  • The nation of Texas is tricky; the country of Texas is tough. Song is "So This Is When It Comes" from 2011 album "Backyards": www.thehereaft....

It's all about the primal scream for dogs. That, and pepper spray in the outer pocket of your handlebar bag. :)

"Why am I doing this?!?" will ALWAYS be a MUCH MORE fulfilling self-contemplative question to ask oneself versus: "Why didn't I do that?!?"
Never been to TX. . .some beautiful yet also some terrifying shots/observations.
    (That's a compliment).
Thankful for Videodes. Thank You for sharing. Hope all ended up A-OK. 🌪🥕😊

Hope you're feeling better, brother! I've had a few dog encounters on my rides and can confirm that they are no fun. The ambition of these voyages is amazing, hopefully other ones treat you better than Texas.

All better. And fully armed to take on the dogs of San Antonio.

Wise move to change plans. Ya can’t mess with Texas, dogs or no dogs. Hope you’re feeling better! I’m wondering if maybe it was dehydration or heat stroke you were feeling. Stay cool my friend!

Thanks for the validation. It was definitely the right call. I think it was the heat plus whatever bug was creeping up - I’m pretty good about hydration.

Been there with the loose dogs in Texas (though I hear Kentucky is actually the worst for them, somehow?) but yeah man, it sucks. There've definitely been times I've grabbed handfuls of rocks. I definitely keep the pepper spray handy. But yeah man, watching this, I remember bike tour. Was just saying the other day that, just by the fact that people bike tour again and again, means somehow that they block out just how hard bike tour really is. Heheh.

Yeah man. Um…I’m learning. I have Halt! spray and a Dazer-II Ultrasonic Deterrent. 🤷‍♂️ Seems to be some conflicting opinions online about going to war with the dogs vs. getting off and walking the bike and they become friendly suddenly? I think if I had tried that in West Texas I would’ve been severely mauled.

@@johnelliottvideos I definitely would not rely on dogs becoming friendly once you get off the bike. The only time I get off the bike when there's a dog coming at me is to put the bike between me and the dog and then to hit it with my u-lock or my pepper spray if it's trying to attack me

      (I've never hit a dog with a U-Lock, btw...)

When every dog has its day,
I have just two words to say:
    Bear spray.
Hope you're feeling better, John (I know this was a couple weeks old, so I really hope you're feeling better)

Apparently bear spray is way too tough for a dog and could seriously injure them, but I’m rollin armed with “Halt!” spray and some kind of high tone emitter so…we’ll see.

Good decision. I don't think the dog situation would have gotten any better in Texas. Why not get a small van to travel to your gigs? Feel better!

      I mean…yeah, maybe I’ll just get a Subaru. :)
