North Carolina Micro Creek First Descent

Starting at the highest peak in NC this gem wasn't explored by kayak until Mcavoy, and I went in and ran nearly every runnable drop on the creek. It took 7 hours car to car including summiting a mountain and paddling 5 miles of unknown class 5 then a few miles of class 2.

Just guessing, but when I did a search for a Creek I used to fish when at Brevard College in the 70's...it came up. Sure is fun watching Micheal's micro creek videos! It probably helps to have a friend who fishes fro brook trout, lol. Google Earth isn't very good for levels of detail.

Holy fucking shit. How is this a first descent in 2018 ? Elevation loss on this run? Is this something you’ve had your eye on for awhile, waiting for water level/opportunity, or did you find it just recently ? You guys are pushing the limits on these insanely steep creeks this season, that’s for sure. This contact sport is not for just any boater. The three or four of you who are up to this kind of shit have a new classic here ?

Guys. This is a way cool creek. I’m surrounded by shallow creeks like this and I ride them after rain storms every chance I get. My boat is old and not too bad but I am a little too big for it and I want to upgrade. What boat do you recommend for Micro creeking? I’m 6’1” 220.

Sick work, dude! What would you say about that last drop, 30' slide into a 50' fall? and it looked boney as shit. You didn't get hurt from the impact, at all?

John E Hopper the drop is between 50” and 60”. For a first descent you want lower flow. No I didn’t get hurt at all.
