      Its BEYOND excellent, its a classic. They are easy enough to 'share' online, I love the later ones where they cut and pasted old shows together. You can literally see spidey karate chop a guy and two seconds later its a different character at his feet. It was beyond crazy. There was the other famous one where spidey was fighting the same bad guy that had just appeared on "Rocket Robin Hood", another canadian classic, and they simply switched the main character with the background. It was that crazy one with the weird alien and 'Igor' who played the organ and had all those mechanical beetles. Now THAT is how marvel needs to make movies.

      Here in Brazil the cartoon was dubbed but the theme song was not adapted (it was common tho create new lyrics). I remember that boys in school (not just mine school) sang some lyrics in Portuguese for it in parody style (that I am translating back): "Spider-Man, Spider-Man, never punches, only get punched, it is Spider-Man.". (Homem aranha homem aranha nunca bate só apanha). I don't know the origin if this version to this day but this is a popular joke to this day in Brazil. I think it has to do with Spider-man being a down to Earth hero, with fears, doubts and everyday problems, unlike Thor, Captain America and Iron Man.

    The Grantray-Lawrence season was iconic. Bakshi's season was trash. Even as a kid, watching the reruns, I could see and feel the stark contrast. You also left out one of the key ingredients of Paul Soles' voice acting approach. He used two different voices - a deeper, confident voice for costumed Parker and a higher, sort of insecure voice for civilian Parker. (It struck me as an adult that Soles' costumed voice sounded amazingly like William Shatner - his fellow Canadian actor.) For a kid's cartoon - which SM67 was - it was a fantastically entertaining creative touch.

      Hey now, I'm quite fond of the Ralph Bakshi season. They were freaky and creepy!! I was in the 3rd or 4th grade when Channel 5 NYC began to re-syndicate them in the late 70s. Paul Soles voice acting. Exactly. Nails Spidey all the way back to the comic. Don't agree with Bakshi altogether, tho. His villains replacing Marvel's I agree with, but he tried to do a little more with Parker than the Grantray stuff. In any case, ultimately, it's just Soles and the dynamite music score that makes the show endure. Let's not get into the plots or the animation!

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@robvangessel3766 The animation was actually pretty decent. Hell, go watch the Warner animations of DC heroes like the Justice League dark or ANY of them and their animation is stiff as hell. And NOW animation is butthead easy to do compared to the sixties.
      I like the ones where spidey lands on a ledge and does a little dance because there was an old show where he lands on hot coals. And the plots are pretty decent, particularly now that marvel hasn't made a decent plot in four movies. This was done on the mega cheap and yet still holds up in viewing. I've watched other spiderman animations and they are just boring.

    Some of the later episodes got freaky deaky - demons, mad scientists, witchcraft & strange alien worlds! Quite the diverse package, in my opinion.

    The '67 Spider-Man was the first DVD set I ever bought. I remember when just one episode on VHS tape cost $90. Yikes. So getting the entire series for just $25 on DVD was fantastic.

    Spider-man was always my favorite super hero. Bought the comics as a kid and loved the tv show back in the day. This was back when a dollar bought you 2 comic books and two candy bars. Dang.
    Can he swing from a thread?
    Take a look over there.

    I suspect most children (who did watch Rocket Robin Hood earlier) were smart enough to notice the whole episode ripoff in the Spider-Man show. I surely did.
