Cath: "The monster is blind, but it listens for you" Ryan: "So do I not look at it? Is it seeing me through it's eyes?" It's the Outer Wilds anglerfish all over again lol
Technological singularity is the point where we build an AI powerful enough to upgrade itself or build even more powerful AIs without us. The AIs can just continually upgrade or build more advanced models without human input. Thus the inevitable "collapse" towards the point where the most intelligent AI possible has been built in a fairly short amount of time.
It works just like on the enterprise. The whole original crew died in episode one by teleporting and people getting rematerialized are new copies, thinking they had a past 😁😳 But srsly...why would even scientists at Pathos believe that killing yourself causes "your soul" or consciousness to leave your body, go on a search for your digital copy and possess the SSD drive. I'm an atheist but at least heaven woudn't need a USB4.0 port.
That's not what they think at all. The argument is that by killing yourself immediately after getting scanned the abstract "you" continues to exist as one continuous entity because "you" is a singular uninterrupted stream of consciousness. If you don't kill yourself then you and your copy quickly start to become separate beings by that definition. The idea is that for a moment both you and your copy are experiencing the same exact thing, the same sensations, etc. I personally still wouldn't kill myself because I rather continue to exist as a separate being from my copy.
@@spyfire242 Sure. That is what they believe and argumented. I was describing what it would mean in the real, non esoteric world. Unless you believe in ghosts, the consciousness needs a host. And given they wanted to be transported on the Ark, the "soul" would somehow need to connect to that copy. And only that specific copy. What would consciousness do with multiple copies? There is no way for continuation of anything. Only from the outside perspective and for the new copy who has the data to feel like he has a past. Robin Bass has ended and it doesn't make a difference if there is a new copy, multiple copies or when the original Robin has ended. What would make you think, that sharing the same experience or sensations somehow transfers consciousness?
Yea it's real silly. The scans are a copy/paste, it creates two separate consciousnesses. There is no possible way for the human you to swap to a scan. Killing yourself just kills yourself, with no effect on the distinct entity which is the scanned version of you
@@spyfire242 Have you played the game? Of course they do 😂 THEY wanted to get on the ark. Why would someone even kill themselve if it wasn't for the false promise of a continued existence? They are dead either way and it wouldn't make a difference to their copies. The reason this religious/cultish fraction exists in the game is to give weight to the ark. Nobody would care or fund the project if just a copy of them exists in the future. *Spoiler*... Cathrine has always kept the reality ambiguous. 22:40 first of all, Simon didn't know it was for that, and neither did Munshi at this time second of all, yes, you would have rights to that but Simon is dead either way so whatever : p and then there's also the fact that simon agreed to using it however they want And third of all... there's no such thing as soul everything you are is physical and i don't only mean the game this is well established science and no soul splitting you just make a scan and put it in how much robots you want everyone of them will fill like it's a continuation of what happend during the scan cause that's how files work, you can see that when cathrine is plugged and unplugged many times she doens't feel like any time has passed

"It's blind" - Catherine

Never change ryan
Ryan… you’re the human picking stuff up and then just dropping it on the floor…
Are you a robot?

You did so well sneaking around!
Something something anglerfish
Hello beautiful ryan and welcome back to your comment section :D
I'm ready for 1 1/2 hours of minddestroying thoughs.
The pacing in this game is excellent for when it has new pieces of the story available to find.
As always, loving the SOMA episodes!
Your experience through the story is exciting, and I'm looking forward to the next one too!!
43:15 "concussed" is an interesting condition for your character to have

45:34 i'm not surprised at all
he just got proof that he's a "clone"
the recordings? xd

and then there's also the fact that simon agreed to using it however they want
And third of all... there's no such thing as soul
everything you are is physical and i don't only mean the game
this is well established science
and no soul splitting
you just make a scan and put it in how much robots you want
everyone of them will fill like it's a continuation of what happend during the scan
