I heard this song while working at Old Navy and I could not figure out what the song was for such a long time. I am so happy I finally found it. I love this song so much, it's absolutely beautiful.
it only hurts at the beginning, then its fun and those callouses are great! anyone can learn guitar if u have the practice patience, time and drive to play. I taught myself to play using guitar tabs, im not amazing but if I can learn on my own, ANYONE CAN!
I don't think people's main beef with the guitars is not that there aren't any on the new stuff...it's because it means the band won't play anything live off Native Speaker. I was looking forward to seeing the band again and hearing the new stuff alongside the likes of Lemonade, Plath Heart & Glass Deers, but it won't happen sadly.
"Speaking with Exclaim!, singer Raphaelle Standell-Preston confirms prior reports that the band are moving in a more electronic direction. "We've totally ditched the guitars," she says. "'In Kind,' on the record, is the only song that has guitars.""
Plus the people against some synthesised sounds seem to conveniently forget that guitar effects and even amps, microphones and recording equipment produces a synthesised tone anyway.
As someone who plays both piano and stringed instruments. I have to say that some of the most basic piano music requires as much coordination and precision as some of the most comples finger picking on guitar.
i don't think that most are really anti-synth. its just that there are a lot of really good electronic bands using synths today, and what braids was doing with guitars stood out more and was what drew many to the band originally. thats not to say amends wasn't kickass, but if progression means sounding more like a lot of other artists, then it feels less exciting. i'm glad they're mixing it up, but i wouldn't want them to abandon what was one of their strongest and most distinguishing elements.
anthony, you NEED to listen to elektro guzzi. one of the most promising from austria right now. they will blow your sucks off. you couldn't imagine what their guitarist does. do it. do it. come on, do it.
I'm not sure why you need to take that attitude. Of course bands can evolve their sound but such a complete change in use of instrumentation can be disastrous if the band doesn't have the skill to pull it off, and no offense to Braids at all, but after hearing Blue Hawaii's extremely mediocre album earlier this year, I'm fearful that the album will be overly distant and uninteresting. "Amends" already, while decent, is a step down from Native Speaker and relies on dull chopped vocals.
digging the synth groove and the vocals on this one. it's sweet.
I can't really describe how much I LOVE Raphaelle's voice.
wonderful.
braids.
I wish so much that your music can reach more people.
It works well.

Yeah I knew. Loved this one when they did it live previously and am glad the studio version is up to scratch.
We only get upset out of love. These guys have great guitar parts, and we love them.
I don't know about you guys, but this and AMENDS are just wonderful to me.
Yep! It was on their setlist when they toured behind Native Speaker.

So glad the recorded version of this song has guitars on it, really wish they hadn't ditched the guitars and everything off Native Speaker.
mmm, nice - vocals are great and instrumentation is crisp
Wow I'm hearing Bjork & Liz Frazier here. Great layers & build ups!!
Please put A dawn in me on TH-cam, I love that song and I can't find it anywhere!
Love it!
Is this the other song they played at the Polaris Awards a few years ago?
Brilliant!

is braids doing the ditty for the kia rondo tv commercial?
Plus the people against some synthesised sounds seem to conveniently forget that guitar effects and even amps, microphones and recording equipment produces a synthesised tone anyway.
love
oh anthony, you calm that riot.
wait, where did they confirm that this was the only track with guitar?
interesting point.

Sounds like Gang Gang Dance
i love you

Fuck, I love the she says 'quotation', also, this is beautiful.

do it. do it. come on, do it.
Holyyyyyyy.
i like when girl voices go super up
What's this song about?
Damn my wallet again....
it is just interesting to see/know what sounds are made of/with.
why whine about everything?
well w/in that argument one might as well say, 'anyone can fret a note' or something else meaningless.
Apparently this is the only song with guitars on it, such a shame. Great song though.
who the FUCK caares!
Why care what instruments are used to make music?
Well, I prefer both things... and real drums maybe.
Because anyone can push a button. It takes pain, patience and years to learn to play an actual stringed instrument.
Sounds like grimes at her very begining

This sucks
