A viewer has told me that Bergenia Crassifolia is the same as Bergenia Cordifolia, so that explains why I couldn't tell the difference :) She also sent me a link to an article about the tea made from the leaves: aromachaitea.com/blogs/news/mongolian-tea-bergenia-crassifolia-the-wonder-tea-everyone-should-try?fbclid=IwAR2cFy2m7ciEQBhALYJrMyH6w65Otqr_5LFKCb9uqKTGFzQ67G9Q9bmPbB4_aem_AR8cyr-DJcHm4wIVmXIazZXgJu0Ti1tzlvDr3SMU_IvnCS0FiP2YKVR3ShUVfAUrfmQNkrtVNoF03YSz_CxC46gO

Can't help with the bergenias. I found an article about making tea from the black leaves and I think I shared that on FB so I might find that again. And the German wikipedia just said, that the bergenias easily hybradize so they must be very closely related.
I love the scilla bifolia and chionodoxa and I think, the pushkinias belong to the tribe, too? I'd like to plant them in the lawn to naturalize. Just today I devides my snowdrops and planted them into the row of comfreys, haha. Same thought: the snow drops can grow, flower, feed the insects and multiply before the comfrey starts emerging. And who doesn't need more snow drops in the garden. I'd love them to spread into the lawn area from there.
Now. Where to get a time machine to visit spring next year to see how that worked out 🙃😂

oh. Maybe plant some pink hyazinths into the part of the bergenia bed, that gets eaten by the deer. I don't think deer eat those so they (the hyazinths) could do a bergenia "stand-in" and the deer can enjoy the bergenias 😋

You are absolutely right - there is no way one could have too many snowdrops or scillas or, or, or :) I have just talked to my husband about establishing a blanket area of crocuses. And I just found this lovely scilla that I don't have - yet - Scilla mischtschenkoana and another favorite is the Scilla Litardierie Amethystina, it has such a lovely smell. I have it in the garden, but I am trying to spread to all corners of course.

      @@inspiratoriet96 YES to the crocuses.
I'll avoid checking out the different scillas! It would only lead to more "must have plants" :D
BTW: I found an edible muscari. Forgot the name immidiatly, though. Thank god! :D :D :D

I’ve never heard of Bergenia flowers. They are beautiful. I will look for them here in the USA.

I’m happy to say that they are available from online nurseries here. I ordered 3 plants from Gurneys. I can’t wait to get them! I definitely want to try the tea as well. Thank you!

I love bergenia and grow some that have white flowers, no idea what kind they are though! I’ve read years ago about the tea and it explained why my mum used to call her bergenia “Siberian tea plant” - not sure if she knew it was actually used to make tea! I should ask her. As I don’t know if mine are the “edible” kind or not, I have not tried them. Glad to hear the tea tastes nice - I must have a go!

@@inspiratoriet96 they are very pretty - white flowers have pinkish centres. Mine came from a cutting I took in a church yard in London - so I don’t know the variety unfortunately!
I would be happy to share cuttings with you - but I’m not sure if it would be allowed to go through post?

@@theallotmentkitchengarden3694 OMG I just googled for photos of white bergenias - they are so pretty. I found a Bressingham White and Silberlicht :)
