This video is from the first TV broadcast of a YMO performance in Japan.
Each member had previously been an acclaimed musician or was well known in another band, but had never appeared on television as YMO.
The year before this video aired (1979), YMO had successfully completed its first world tour (mainly in Europe and the United States), and 1980 was the year when the band's popularity in Japan exploded.
I still remember how excited I was to watch this live broadcast at the time.

I am of the real generation.
YMO was formed in 1969 with Haruomi Hosono's group "Happiendo" and has been the backing band for many works under the name Caramel Mama since 1973.
The song "Yellow Magic Carnival" is one of their songs.
From there the name Yellow Magic Orchestra was formed.
The musical sense of "Happiendo" was so far ahead of its time that it was not accepted by the general public, but only by a small core group of people. One of its members was a musician named Eiichi Otaki.
He released "A LONG VACATION" in his other musical career, and his breakthrough song in Japan in 1981 was "Kimi wa Tear-Yellow. This song is refreshing.
The song is a true story about how Eiichi Otaki felt when he had to take care of and carry his sick sister. That sister passed away at an early age. Eiichi Otaki also passed away in 2013. This is a very good album.
Haruomi Hosono formed Yellow Magic Orchestra in 1978 and was a member of drummer Yukihiro Takahashi's group, Sadistic Mika Band. Yukihiro Takahashi was in charge of costumes for YMO.
Ryuichi Sakamoto was considered a genius at the time at the Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Music, Biano Department.
He joined the band because he was a friend of Yukihiro Takahashi's. The album was released in London in December 1979 and became a hit when it was re-imported, changing the Japanese music scene.
The tempo of the song "Raiden" is
The tempo of the song "Raiden" was inspired by the sound of horses running in the battle scene of Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai.
YMO related series. Chris Mosdell, the poet who wrote the lyrics to all of the early YMO songs, released the album "EQUASIAN" in 1982.
    EQUASIAN" and others.
Other releases at this time include.
Mariah's experimental rock album formed with Yasuaki Shimizu in 1983. Mariah/Utakata no Hibi
A Japanese style album with a mysterious tempo.
The second solo album by Yasuaki Shimizu.
    Scarecrow.
An album that symbolizes the atmosphere of the times, incorporating techno and rock.
As an aside, I met and talked with Mr. Haruomi Hosono. Mr. Hosono's grandfather
I put him on the Titanic.
He was saved by holding onto a Louis Vuitton suitcase.

    Sorry!
YMO is a big staple of fusion music and techno music,
and it doesn't need to be introduced.
I thought it was extra care.
It can be said that it is this YMO
that established the genre of electronic music.
By the way, the sound effects of the game are after them.

Why don't you take mental notes while watching the video and discuss at the end? Pausing every 2 seconds is kind of annoying... Just sayin.
