Hello, I'm feeling really dumb, but after watching the vídeo twice, I couldn't understand why you did a grey gradient first... After making the grey gradient you change the colour of the Highlights and Shadow, so in my understanding, you are changing the colours of the gradient... What is the difference between making a grey gradient before or using the black to white (usually the default) and changing the colours of the highlights and shadows??? I used the same colours as you did, with the same codes starting from a grey gradient map and then from a black to white and the result was the same.. I know there's something I'm missing... Could you help me? Anyway, love your vídeos!
you dont have to do it, its just to illustrate how the gradient map affects the source image. its not meant to change the end result, it was to help you when trying to experiment with the colours you actually want to use
My understanding is that by using 50% gray (which is completely transparent in overlay mode) on one end of the gradient bar, you're able to work with one color as opposed to two. Think of it as a fancy way of masking colors within the Gradient Map adjustment layer. Trust me, I had to rewatch that part a couple of times too.
