    Thank you so much, I was at Toyota today getting my oil changed and tires rotated on my 2008 Tundra ( Wife had a bunch of coupons, saved a lot of money), I asked them for the price Toyota wanted for changing the transmission fluid and to change the coolant, I am glad I had my cane with me, the prices floored me, I actually told them :”YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
    I bought “Toyota Coolant” there, (should not have $31.00 a gallon) and will flush tonight AND thanks to your video, I will change my transmission fluid this weekend.
    You have saved me a lot of money plus I can get more tools without the wife going nuts!!!!!!!! 😹

      Now I see why if this job is done correctly by either a Toyota service shop or your trusted local mechanic the cost will run upwards from a couple hundred dollars to over three hundred, the latter is what the dealer will charge in my town here in Arizona.
      I was hoping to see what the dipstick reading was at until I realized your model year likely doesn't have a dipstick. My 2003 4.7L Tundra does have the stick.
      Overall a very in depth well published DIY video.

    Awesome video. Many thanks! Edit: I got as far as snapping three bolts on my trans fluid pan. Filled it back the 3.25 quarts I drained and called it a day for now. I want to caution anyone thinking of doing this and going hog wild trying to remove the pan - DO NOT DO IT!! You will find yourself in a world of pain. I talked to a few shops today and the consensus is there is absolutely no reason to ever pull the pan or change the screen inside.
    Other than that, really appreciate the video.

      @@DIYJIM Another question: is there no risk idling the truck and cycling through the gears with either too little or too much ATF? I think I'm going to try the gravity feed method rather than buying a pump. BTW, the link to your pump is broken - perhaps that one is no longer available. Thanks again.

    • @DIYJIM
      @DIYJIM  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benschmolze1266 sorry I do not want to tell you something wrong. But I would guess there is always a risk of idling to long if you have to little or too much ATF. You can look for a different pump on Amazon. I’ll have to see if I can fix my link. Thanks for watching and letting me know my link is not working.

    • @Mattschindig

      I would try and spray all the bolts with some Kroil penetrating oil and let those soak a bit especially if you have high mileage or live in a rust prone environment and not use a impact until you can loosen them with a socket and ratchet. Also he shows in the video that he put an extra quart in to probably help with the peace of mind of not running it low, but in reality with the truck just running in short intervals while draining a few quarts out a few at a time which like he showed by adding one in the beginning wouldn't hurt. Transmission gears aren't going to be going Ludacris speed at idle so no worries.

    Thanks for the clean presentation.
    Your one of the only others I saw that also warmed up the New WS. I did it on my 2006 A750Fthinking about expansion of hot fluids, it worked out perfectly. Owned since new, never touched until 2020 @ 97.5K so I knew levels were spec.
    Doing one more Double D&F at 110-120K, two more D&Fs, then Filter Change/Full Exchange at 250K.
    I only did the Gallon&1/2 double D&F originally, but you made doing the flush look easy!

    Great job as always. Should do this complete job on my 06 DC 4X4 eventually. Did a double D&F at ~85K but didn't block open my bypass/drop pan.
    At 102K now so will Double D&F once more by 125K as well as another Difs/Transfer Case refill.

    Great video! Very easy to understand. Out of all the many forums and opinions none ever mentioned pulling the pan and changing the filter. I been doing my own maint for years and had vehicles go over 300,000 with regular maintenance including tranny services.this is essentially no different then a good old Chevy pu, aside of the method of the level ck. I would have been uneasy had I done just a drain and fill, like it was incomplete. Thanks again for cutting through the many BS methods and opinions!

    I Have 2007 Toyota tundra with 160K.. shifting out of low speed to higher speeds had some issues. Had dealer flush transmission fluid ( they did not recommend it) after i agreed not to hold them liable , they flushed out old and put in new. Problems solved. I have not found any shops in my area that would perform the change like this video shows.

    I never changed the transmission fluids at the required intervals (well according to Toyota it never needs changing) and now have 104k miles on the Sequoia so I am afraid to remove and replace all the fluids because of potential problems so I am just doing the drain and fill method at this point. I removed and replaced 4-1/4 quarts which is a 1/3 of the total capacity. I will do this at regular intervals from now on.

    Thanks for vid. Question. You said that eventually the truck will start to suck air when you remove the return line and leave it on for too long. If it sucks air for a few seconds is that okay? It won't damage anything? Thanks again

      @DIY JIM thank you I bought my 2008 double cab last year love the truck but when it comes to maintenance not so good.everything seems like a big secret or cost to much to get it done I'm a diy kind of guy I will tackle just about any job but do my home work first with toyota you really have to navigate quite a few areas I found in the maintenence arena to be comfortable on doing just that maintenance. I think they really try and keep it in the house so to speak for highly trained toyota technicians. Was glad you put your video out that you did to save a little money on something that might be needed down. The line I'm retired military so try and save anything way I can thanks again for video it truly was a great class with which you didn't leave in my opinion nothing out including safety and tips to help make the job easier or better and recommended your video to a couple friends .one I helped and one wanted to do it by himself both said the same and said they will do the same as far as recommendation and a like

    Over the years of working on motorcycles and clutch covers its not a bad idea when dealing with a pan/cover that has a lot of bolts to just grab a piece of cardboard and draw a outline of in this case the transmission pan and filter and punch out holes with a screwdriver and place the bolts in those holes. That way if you do have a longer bolt you wont be searching the internet and panicking. Plus its never a bad idea to put bolts back in the same threaded hole they came out of.

    Hey man good video, I have a question. When draining the excess new oil with the check plug, how did you know when to put the plug back in? I have an 4.7 06 tundra, probably some differences but I'm hoping its similar.

  • @pmbjngls
    @pmbjngls 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, I didn't do a full flush. I just did a partial change at the pan. I had 4 quarts come out while the tranny was cold, so I put 4 quarts back in. I heated the pan to 120-125 and ended up having an entire quart drain back out at the level drain. Has me a little nervous, but I think that whoever did it previously put a little too much in.
