This song is genuinely one of the gems of the 90s and it was written by Hope herself, who pretty much had stopped going to school at age 13 and just stayed at home listening to records until she started a band with her best friend. They even played a couple gigs with Sonic Youth before she joined Opal (ended up being renamed Mazzy Star). It all started because her friend gave a demo tape of their band to David Roback (lead guitar), and Opal's lead singer randomly left the band while they were touring with The Jesus and Mary Chain... i’m a simple man. when youtube recommends me a random performance from 20 years ago, i watch it. not disappointed once again
When she's shaking Conan's hand she looks at him like he just arrived from another planet. It seems like she's still in the song and he might as well have materialized right next to her.
Brax1982 I noticed that too.
He's also like 2 entire feet taller than her.
Back then she was not a peoples person, very shy and uncomfortable with the fame that came with being a famous artist. She probably felt Conan was invading her personal space.
She definitely comes across as shy and socially awkward...but she was just possibly really overwhelmed and caught up in the moment. At least back in this era...I mean this was like their first time on national television.
@@googleislame Well... Hope Sandoval is 1.52 m and Conan 1.93 :O
Wow I'm amazed at how long Conan has been in show business, he has legit met every celebrity.
Perfection of a song by goddess, makes me think of all the treasures in the 90s, what a memorable decade.
great song and performance... to play it so relaxed and laid back with out "rushing it" and speeding up during the excitement of live national TV show is fantastic composure
When I was little my mom would always play this song and sing 💗
The woman many of us wish we could have. Sweet, gentle, kind, and humble.
She seems like she would be vicious when she is tired of you.
@@MmentoMori Lol. This is part of her persona.
@@MmentoMori I love me some vicious woman like her😉
I had some incredible moments that are etched into my memory while listening to this song in the mid 90's. It's hard to think of another song where the singer so closely matches the beauty and almost dreamy innocence of the song. Absolute perfection...
She is soo high on black
Timeless piece of work...
RIP David Roback. The guitar playing is amazing, it really suits the name of the song. It is so dreamy and mesmerizing, I love it thanks for this wonderful song ❤️
I'm glad people still recognize David and his genius. Every always assumes Mazzy Star is the lead singer as a solo act.
I started listening to a Mazzy Star song, "Into Dust" a lot in recent months, only recently listened to another song by her, and I just presumed that she was relatively current music, and a few days ago, I saw a live performance from 1994. I was shocked! How did I not hear this in this 90s? Fair enough, I'm in Ireland but even so, I should have heard this.Love it. Words can't do it justice.
Mazzy Star was actually the band name. The lead singer was Hope Sandoval.
Lana def got some inspo from her
jesse venegas i
lana fan mak poi on int to sa tha her derp
very ultraviolence
jesse venegas "inspo" lmao.
jesse venegas LOL yeah she got it from everywhere except herself
Hope Sandoval has 1 of those instantly recognizable voices. Had no idea Conan was lucky enough to have her. Dave did an awesome job. RIP Dave.
Conan had the best bands on his show
timeless. perfection.
I missed this in 94, but caught it it in 2012 and made for a great anthem to that year.
12 year old me had a huge crush on Hope. This is such a great song. Easily one of the best of the 90's.
She's so perfect!
This is amazingly timeless...
The first girl I ever loved was inthatuated with mazzy star / opal. This was about 2001 fall at the University of Montana in Missoula. She was perfect. It left a mark.
Rest in peace, Dave Roback. I enjoyed so many of your musical projects and you really made a wave with your art. Wish you were still here
i’m literally crying over this song
She is so mysterious and beautiful :) (but yes, I'm here for the music).
was beautiful...
