I could see a dao using a zaratan to cause chaos so it could go on slaving raids in the material plane.
Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Spirit...embodiment of this? Life, Death & transcendence hence reincarnation & resurrection in all it's science.
I often play as a rogue for this reason. My personal favorite being a Rogue/Monk/Bard combination.
(Peasant Monk, Shadow Dancer Rogue/Thief, Jester Bard or even lore intensive simply..)

Evening milords! I'm a little late today due to being asleep all day, but I'm here now! These elder elementals sound like ghastly things. Few things can stand to that kind of destructive force. It's quite fitting however that elemental creatures would basically be an allegory to natural disasters. I suppose there isn't much else to say on such simplistic creatures is there? Till next week lords of knowledge and laughter!

The part about the giant turtles mating was freaking hilarious, just, just good job Brian. There's a reason your the lord of laughter. Although while that year long mating session is probably them getting to know each other, I like to think they are just absolute s@$ gods with ungodly stamina, lmao.
As for the phoenix, kinda wish they hadn't relegated it to being an elder elemental. It was a noble creature and now it's just pure destruction. Also I'd probably homebrew old phoenixs to truly be reborn and to not create a new phoenix on death. It kind of has to be that way, or the rebirth part makes no sense.

Another amazing episode! Well you asked for the opinion of someone in the architecture field, where here I am (about 30 years of experience building healthcare facilities, educational facilities, and commercial building). For ship and structure similarities, I think of barrel roofed buildings, especially near the ocean in the Middle Ages. Many historical documentaries explained how ship builders would also build structures due to the similar material use and construction. Think of a barrel roof as an upside down ship;) For the damage impact, jump a few years ahead and think about the videos showing the impact that atomic bombs shock wave had on structures. Framed structures were leveled whereas masonry structures stood more of a chance. Now to tie these two components together, I’m sure there’s an older edition reference book which has hit points associated with materials. Boats are meant to move and take waves. A house isn’t. I’d say if tossing a couple torches in can raze a house that attack would definitely collapse it. Houses are banking on no one wanting to attack them lol
Man I'm sad on how they changed the Phoenix lore from a peaceful creature to a mindless brut. Oh well what are you going to do. Oh and excellent video guys keep it up! 👍

Especially with cases like the Phoenix, both the before 5e and 5e variants can exist canonically together. Just like the fey unicorn and thay unicorn are different from the celestial charger and dusk unicorns.
I'd say a house sized building is usually about 100 hp or less if not well built.
These elementals seem pissed because they got ripped from their elemental plane.
Look up concrete boats ... rocks can float. :)
Personally, if I were to make the 5e Pheonix more deadly, I'd increase its intelligence and make it able to change the composition of its flames. Imagine fighting an invisible or poisonous Phoenix or with any other crazy effects fire can have, Especially one smart enough to use proper tactics.
I have my Phoenix's have a whole lot of radiant and healing spells, but also that their fire negates resistance and makes immunity in to resistance
It seems like DnD blended the Western phoenix with some elements of the Chinese fenghuang in the lore with them being revered creatures of good.
Guys love the channel but the O in Oedipus is silent. Also nothing about deseriat the twighlight phoenix from the explorers guide to wildmount?
About the Zaratan structure damage. Just gave my players in one of my tables Daern's Instant Fortress and get this, the fortress has 100 hit points for each of it's walls, it's ceiling and it's door. Although it is resistant to all kinds of damage (wich means the Zaratan just deals 50 damage to it) it can only be restored with a wish spell that you have to choose where in the fortress is it spent and only restores 50 hit points to that specific part. Wich means that, even though the fortress is not that big, the Zaratan can destroy a magical item in just two of those moves. Ain't that some strong shit?

campaign idea about a wizard summoning all 4 lder elementals, tricking the PCs into killing them and stealing the elemental core of each to create Gamera
Oh yeah. I forgot 5e ruined my favorite creature. Good thing I made my own Phoenix Guild with a more powerful, sentient, not stupid angry monster version of a Phoenix.

It's so weird hearing from people who actually liked 4E...all I ever knew was 4E is garbage, forget it, pick 3.5 or 5 from the groups I played with.
It has its issues, but there are a ton awesome ideas and deep lore that 4E offers.
