Not a hobby nightmare but a hobby W, but i sent a girl a warhammer 40k meme and now she took interest in the hobby and is now reading and listening to the audiobooks. Now she sends me 40k memes back and tells me all about the audiobooks.
Way to go Sarah! 🎉 North, I have been listening to you since somewhere between the end of 2019 or 2020 when you did your GW staffer video (I honestly cannot remember when it was exactly). I love hearing these follow-up stories how you have affected people were they pushed themsevles to ask the person out, to do the thing, or to better themselves.
hi North. Love your vids. About that overwatch thing at 23:00: The stratagem CAN be used after a unit finishes a charge in 2 cases: one - the unit that finished the charge move is a vehicle/monster. those can be targeted while in close combat. and two: if a unit charges into a vehicle/monster, as those are eligible to shoot while in combat, they can overwatch a unit that charged into them. Yes, GW wording is sometimes very difficult and we need to combine 2 or more rules from different places of the rulebook, but this one is actually written pretty well. That player is just twisting the wording to fit his situation. Keep up the good work
I've been on the other end of the relationship, where my girlfriend thought she "wasn't hot enough". You seem to forget that we choose to be with you, we want to be with you, and it's just that simple (sorry it doesn't sound romantic but it's just the truth).
I don't understand why that isn't seen as romantic though. You know this person and her faults, but you choose to stay with her. Not only do you see her as "hot enough", but your rational mind has chosen to have and maintain an emotional connection with her despite all of the flaws that she is worried about.
A lot of people out their deserve a little understanding and grace in life. "Grace??!! She died 30 years ago!!" ("National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" movie scene. A festive holiday reference to the pre-dinner the table grace scene.)
23:09 as much as I agree that 40k has it's problems with rules the Overwatch stratagem isn't obtuse at all, it's really clear: "When: Your opponent's Movement or Charge phase, just after an enemy unit is set up or when an enemy unit starts or ends a Normal, Advance or Fallback move or declares a charge. Target: One unit from your army (excluding TITANIC units) within 24" of that enemy unit and that would be eligble to shoot if it were your Shooting Phase." - Warhammer 40,000 The App V1.24.0 (64) He can't even shoot after a charge move is made, you need to do it when it's declared
Sounds like that guy was INTENTIONALLY Misinterpreting the charge and overwatch rules. Its not really the fault of the writing of the rules, granted they could be better, but its people intentionally misreading them on purpose to gain an advantage. The Charge rules are stated that way because some edge cases with armies, you can fail a charge and still move the models, allowing overwatch to happen once they have ended their charge. Tau have (well had) something where if you end a charge in melee with a unit, that the others nearby could still fire overwatch (within 3")
Good on Sarah and John , here's hoping they go far together. As for nightmare, people like Jim is the reason that I've completely walked away from tournaments. I say that as someone who has played a Jim and has been the Jim.
Well, before changing it, you really could shoot Overwatch at the end of a charge. If your unit got pistols or is a Vehicle eligible for Big Guns Never Tire, that is.
Nah, Jim was angleshooting by misinterpreting rules in his favor. Pretty sure he meant both he and James could reroll against each other’s Oath targets, which would be prevented under the rules pack. Also, the “fire OW at end of charge sequence” is intended for vehicles and monsters with guns or units with pistols. I think that just got removed in today’s balance update though. Jim was just straight up wrong, the rules on OW are actually quite clear.
Hey North, The Display version of the figures, I understand they are too brittle to be playing with but how survivable are they if I wanted to paint them and put them on a shelf because I like the look of them? I am really into the lore, and I keep thinking it would be cool to get and paint some models maybe to make something like a Diorama. would the display versions be too fragile for a Diorama if I was just going to store it on a shelf after making it? Sarah don't judge yourself by Gabriel, she cheated on him, she made his life a living hell and I am 100% sure that he is happier now than he would ever be with a person like that!
They are not brittle, just not as tough as regular models. Basically - don't drop them on hard surfaces. I have some myself and I play with them with the Mrs when we do AoS.
@@northernexile Awesome, I have had this desire to make a diorama and there are some Amazing looking models on the site that I can totally see using. Thanks for the info, sir!
-38⁰C cute I worked in fort Nelson Canada where every morning was -40⁰C without wind chill and we only got a day off if it hit -55⁰C I were shorts and a t-shirt (this is not exaggerating) till -20⁰C once it's colder than that I will put on a hoody.
I don't believe we have heard this one, but there have been a couple of similar ones of playing in super cold weather, leading to various horror stories.
36:00 [Edit] got my answer... Is John her crush that had the girlfriend with "-take your eyes of my man, bitch!" reaction, or the other dude that liked her, but she didn't want much with him?
Wait i though biologis can only be attached to gravis units and cannot be attached to hellblasters, i remember my dark angels friend would attach a lieutenant for the lethal hits or an apthecary for the revive
It absolutely is not the rules' fault, with regards to the Overwatch story. It is very clear that Jim is wrong. The only way to prevent rules lawyering at that level are rules at the chess-level of simplicity
They didn't originate it, but they refined it into a proper system and were the first to adopt it. There's records from a few years before the first french mention in the writings of an English guy. Can't remember his name, but he was connected to Oliver Cromwell somehow.
@Ng-zg4dq the strat says you have to be eligible to shoot in your shooting phase. Pistols let's you shoot in engagement range. you can only shoot the Pistols. Stuff like big guns doesn't let you because it's an ability.
North, have you tried playing Necromunda? I recently discovered it after thinking of getting back into 40k having left in 5th-6th edition and not liking the rules of 10th. It's been hella fun mate, then I play AoS if I'm feeling for a larger game
I can understand that misinterpretation of overwatch, the rules are pretty badly written regarding overwatching on a charge. Also with big guns never tire and out of phase shooting. I think they've even changed them as of yesterday as there was pretty much no situation where you'd be able to shoot at the end of a charge.
Love the stories, agree with a lot of the relationship asymmetry stuff, but I think you should be a bit more careful how you talk about those things. Women definitely have an easier time getting men, I won't argue with that, or any of that line of reasoning. I took umbrage when you said 'if the girl you're after has brothers, ask her out, she's more empathetic to the plight of men' (paraphrased, forgive me) I can generally agree with your statement, but I think that's almost getting into the pseudoscientific prescription type narrative. Women aren't machines just like we aren't machines. Guys are simple in some ways, sure, but if a woman ever told me she thought she had a sure shot with me just because I have a sister, I would find that weird (and yes, I'm saying this aware that there is a lot of inherent asymmetry between men and women). I just think it comes off a bit too much like 'all women are xyz' which is traditionally considered to be a pretty sexist line of argumentation. To be clear, I'm not calling you a sexist or saying this is toxic and needs to be taken down, I am just asking/suggesting that you take a bit more care in how you paint people whose experiences you can't be certain of. You may fully believe what you're saying (as do I) but you've never been a woman with a brother, so you can't say with any more certainty that things work that way. If you can, what's stopping you from hypothetically sympathizing with the plight of a starving African child, or a burn victim, or The Pope, and telling yourself 'well I've observed how these people behave and react, therefore I understand them wholly' Always appreciate a good bit of fun, just some food for thought.
I live in canada, and have worked in northern canada alot over the years, where it will routinely get between -30c to -50c The diffrence is its a super dry cold, as long as your layered up with appropriate gear, your just fine. But down south on the coast (and i can only assume the uk) its a wet cold, so even in like 0 to -3, it feel like it chills you to the bone
Not a hobby nightmare but a hobby W, but i sent a girl a warhammer 40k meme and now she took interest in the hobby and is now reading and listening to the audiobooks. Now she sends me 40k memes back and tells me all about the audiobooks.
Thankfully they just changed overwatch no longer include "at the end of a charge" because it was literally impossible to do 99% of the time
It was possible with pistols.
Congrats to Sarah for finally snagging her dream man.

In Minnesota it is currently -5 F. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the wind.
From MN as well! Gotta say priming my mini's outside rn is a battle lol

45:31 "what are you guys like 5?" Im fucking crying north.😂 I was thinking something similar but it really is a sweet moment.
A lot of people out their deserve a little understanding and grace in life. "Grace??!! She died 30 years ago!!" ("National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" movie scene. A festive holiday reference to the pre-dinner the table grace scene.)
Funny that there was literally an update today that would have fixed this overwatch situation
23:09 as much as I agree that 40k has it's problems with rules the Overwatch stratagem isn't obtuse at all, it's really clear:

Glad it finally worked out Sarah awesome to hear!😎

I live in northern Canada and it gets -50 Celsius here some winters lol
The Hellblasters would be able to shoot Overwatch with Bolt Pistols in engagement range, not their Plasma Rifles.
It wasnt 05:33 for Sarah, it was 05:33 your time when she sent it. We've been through this. North. Pay attention!
48:38 BRAVO, BRAVO!
I encourage everyone to follow this young lady’s example.
Good on Sarah and John , here's hoping they go far together. As for nightmare, people like Jim is the reason that I've completely walked away from tournaments. I say that as someone who has played a Jim and has been the Jim.
You could Overwatch charging vehicles and monsters at the end of the charge that's why it was there.
I swear I've heard this HN before...
Whoever is that group from minnesota please feel free to reach out to me! Im from MN too and would love to find more groups!
I remember boiling water and launching it outside for a science experiment...3 Degrees Fahrenheit and it turned into vapor🎉😂!
The kiss is cute. My wife does things like that to me. Dont tell her, but it's the best😊
Sarah’s story reminds me of how me and my partner started dating. She isn’t in the hobby like me, but she asked me out. Took the stress out, for sure.
Hell yes, good on you Sarah!
Well, before changing it, you really could shoot Overwatch at the end of a charge. If your unit got pistols or is a Vehicle eligible for Big Guns Never Tire, that is.
Sarah sounds clued on! Glad she got the fella in the end!
I'm happy for this girl
Nah, Jim was angleshooting by misinterpreting rules in his favor. Pretty sure he meant both he and James could reroll against each other’s Oath targets, which would be prevented under the rules pack. eeeeeeeeee The second story is the cutest thing I have ever heard here :D
Haven't we heard the first story? Or am I loosing my mind?
I don't believe we have heard this one, but there have been a couple of similar ones of playing in super cold weather, leading to various horror stories.
I could swear I heard this one but could be somewhere else.
36:00 [Edit] got my answer...

I can understand the decision, but I think I would feel too much personal responsibility to a child I helped create to just walk away.
It absolutely is not the rules' fault, with regards to the Overwatch story. It is very clear that Jim is wrong. The only way to prevent rules lawyering at that level are rules at the chess-level of simplicity
2:55 Fahrenheit IS English.
I want to hear Jim’s side of the story.
Pretty the sure the metric system was of French origin.
They didn't originate it, but they refined it into a proper system and were the first to adopt it. There's records from a few years before the first french mention in the writings of an English guy. Can't remember his name, but he was connected to Oliver Cromwell somehow.
Technically, the hellblasters could've shot after the charge because they had pistols.
Pistols don't let you do overwatch. Specially says shoot in shooting phase in combat
@Ng-zg4dq the strat says you have to be eligible to shoot in your shooting phase. Pistols let's you shoot in engagement range. you can only shoot the Pistols. Stuff like big guns doesn't let you because it's an ability.
@mastermide77 no. Pistols allow you to shoot in engagement in shooting phase only. Look it up. Common mistake
Biologis can’t lead hellblasters? 🤔 can it?
North, have you tried playing Necromunda? I recently discovered it after thinking of getting back into 40k having left in 5th-6th edition and not liking the rules of 10th.

Overwatch is the worst thing in 40k.
