the case for most people. The truth is that there are millions of people who smoke weed casually and stop when they need to. Unlike drugs like heroin or cocaine, marijuana is not psychically addictive. However, it *is* psychologically addictive, meaning one can still grow a strong dependency on it. Again, I''m sorry you have bad experiences with the drug, but there are many people who smoke weed for fun and are perfectly healthy.
Spuzva Rahil Maybe you’re not familiar with the word “ psychological” but that’s exactly what I was saying. Drugs can be physically addictive, and they can be psyhologically addictive. Weed is the former. Which is the same thing as what you said.
妙dark no what? no, weed isn’t psychologically addictive? because it is. seriously, anyone with a brain can do a 2 minute google search and find this out.
While listening to this, does anybody else feel like screaming out in joy as well as sadness for all the things we could have been but never became, but still believe we are born from stars, an indomitable entity of the cosmos looking for purpose and realizing that our time in life is slowly coming to an end, one minute at a time...
Harika bir müzik yapmış Clint Mansell hayran olmamak mümkün değil. Söz olmadan bu tarz müthiş müzikleri dinlemesine bayılıyorum. İnsanı alıp götürüyor.
When I first watched this earlier this Summer, I was surprised to hear the main theme--usually, I'd associated it with epic fantasy, assuming "Requiem for a dream" was just its title, upon realizing that this is where it came from!

+Ashley Penrod I have. Gainsbourg used to call the kids that hadn't fell in dope addiction "Les enfants de la chance" (children of luck) ; he's quite right about this song....
I've read a lot of online comments that say something like "this movie shows how casual use can turn into addiction" even though this scene shows clearly that Harry is a drug addict at the start of the movie. Requiem gets the audience to buy into Harry's delusions and not think too much about the fact that he stole from his own mother repeatedly to feed his "casual drug use".
I really love how you ripped this clip from the original DVD. It gives the film more of "muck and mire" kind of feel in terms of what kind of camera film that the whole movie was recorded in.
jesus man, why'd you leave out the first part? it's what makes this intro so great. the way sara goldfarb says "in the end it's all nice" before the title slams over the screen. it really sets the tone.
I wonder if the inclusion of a shot of a tree of heaven at 2:13 was deliberate. That plant has become associated with urban decline, the so called 'ghetto palm' or 'tree of hell'. And has been used as a metaphor in the book 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn': "There's a tree that grows in Brooklyn. Some people call it the Tree of Heaven. No matter where its seed falls, it makes a tree which struggles to reach the sky. It grows in boarded up lots and out of neglected rubbish heaps. It grows up out of cellar gratings. It is the only tree that grows out of cement. It grows lushly...survives without sun, water, and seemingly earth. It would be considered beautiful except that there are too many of it."
when I was in addiction , around the time this came out..everytime I was in withdrawal, or I had to do something degrading to get the heroin, this music would start playing in my head :(

I love how you could put the Benny Hill theme over this is and it would still fit in place but the fact that Lux Aeterna plays over it, it make The Lord Of The Rings trek to Mordor look like a walk in the park
