Stan was joined by former Republic of Ireland international turned pundit Andy Townsend to discuss his career and discusses his Irish heritage with brutal honesty.

Andy Townsend-As much as you used to play for Chelsea (Rival club) I have to admit Townsend's analysis and punditry is one of the best in the football business
I miss Tyldesley and Townsend on Champs league commentary. Really hope ITV win some of the rights back.

Love these. Love the guests who turn out to be truly interesting and decent people. Slight criticism is the audio sync ( better than the Austin interview) .10 seconds of silence for ambient noise, then a big clap to give the video guys a cue for editing will sort that. Don’t mean to be “that guy”, but it’s something I can’t help but notice. Love everything on this channel, so it’s probably just me being a pedant.

I went to the World Cup in 1994 and on the plane in the seat in front of me were two Aston Villa fans following the Irish Aston Villa players. That's what I call supporters.
Very sorry to hear that u had to take abuse Andy when some Irish fan says ur not really Irish. I was so proud to have u playing for the boys in green. U were one of my favourite Irish players along with Razor, Stan and big Paul McGrath bcos u gave me so many great memories during the 1990's being a Villa fan Andy. U were a special player for the Villa and u will never be forgotten around Villa Park.
As for ur contribution to the Irish team Andy pal? I lived in South London during the early 90's and it was something special for me personally. I travelled up and down the country to support the Villa and got so many fine memories from that time that I will never forget also.
Love Stan C as well BTW. Hope life is treating u all very well now and plz remember u have a place in our hearts here in Ireland for all time

Good vid stan but what about john barnes Hargreaves sterling etc who were not born in England you made a massive deal about a few irish players not born in ireland ! My parents are irish I'm proud of ireland it's my blood if a dog is born in a stable don't make him a horse .grew up in the 80s seen the shit my dad went through because he was irish that is all I new God bless Jack

Top man Andy Townsend. A true Irishman. Always felt like he was one of us. Gave everything for the cause. His parents would have been dead proud. We will never forget the giants stadium in 1994. Our greatest sporting moment. Well done Stan Collymore. U asked every relevant question

Fantastic interview Andy fantastic guy u can tell it meant alot to him playing for Ireland he wore that green jersey with pride . Love from Ireland Andy . Respect . Just because a player representing Ireland with an English accent doesn't mean they not Irish etc .

Mark Stokes not what I said at all. America is a country of migrants and so most Americans have very diverse ancestry. However they cling to 4% Irish dna. Brits tend to have a much stronger call, for example I was raised in England but I’m 100% Irish heritage

This is excellent stuff. Top bloke is Andy. And good work, Stan, for just sitting back and LISTENING - something which many interviewers don't do these days.
When you listen to conversations like this about nationhood and identity, it emphasises the significance of society on our thinking. We draw lines on a map and say you're here and you're there but our diverse geneology means ppl like Townsend, and actually everyone around the world, has affiliation to any number of countries

Great insight into the feelings surrounding a pen shootout. Not sure if this gets read but would like to have heard about his earlier club career. How he made it into the first team. Wrighty spoke about that but every footballer's journey is fascinating including Stan's so more of that please

Good interview but they both got it wrong saying cowans played in 95. He played in the fixture at Lansdowne in 90 when he was chosen by Taylor in favour of Gascoigne. Get it right boys!!!😁

As an Irish fan of a certain 'vintage' from Dublin I just wanted to say that I loved our 'new Irish' joining the ranks. We had a great time back then, hopefully those days will return ...

@@Detroiy2k I don't. I can't listen to the podcast either with the constant buzzing. Usually the interviews are ok but this one has buzzing which makes it difficult to concentrate on the interview. I'm sure with all the tech and money Stan has available to him, it wouldn't be to difficult to fix. If you've got nothing positive to say, don't reply.
