    I use Easichick. My budgies love foraging and playing with it (I add some dry flowers and some seeds there which is great when I have to leave them by themselves) I changed to Easichick few months back (you inspired me!) and I would never go back to bars/paper

    Thank you for such a fabulous video! I'm just about to return to the joys of keeping birds after way too many years and have found a really caring breeder who handles her babies (budgies, cockatiels, conures & kakarikis) from an early age so they are silly tame when they go to their new homes, I've got a HUGE cage ready and over-indulged on some fantastic enrichment toys. I've always liked to give my animals as much mental stimulation as possible so this video really opened my eyes! I'll be checking out Easichick later today...I knew it had rave reviews for chickens but didnt realise you could use it for smaller birds too!

I’d love to use easichick, but I can’t seem to find any way to get it in the USA. Would you be able to recommend something similar? I honestly can’t find anything like it that’s also bacteria resistant. Thanks for any advice you can give! 😊

    Hello again. There is no way I can clean twice a day during the week. I get up at 4:30 and leave for work by 6:00. I can clean in the evenings of course. That being the case, could I still use substrate or should I stick with the bars in the bottom of the cage so she's separated from the droppings? If I can use it, is the CareFresh okay to use in the cage?

    • @BirdNerdSophie
      @BirdNerdSophie  ปีที่แล้ว

      When I mention cleaning twice a day, I mean a spot clean, which is removing any poop or old food by hand - it takes me one minute per cage 😊 the. The full proper clean is once a week!

    Good video! I would like to know what kind of substrate you use in your bird stand and for your foraging box (the colourful stuff)? I could use it in my foraging box, it looks a little bit heavier so it won't spread throughout the whole room when the birds fly up.

    • @BirdNerdSophie
      @BirdNerdSophie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The colourful stuff is called Carefresh! It’s quite expensive for how much you get but it works for the stand and tray 😊

    • @tomferrier6143
      @tomferrier6143 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is carefresh safe enough? I'm looking to use it more for a foraging box, and I'm worried about potential compaction. I don't think my parrots would eat it but they've never had it before. Currently their foraging box is filled with chunks of various murdered sola balls lol.

  • @amandaWL
    @amandaWL ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Sophie, my avian vet said to avoid substrate, even pine bedding that is dust free because their droppings and stuff in it can be harmful for them in the air. Frustrating because I see so many using it. What are your thoughts and is there something I need to share with my vet about it or is she correct?

    • @BirdNerdSophie
      @BirdNerdSophie  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s perfectly safe to use! 😊 parrots wouldn’t be on bars/ paper in the wild, nor are they in zoos and wildlife parks!
      People worry about not being able to check on bird poops but if your bird is out a lot as if should be then you will see their poops when they are out! If a bird is sick, they won’t just do one abnormal poo!
