How odd I have never had cucumbers stop producing. My suggestion is to spray the plants with milk solution. or even better a milk yoghurt mix. Then feed feed feed and perhaps cut back some of the trailing stems so they produce more stems near the roots.

Hi Andrew, just love your video's and seeing the farm and harvest, I'm 62 and spent my teenage years working on a vegetable farm much like your families. It's very interesting to see how certain things have changed over the years but some have remained the same. I live in Niagara On Canada which is now mostly wine country with little to no vegetable growing and the farmer markets are a thing of the past. I remember harvesting Strawberries, then cherries, then peaches and tomatoes, Bell peppers and Sweet Corn. Lots of Sweet Corn, this was the 70's and early 80's when bi-colored or peaches & cream didn't exsist, we grew Sennca Chief and golden jubilee which was my favorite at the time, Jubilee was a big ear but small kernal which made it very tender, it would melt in your mouth fresh picked. In the fall we cut lots of cabbage but our problem was always size everything was in crates 12's 16's nobody took bins back in the day so large heads were a problem. I also remember tying the Caullie flower with elastic bands, one day you would go out and hardly find any, 2 days later your banding every other one. I love pickling cucumbers! They're great in a salad or as a snack, especially if only one or two people in the household like cucumbers. My Arkansas granny grew them at her Michigan house, all along a fence line in her back yard. It was fascinating to watch the plants grow and climb. Then seeing the tiny cucumbers form and get big enough to pick. They were delicious!

Andrew I showed my husband your "tripod" stance when it comes to bending over and picking, he was pulling weeds, but found that very helpful and doesn't hurt his back. Thank you!! 😁

Most people pick up things incorrectly using their backs. That part should be straight with the legs and buttocks doing the work. Most people sit and stand incorrectly which eventually leads to aches and pains. The body needs to be in correct alignment with the weight born entirely by bones. Before picking up bad habits from older people, very young children are great to learn the proper and natural way the body should move.
We love our motorized gardening stools. They are awesome.

Mathew maybe explain that if you pick sweet corn and it sits for a few days the sugars turn to starch and then it doesn't taste good. Now if you could explain how they pick it and transport it all the way up here into Canada in the winter and it doesn't do this you would sure rest my curiosity.?😅❤

Its hotter than stink down here in Florida but the melons and cucumbers are doing just fine. Peppers and eggplants are working and soon its time to plant fall tomatoes. Finally we get some rain and that makes the plants happy. Keep on growing!

Q: Do you guys keep the same prices on everything year-round... or do you guys adjust price based on price per case from wholesaler or home grown?
So for example, if one week the price for a bushel of zucchini from the wholesaler is x number of dollars, but the following week it's twenty dollars more, do you raise the price of zucchini to make up for the higher cost per bushel?

Your plants look amazing as always. Everyone has its own ways to do things, personally i prefer using plastic boxes for harvesting vegetables, so differently from buckets i can pile them up, savings time and space, but anyway, that is just my way to do it.
I see your point; on the other hand those baskets fit nicely into one another and (usually) you have to stack boxes, so the baskets save you a lot of room in storage.
@@kayerin5749 yeah! Probably that is why they prefer buckets. Empty plastic boxes ocupy 2/3 of the volume of full ones, but so far I like them because i pile 3 or 4 layers of them on the tractor
That is a lot of cabbage and a ton or two or cucumbers! My goodness so much to harvest. Is anyone in the family canning any of this lovely produce for personal use? I mean all that food you grow, I would like to think some of it stays with you guys all year. (not sure if my wording is correct, but i think you get my point). You started off the growing season in drought, you are barely through the first quarter and look at those bumper crops! Well done Ochs Family, Well done!
Cucumbers and Zucchini are some of the Fastest Growing Vegetables of ALL Time. Pickling Cucumbers make the BEST Pickles and they’re EASY to Can them. 👍

Funny, I just ate my first cucumber this year. Extremely wet this year north of Boston. Finally got a little sun. I am expecting a huge growth spurt.

One of the issues with cucumbers are if you miss picking all of them, but if some fruit is able to grow to full maturity this will trigger the plant to shut down.
Grinding Horseradish or cutting onions: Hold a half of a hotdog bun in your mouth while cutting and the bun will absorb the fumes...

"why not pick all the corn at once?" Has never had actual fresh corn! Buy from a farmer, not the grocery store, and find out just how terrible big box produce is!! Fresh picked is a must! We used to pick the night before market, by the headlights on the van. It'd go in the cooler for the night, get loaded at 6am, market by 7am, sold out by noon.
My wife would kill me if I showed up at the table without taking a shower and putting on clean clothes first ! 😂 Not that I would... 😁

As a consumer, I concur on your procedure to pick corn daily. It loses that “fresh picked” quality quickly, like overnight, which means it loses half its value. No one wants to buy wilted, browning corn. I will pay premium price for a superior product, such as fresh picked, no bugs, large eared, small kerneled corn. I went to a local farm stand yesterday. I paid over $2 each for medium sized but perfect tomatoes. I bought a “candy” onion that cost as much as a bag of onions in the supermarket. We had thick slices of onion and tomatoes (and lettuce, commercial) on hamburgers. I even toasted the buns. But these fresh, field to table vegetables that we get seasonally are unsurpassed in quality. Peaches just started in Michigan. They are a bit hard, but in a paper bag they ripen quickly. They were 6 small to medium sized peaches for $4. I was pleased with that price. I visited a friend today whose cucumber plant is producing enough for a family. I ate one, and it was the best I’ve had in years. My own plant should be producing soon. My own tomatoes should be also. Love the video.
