The problem back then was that people were used to the low system requirements of XP so they didn't bother upgrading their hardware too much. When Vista came out people were like "woah", now you suddenly need 2GB ram to run decently. Once 7 came out, people had already upgraded their hardware.
@@SylveonMujigaeOfficial Not really. Vista would not run on a lot of laptops with older graphics chips due to to aero and glass. yet these same machines worked fine on 7 as lekmot above says Vista was not optimised. I had a Dell latitude that wouldn't even load vista due to GPU. yet would later run Windows 7 with only 2 gig ram and single core cpu. It ran well for several years.
If They Bought A Laptop From Around 2006 - 2007 it would Just Run Vista Home Basic Fine Like A Generic 2008 Laptop But Just At least Get 4GB or 2GB of Ram
@@etmezh9073 My old Dell couldn't run aero on Vista due to Vista not working with older GPU chipsets. I think this was Microsoft being Microsoft forcing people to upgrade hardware at the time. Yet Windows 7 ran fine for a few years before I bought a new laptop.
I was in that boat for a while... Until I got addicted with this goddamn cortana/spyware infested Windows 10 hunk of junk. Don't know why I like the metro UI so much... I just do.
that computer is crawling with viruses and background programs, the laptop im using right now had windows vista and it was 50x times more fast than that
Vista wasn't a bad OS, just too far ahead for the times. Two main issues were responsible for the initial disaster (by the time it got to SP2, everything was fine): 1. People upgraded machines that had no business running Vista. Even though MS recommended 1gb of RAM minimum, when Vista was released most computers had 512mb of RAM. And people upgraded them anyway, with disastrous results. If you can blame MS it's for not stressing enough that the minimum requirements were not just there for kicks. 2. Manufacturers were extremely slow in providing Vista-compatible drivers. Incompatible XP hardware and/or drivers were responsible for virtually all Vista BSOD's. By the time that was rectified, people were already marching on MS with pitchforks and torches... As if it was their fault! So, the upgraded computers (the vast majority of Vista installations after 3 months of release) were the real troublemakers. I remember buying one of the first Vista laptops on the market. It was a Dell with 2gb of RAM (at that time a super-luxury like a laptop with 32gb of RAM would be today...) and state-of-the-art components. It ran Vista beautifully, with no glitches and no BSOD's. Remember that Vista allowed professionals to get into the wonderful world of 64-bit computing (sure XP-64 existed, but wasn't really a viable OS, with virtually no software and no drivers) and past the 4gb RAM limit. It would take Apple 4-5 years to catch up to that.
The biggest problem was the OEMs had been cheating you on RAM for years, and were choking the CPUs even under XP. If you followed the memory and CPU development curve, 2 gigs of RAM should have been standard by then. Instead they stagnated because they could get away with it due to XP's relatively unchanging requirements. Microsoft developed Vista based on the projected specs, not factoring in computer manufacturers being cheap and ripping you off.
Yuck, Fraps. Fraps has been abandoned for years, and doesn't even work properly anymore. Get Bandicam or use Nvidia's ShadowPlay to make videos instead. Bandicam is hardware accelerated and won't lag down your computer. It also compresses on the fly.
Windows Vista is not that bad. It's just a bit behind win7 performance wise. The problem is that when it came out, the system was too heavy for the PC's of it's time compared to winXP. 80% of everyone I've knew that did the upgrade at the time end up rolling back to XP because of performance issues. Most PC's at the time would only have 512mb/1gb ram, with vista nearly hogging all of it. Now that any average pc you get on bestbuy has at least 4-8gb, decent processor etc, this is not a problem anymore (well, until the average person fills their pc with malware)
+Minetrap997 Microsoft doesn't care. They WANT people to switch to Windows 10. Which is why they offered Windows 10 for free for basically everyone using 7/8/8.1. If you didn't/don't grab it for free by June 2015 then your loss. They WILL end windows 7 support eventually.
Like many of the commenters here I'm going to say the same thing. Vista wasn't a bad operating system at all, it was the older hardware people were trying to run it on that was the issue. Despite the bare minimum requirements saying "an 800 MHz processor & 512MB of RAM", you really needed 2 GHz processor and 2GB of RAM to run it properly. Most computers that shipped with Vista in the early days would have ran ok, but the older hardware was the issue. Another problem was the media. Vista was buggy on day one, but what operating system isn't? So even after Service Pack 1 (which is when I believe everything was fixed), people still had the notion that Vista was the OS from the devil because of it's issues that it had at launch, thus giving it a bad reputation. Also driver compatibility was an issue too - at first. OEMs didn't have much time to create proper drivers for Vista, or were just too lazy and expected the XP drivers to work, which of course they didn't. Eventually that wasn't an issue once Vista was out for a while. All in all, if we didn't have Vista, we wouldn't have the foundation of Microsoft's products today. That includes Windows 7, Windows 8.x, Windows Phone 8.x, Windows 10 and even Xbox One.
Vista still had efficiency issue, but its okay to criticize... Its not like I'm going to throw away my good copy of Vista. Who is soo silly throwing away years of free software support?! Its better to let people criticize because in end they make the developer fix it. I bet the developer thanked the criticism because in end it help them make a perfect OS.
I know of a laptop that boldly advertises "Designed for Windows Vista" on its chassis, but it was more cut out for XP. 7 of course ran fine, however. It wasn't older hardware; it was Microsoft's overestimation of the OS's efficiency.
***** Okay but have you actually used both on a pentium 4? Because I have, and 7 was miles better on it. I'm not going to criticize vista because it's unfair using a pentium 4 as a basis but vista would always send the hard drive and cpu flying away whereas 7 never did that. Also, vista is the ONLY os I've had on that computer to bluescreen; in fact, it bluescreened 4 times in 2 sessions. This was SP2 too. Again though I won't call vista bad for it since I think the GPU is failing and the drivers were a bit out of date. I keep seeing you all over these videos and all you seem to do is mindlessly criticize 7 and worship vista. Grow the fuck up.
KnucklesARouge all Windows can get bluescreen (I got bluescreen in Win 7 too). But luckily it never fail to reboot (awesome!). In my experience older Window (like ME) have high chance to get corrupted after bluescreen.
Old video but thought I'd insert a personal experience. I used to know the poor fella who worked for Microsoft and had the job of giving the final OK to release Vista Home versions. The last time I saw him (about 6 months after Vista was released and just a few years before he died) we were attending a meeting. I was already in the room setting up my equipment for webcasting when he walked in. He looked at me and said right off "I don't want to talk about Vista." Vista was basically a good operating system, except it was not compatible with most previously developed software. As you commented, Windows 7 was basically Vista version 2, Microsoft changed the name because of the bad rap Vista got. The prime problem with Vista was Microsoft locked down the areas of the operating system which had been proven to be major security risks with earlier operating systems. Then when some older program tried to store or access one of those areas, Vista blocked access and the program would freeze or crash. Windows 7 solved that problem by using something that had been around for years called symbolic links. An over simplified description is when a program asks for access to a restricted area, the operating system redirects the request and puts it somewhere else which is more safe, and the program never knows the difference. That computer is obviously undersized for running Vista. A common problem with low end computers.
You main complaint about Vista SHOULD be that it is running on an old, broken, virus-infected laptop. I have none of these issues with the version of Vista I have installed on an older desktop - which is also a Core 2 Duo.
+vwestlife He doesnt need to. Vista runs fine, i worked with that for years and i know Xp and 7 very well. I just recently had a Vista Laptop here that ran absolutely slow, because it was used for several years by various users and wasnt cleaned or reinstalled once. One clean installation later it was running very nicely. Reinstall Vista on your machine and you wont have any slowness. This Video is pointless - sorry to say that.
+vwestlife actually he is right, I run windows 8.1 and 10 btw, But that computer has malware as viruses. If you didn't know, they slow computers down. Take some time and learn how to remove them buddy, ;)
+vwestlife I agree with your take on Vista, it's a beta version of Windows 7. Windows 7 is completely based on Vista except just optimized better. That isn't to say Windows 7 still ran like a pig on low end hardware, just ran a bit less like a pig. This is just from observation, but if you go into command prompt in Windows Vista, 7, and 8/8.1, the build numbers all start with 6. That tells me many of the inner workings of 7 and 8/8.1 are inherited from Vista.
The issue you've dealt with in this video, is almost what I'm experiencing with my win 7 ult with an overkill machine. Nothing changed, people just hated vista, for being vista.
+sheppardpat47 me 2 but just a little slow it's fine but playing minecraft it's very slow but it's not a that bad anyways windows vista is old expect it 2 lag when running minecraft I played minecraft on vista for like maybe 2 years now I'm on a Windows 10
Trust me, this laptop being slow is not vista's fault. The machine is filled with bloatware and malware. Clean up the laptop by uninstalling everything non-essential. Then it should be fine. (I've used Vista quite a bit before)
vwestlife I meant all of the background processes. The system tray is FULL. If you uninstall/turn off automatic startup on those non-essential programs it'll run faster. I do think that computer is a bit low-spec'd to be running vista though. That was one of the problems with it at release. Many computers couldn't run it well due to RAM usage. I had Vista and 7 installed on one of my computers once, and 7 ran a tad faster and used less RAM. Luckily the machine had 6 GB of RAM and an i7, so it was fine.
Windows Vista is my favorite Windows OS. I KNOW it was bad back in the day, but that was because all of the PC's still had 512 MB RAM and a slow 1 GHz Processor (thanks to XP :P). Windows Vista with SP2 is a dream OS. I still use it on my second PC and it's fast :) And it also looks amazing :) About the USB thing: That's because it's automatically looking for drivers via Windows Update before installing the standard drivers that are included on every Windows installation. If you disable it, it will work instantly (Like in WIndows 7/8/8.1/10 Windows Update: Not different in Windows 7/8/8.1/10
GTAGAME Every time I plug in a USB mouse, it still takes over a minute for Vista to scan its driver database to find the driver for it. I don't know if that's normal or a problem with this installation. XP is much quicker even on the very first time you use the device; every time after that, it's almost instant.
vwestlife I've had Vista just refuse to look in it's driver database and not install even simple devices, falling back to Windows update for things like a mouse and USB drives. That was SP0/GM though, and only on a old Atom netbook, so I don't imagine that's still a thing!
ictdude1 actually, Vista SP2 with a platform update is just as good as Windows 7 for gaming, even supports DirectX 11, which is required for most new games to play. :P
+Sheldetin If you really want to have a conversation with me, learn some manners first. My statement doesnt need explaining, because it is my opinion. It bought that piece of junk ages ago. Do you even know Windows Millenium Edition? Google it, Troll.
Vista tends to be slow unless you throw a lot of hardware at it. give it 4GB of ram and a quad core CPU and it's just fine, usually. it still feels awkward to use nowadays for me.
Install Service Pack 2 and the platform update, and Vista will be just as fast as 7. And you might want to consider doing a clean install, this OEM install seems faulty from what you've said about wifi not working and the system info not appearing. OEM installs always seem to be crappy anyways. Also, all those little glitches you're experiencing I am not seeing on my Vista installation, so I think your OEM install is faulty. Also there was a ton of crapware installed.. and you might wanna remove babylon toolbar, its just a browser hijacker and a terrible piece of software that shouldn't be on any system. With that said, Vista is still my favorite OS from Microsoft. When set up properly and if installed on capable hardware with SP2, Vista is a solid OS that will not crash often if at all for most users. I have it on an FX 8320 and an SSD, and it runs exceptionally well, and I like the shell/gui more than any other OS microsoft have put out. its simple, clean, and easy to use, and definitely a ton more user friendly than Windows 8. I can't get a 100% absolute definite answer as to whether or not Vista supports the TRIM command for SSDs, some say SP2 introduced it. However I just use the manufacturer's utility which does the job just fine.
To be fair, Vista is only slow on that laptop because it only has 2GB of RAM and a conventional mechanical HDD :P I've found that if a computer has Vista and 2GB RAM, the RAM usage idles at just under 1GB, which is shocking lol!
50LightSabersInAPack Thing is though, a freshly installed WinXP SP3 install with all updates is slow as ass. You're probably better off with Tiny7 or something like that. Or, if you REALLY want to use XP, MicroXP is pretty nice.
I used it for almost 9 long years! You do want to have at least SP1, but other than that I never related to all the horror stories. And that was on a humble Acer laptop with an Intel T5500 CPU and 2 gigs of RAM that cost like 500-600 bucks.
I actually installed Windows Vista SP2 on 10 computers in a small business, because we had the licenses for free and it was a very cheap solution. I've had no problems with it so far, it's really fast, and hasn't crashed even once.
None of this is written in an abusive/troll tone, by the way! I'm struggling to follow the logic of this video. It's a review of a system which has been used heavily and left to sit for a few years, before you find it and start using it. You can't really base an opinion on an operating system fairly when you haven't removed all of the bloatware and spyware which is in the form of those toolbars. This sort of bad software is going to have a negative impact on any machine, let alone a machine which is by now, 6/7 years old. If you formatted it and reinstalled Vista properly, then installed all of the service packs, you would be able to gain a far more honest opinion of the OS. I ran with Vista on a Core 2 Duo PC for a few years and with only 2GB of RAM, it ran perfectly once I'd gone through and disabled any eye candy features I didn't need and gave it a general tune up - I feel the need to do this with Windows 7/8.1/10 on my systems which use SSDs today. The main problem with the OS was that hardware vendors decided not to release real drivers for some older devices. I actually experienced this with Windows 7 as well. The video card which was part of the PC we'd bought had no support, so I had to buy a new one. Overall, Windows 7 looked nicer, but I had no actual performance gains over Vista. You'd do the machine justice by removing everything which isn't core functionality, run a defrag, clean the heatsinks etc on the laptop itself, and use it properly once all the updates are installed. It really, really, is not as bad as some of the hype makes it out to be. As an IT professional, I would rather have a daily driver PC configured with Windows Vista installed than Windows 8, but I always have the latest current, and latest test release of the Windows OS on one of my personal machines so that I am prepared for when it is rolled out where I work.
vwestlife if you pay me several hundred £££ ;-) Removing the adware and other associated nasties (once it has finally populated the list), you may find the weird glitches and sluggishness will improve. I didn't experience that on my Vista machine or on the ones I supported at work. 7 is still my most preferred OS, so run that on my two media players in the house. My first htpc was the Vista one though and I experienced no problems with it.
Am I the only person who had no problems with Windows Vista, had good memories with Windows Vista, and is sad that Vista will lose support next year (2017)? When I got Vista, I felt at home with it and loved it. And I surprisingly had no problems with it! I'll admit there were some slow downs and and glitches from time to time, but overall I loved Vista. Also I think (in my opinion) Vista had (and still does) the BEST Windows Installation period.
vwestlife You could just manually download SP2 from the microsoft website. windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-vista/learn-how-to-install-windows-vista-service-pack-2-sp2#
It is a beaten laptop, otherwise, it would be a lot faster, and Vista is a very good OS and it's really annoying when you complain about EVERYTHING. Use a RTM version of Vista SP2. This computer is loaded full of PUP. It is not slow at all.
Vista was way ahead of its time when launched in 2007. Laptops and pcs,s of those days had 512 mb ram to 1 gb ram. Other specs were also far below for vista to run perfectly.....by the time vista sp2 came it was almost perfect apart from the normal glitches which any MS OS has but it was already too late and windows 7 was on the horizon.. It was a massive overhaul of an OS and i liked it very much. I have used vista for 7+ years and still plan to use it on one out of my 4 laptops
Yea it was not bad.But at the time it used a lot more power compared to XP. If you use windows vista on a modern pc (core i3, i5, i7. 4gb or more memory) it would not be as bad
+Matt's computer support Plus older machines usually had like 1GB of RAM and a graphics card with 64MB of VRAM. Plus, a lot of machines were still single-cores, generally Pentium 4's, so Vista was bound to be slow with all the transparency. But once PCs started getting dual core processors and upwards of 3GB RAM, it was fine.
+SeemsLegit “SeemsLegitGaming” Gaming i wouldn't be to sure about that. I installed windows 7 to a Q6600 and it ran a lot better than vista. Never looked back since.
+I'm Back Vista is my favorite OS by Microsoft so far. Like it a lot better than Windows 10, even in 2016. Everything is so easy to do, such as go to a certain drive or even just Control Panel. Windows 10 buries everything to the point where you have to search for everything for like 10 minutes xD
+Cooldude Xtreme That depends on what the specs of your computer are. Usually, if it runs Vista happily and gets at least a Windows Experience Index rating of about a 3.0, you should be fine.
If you upgrade to windows vista service pack 2 and update it completly most of the bugs are out. And i have it personally on balanced because you have good battery life and good performance.
that's a pretty nice laptop for the time period. I wish other laptop manufacturers still made the analog volume control wheel. That is a feature I really miss about old Toshibas.
+SonicKnuckles1998 i mean, windows 8 worked perfectly fine for me. totally stable and totally usable, and i never had any issues with it. it was great.
+mcr trash I suppose it would be stable and usable if you were using it on a tablet, however the majority of people weren't, they were using it on a PC and it was horror seeing my computer transformed into an non-portable, completely useless Windows phone with terrible compatibility. Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 10 are the best versions of Windows in my opinion.
***** Eh, 95 - 2000 is a little outdated *in my opinion* (felt like I needed to highlight "in my opinion" so that everyone didn't try to murder me and start a huge flame war because I don't like something they do. Oh who am I kidding that's what's gonna happen anyway.).
***** Ok, I'll be honest. 2000 isn't outdated. I just don't like it personally, but I know that people start flame wars just by saying they don't like something that the majority do. It probably has something to do with the fact that I haven't used 2000 that much, I've spent the majority of my time using computers on Windows XP onwards and Ubuntu distros. I'm sure 2000 is pretty good, but I haven't spent that much time using it and during the time I have spent using it I haven't enjoyed it and holy shit I didn't realise how long this comment was getting.
Windows Vista was hated because of its high performance requirements and its low support for printers and stuff like that,it is fixed, but Microsoft released windows 7 soon after that. I think it still has a low reputation today
I really like Vista, the only problem was that when it came out a lot of the computer weren't powerful enough to run it decently (underpowered processors, underpowered graphics, not enough RAM). When computers started shipping with Windows 7, that's when they would have ran Vista the best. If you plan on getting it today, make sure you get SP2.
i mean were you install vista on that computer and install software as you would any other machine and do a sort of review on it using it and talk about its performance, features, etc. not just "cleaning up" an infected pc you found in the dumpster. Why didn't you do the usual CCleaner/Malwarebytes/Defrag? you just speculated it was slow but "similar to a beta of 7" wile it had obvious malware on the system. I understand you couldn't find a pertition, but you didn't even try beyond manualy removing stuff, did you even scan the system with the McAffee? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just wanting a redo as people flack vista and it wasn't that bad. I know it's just an OS, but this is a channel partly about tech.
I got all of the unwanted software off of the system before giving it my final verdict in this video. By the end most of my complaints were UI design-related rather than performance-related, so running a defrag wouldn't have made any difference. This laptop is currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and I have no plans to try Vista again.
i bet another reason why that thing was so because if you looked i notice the previous person that was probably useing u torrent a lot and because when used they used that that could really been the reason
Windows Vista wasn't bad, Actually it added so many useful features. Windows 7 Isn't legendary, It's a terrible upgrade. After you read this, You'll see why Windows Vista is more important that 7. First off, Let's name some new features and other things. Internet Explorer 7 Is decent - Now IE7 Isn't as good as google chrome or firefox but it was decent. Sure, It was slow but it got a nice UI upgrade and not only that, It can browse the modern web! Still useless compared to the other browsers though. Windows Aero - One of the best things about windows vista is that it changed the UI Theme from Luna to the beautiful Aero. This changed everything, It looks so damn good but it was way too advanced for it's time needing tones of RAM, CPU and A good GPU. Windows Gadgets - Now this wasn't a very useful feature but it was kinda cool to have. A whole new set of icons - Windows Vista Improved its icons so much. Almost every icon got updated and that was a good thing. Windows meeting Space - Did you use netmeeting? This was the program that replaced it. Not much more I can say about this other than it's better. Snipping tool is bundled with Vista - A nice tool where you can take screenshots of your windows machine. It's pretty useful and it was first added in the windows XP experience Pack Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. More secure - I don't know much about this topic But it had better security and windows vista was classed as a failure so there's not as many malware made. The rest of the features will be listed here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windows_Vista#New_and_upgraded_applications Now that's SOME things. Let's talk about windows 7. Ever herd about Windows 98? Windows 7 was the windows 98 for Vista. Windows 98 was Like a hardware update for windows 95 but Windows 98 was a new OS. It changed nothing useful except if it's hardware based. Windows 7 was the same. It changed nothing. Now let's see why windows vista failed: System requirements - Like I said before, Aero needs horsepower, And tones of it. That was the main reason it failed. Small Driver Database - at the launch of Vista it had barely any drivers. What else do I need to say about that? :P It was buggy - It was very buggy at its release. Service pack 1 and 2 fixed that. So that's 3 reasons, But let's look at Windows 7 That only fixed the driver issue. People say say windows Vista is slow due to the requirements, But windows 7's is the same or maybe even Higher! But they say that's fast. So why not Vista? They say that because the PC's in 2009 we're more powerful than the 2005 ones. Windows vista had around the same speed as 7. Windows 7 was a little faster but not by any degree to were it'll matter. With windows vista sp2 Pretty much all the bugs were fixed. They waited till the end to fix all the bugs While windows 7 Will have some bugs no matter what. So is windows vista better than 7?Well no because it does have tweaks, More Software due to popularity and more drivers. It had TRIM, USB 3.0 support, and It Could use Directx 11! But remember this, Windows 7 isn't Legendery or perfect. It would be useless without Vista. Look at windows vista and then windows 7. It's the same with small tweaks. All of windows 7's Best and useful Features came from windows vista, So if windows Vista is bad, Doesn't that mean windows 7 is too? Windows 7 is just a service pack for windows vista at best. Windows 95, Windows XP and vista are the most legendery OS's ever, But windows 95 will always be the most legendery With windows vista scoring second.
Literally used to have this computer with Windows Vista. The only difference was that it had a Pentium processor. Vista was awful, and the computer had TONS of viruses
Vista Ultimate 64 bit is my absolute favorite OS to this day. Just loading up Halo 2: Games For Windows LIVE and playing with my friends online made it all worth it.
I ran Vista 64-bit on my hp 9402f from January 2009 until some time in Aug 2015. After six and a half years it was still running great and was more stable than anything I used before. I'd get maybe one or two bluescreens a year, which I didn't consider an issue. Rebooting always fixed it. But it was finally time to upgrade the OS so I could update some music software that required Win 7. So if you and your software are happy with Vista you'll be fine for awhile.
So I ran Vista back in the day, during the bad press it was getting, but I figured out how to tweak and make it run fast. I found that it was constantly "Thrashing" my hard drives. So I went in and disabled all of the disk indexing services and features. Recall that even in XP sp2, they implemented an indexing feature that tended to thrash your HDD's so disabling this improved performance a great deal. On Vista, if you go into Start > Run > Services.MSC and disable SuperFetch, Windows Search and de-index your drive from My Computer, the performance of Vista is OUTSTANDING. There's a couple other tweaks you can do as well, but I can't remember off the top of my head! Microsoft seemed to improve the indexing feature in Win7 because there was no issue with speed...I never had to disable these features, once I updated to 7 and even 10...
WIndows 7 is just Windows Vista Lite. the only reason I had to go to Windows 7 was my codec support ended on the Vista early. otherwise Windows 7 is just Windows Vista but dumbed down for other people to use it. Which by then we had the hardware to run the thing just fine. Now Windows 8/8.1 that was much worse than Vista. Mostly because it was advertised as a desktop/laptop unit when it was simply a tablet system or something with a touch screen. that was a must. 8.0 for sure 8.1 well by then they'd killed the OS think they'd rather forget 8.0/1 faster than Vista
I just bought an Optiplex 330 with a fresh install of Vista plus all the security updates....it honestly doesn't run too badly on it, but with lack of hardware/software support and security updates ending next year...I'll be upgrading it to 7.
I had a Toshiba satellite laptop that was also Windows Vista. I bought it brand new back in 2007. For the first year I had nothing but problems. Hard drive kept on crashing, WiFi consistently gave out, sound would stop working. After the first year I had very few problems with it. I wish Toshiba still made laptops though. They had great customer support. I had a Toshiba satellite laptop with windows 95 on it and I wish I still had it, I loved that laptop.
Akasagi Phan Oh how I sorely miss Vista Dreamscape. Although I've tried a 3rd party version on one of my W7 PCs, it crashes every now and again. Why MS refuses to add Dreamscape like features 3 Operating Systems later is beyond me.
wyzemann Most laptops' and notebooks' specs at the time of Windows Vista and even Windows 7 could not handle that feature very smoothly. And it consumed battery like hell. But they should have brought it back with Windows 10 though, mobile devices nowadays are way more powerful than before.
+Talking Banter I have used almost all versions of Windows(98, XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, 10). I can confirm Vista is awesome! But then again it's mostly a matter of taste and it also depends on your PC and the programs you install. I installed a dock, used the sidebar to it's full potential and the magnificent Dream Scene. Else I ran it on a Phenon II x4, not a Ferrari, but it surely never got nearly as slow as many Pentium 4 I've seen running XP.
Vista isn't bad. The majority of people just said it was bad so everybody else was like "Fuck it, its bad." Its actually a really good OS. Still worth installing and using today in my opinion.
What you could do is go to system restore and check for restore points created from awhile ago like the first Windows Vista update and if you do that (If possible) that Windows Vista Toshiba laptop would be like new but I also recommend is that you run a Malwarebytes scan or any antivirus scan Avira could be the best free anti virus to get. Even though people don't care for Vista that much. Also there could be corrupted files in the Windows registry or viruses that could be causing problems or an infected user account.
Well that comment was only to help in case you want a close to new installation of Windows Vista I did watch the end of the video but I'd like to mention out that I currently have a Windows Vista laptop that has no service packs installed and no updates so far I know... And it works fine without any bugs so I am not that sure if it's broken registrys or malware or trojans you might want to run a Malwarebytes scan.
***** You assume wrong. I'm typing on this right now: thumbs4.picclick.com/d/w1600/pict/152244139083_/Vintage-Clicky-Keyboard-Acros-6311-K-US-Mechanical-PS-2.jpg
Elton John if I remember right, if defaults to what my computer would be. But if it doesn't, then no what. All you have to do is click your drive on the left instead of the middle. Still much faster than clicking an icon.
***** Well, by Gaming PC, I mean its a 2008 hp with a graphics card that originally came with vista. I have upgraded to Windows 7 recently because now it has become unstable and unusable.
+connorwillett12 People who aren't stupid like you and are happy with Vista because it runs games, which if you didn't know, is kinda the point of a gaming PC.
Oh my god. To me, Windows vista is golden nostalgia. My first personal computer had vista on it. I heard that vista was terrible, which is why i upgraded to Windows 7. Looking back, Vista was definately not that bad. Upgrading to windows 7 via a complete clean install, my computer speed was still the same. They said upgrading to 7 was a lot faster, they were wrong. Windows Vista was REALLY not that bad in my opinion. I miss it. Now i'm using Windows 10 on a custom build. It's not a UEFI bios, so i can easily install earlier than Windows 8. I'm getting windows 7 back the first chance i get.
Vista wasn't bad for me. It works great for me. SP1 really was not good. There was some improvements, but it didn't work out. RTM was terrible. Nothing Worked.
+Florinel787 It was the equivalent of two faulty os, that they duck taped together with no time to really develop its backbone. It was and still is, a horrible inbreed mutant child. That no patches could save. Only remedy it's many many flaws.
Florinel787 how you feel about that? It seems to me like they made it into a ipad generation os. No depth just pretty ui for the plebs. But does it hold more?
I would like it if they had that green-blue gradient look on the side of Control Panel in Windows 7, and maybe a flat version of it for Windows 8 and 10. I really like that.
I have never had my Windows 7 uninstall an application and then tell me about it because it suddenly judged that app that worked well for half a year is now incompatible. With windows 10 - yes.
I'm just gonna say this computer has half a million programs installed on it no wonder your getting a bad impression of windows vista try clearing all the programs I don't need man :-)
Lots of people buy laptops and never change the performance of the CPU from the options power saver, balanced and high performance. Most people just assume the machine is just slow and sell em or trade them in. Loads of IT guy use this to their advantage.
Why does everybody hate Windows Vista so much? Vista was the first version of Windows I had ever used in my life, and I don't see whats so bad about it.The only changes I really at all noticed between Windows Vista and Windows 7 is the taskbar, how you can change the color, the more glossier look on Vista, and the loading screen. I like Windows Vista..
If I ever got my hands on someone's old laptop, I would stalk all their files and go into all the accounts they probably saved their passwords with loooool
That's exactly what a 13 year old mind would do. Any self respecting IT professional would stay out of there. Not that you will actually find anything interesting anyway on other people their disks. Mostly a bunch of word documents and holiday pictures which doesn't have any value for you.
+Richard van Pukkem I am 13, and working on an A Plus certification from CompTia. What I would do with any older laptop that worked fine, is wipe the HDD, put a Windows OS on it, or a Linux OS, and sell it. If it were torn up too much, or I specifically liked it, I would keep it. My parents/siblings could use even a Pentium 4 Dell Desktop for web browsing/school.
reviewing vista on a heavy used (and invected) installation is very bad... i used vista for years, it was never bad, 7 is better, but i like vista, it looks good (like 7, and better than 8, 8.1and 10) if you review a system, os or whatever, pls, use a clean system....
Windows 7 is a heavily modified and optimized Windows Vista, just like Windows 10 is very similiar to Windows 8.1 I'm pretty sure Windows 98 and Windows 95 work similiarly
reason why people thought vista is slow is because most people installed it on old shitty 512mb ram pc's, but on a modern pc it's pretty much exactly the same speed as 7.
+JACKO- LANTERN are you crazy? Windows 10 works perfectly fine, boots up fast, is pretty stable, dx12 support. if you dont like the design, install a theme.
+Jonni0171 | KANALRESTART! Windows 10 is all broken for me... when you first start the computer, it is perfect, but slowly over time the taskbar stops working (you cant bring up the start menu, or right-click anything on the taskbar). Sound also stops working, and can sometimes be fixed simply by unplugging my headphones and plugging them back in, sometimes only a restart fixes it. All i can describe it as is frustrating.
Mabel Pines oh god, your installation is as i would say dead. you should consider to Clean install Windows 10, that fix all of the problems which could happen in a upgrade.
Lol I upgraded the week it came out. I do wish I waited for a bit longer though, since I only had a Dell Dimension 4600 P4, 1GB RAM, and an 80GB HDD lol
Windows Vista is not bad at all. I got a very expensive laptop for Christmas in 2008 with Windows Vista. Everything went very fast, and I loved this Aero surface. I've always wondered why my friends at the time detested Vista. Everything went well for me, not a single mistake, games are going well, I was able to hear good music while drawing with my graphics tablet. Today I still use this laptop, with Windows Vista. I've had to pick a "trick" on the internet so I'll still get updates until 2020. Meanwhile, I tried Windows 10 in the dual-boot, and I'm disappointed. There are so many unnecessary apps running in the background, it looks so cheap and has made many problems, even games I could not play properly. I love this laptop, and especially Windows Vista. I'm going to be so sad when I need to upgrade to Windows 10.
The biggest problem is 3 words: Core 2 Duo. These garbage CPUs were crippled with a 32-bit memory controller so all they could see was 3.2 gigs of RAM. The AMD Turions were able to handle up to 8 gigs. Computers with Core 2 Duos were sentenced to have a viable lifespan less than half that of other systems of the era. And for what cause? To let Intel use its remaining stock of obsolete motherboard chips. My father got a Turion X2 laptop back then. That laptop is STILL usable and running Windows 10 now. Around that same time, I built a computer with Windows Vista in mind, and, aside from NVidia dropping the ball on driver support, I had no problems with Vista. What many people don't realize is that you got no gaming benefits from multiple cores on Windows XP. The reason for this is because XP did not keep the CPU cores properly synchronized. Windows XP only supported asynchronous multithreading, which works fine when the timing and order that the tasks are completed is not critical; i.e., database operations. Games require synchronous multithreading, which means tasks are run and completed simultaneously or staggered to run one after another, in sequence. Windows XP could not handle this, so your extra cores were useless for gaming.
VWestlife Video editing on old hardware is interesting to me because I do all my editing on a Acer M670G which is from 2009. I'm running Ubuntu and recently upgraded to an SSD. It does pretty good but it could be better.
We had pretty much these exact computers in my first school for many years, which had downgraded them back to XP from Vista (most of them still had the Vista stickers) and by the time I left 7 years after starting there, they threw them all in the trash instead of taking the time to wipe them and give them away. Guess it just wasn't worth their time.
Windows Vista isn´t that bad, i used since 2009 to last summer, no problem. So what´s the big deal? Windows 7 is just better Vista. So please remember that.
I actually used windows Vista for about a year, I was surprised at how Windows XP like it was in all honesty. Paid 50 bucks for the laptop that came with Vista and it was well worth the money, I still use the laptop to this day, although I have ArcoLinux installed on it now. It's still going strong for a Pentium Dual T3400 @2.16GHz. Maxed out at 4GB of ddr2 RAM.
It was right about time when Vista came out that I upgraded my PC. Luckly it came with 2GB of ram instead 1GB because their error, which was fine for me! Vista worked fine for me, the hate was overrated.
Vista was a pretty bad OS when it came out. Not terrible, but the fact that Windows 7 came out soon after and worked so much better proved that Vista should've been developed longer. The main issues I had at launch was piss poor driver support (printer, wifi and soundcard were not recognized), the fact that the OS hogged so much processing power and RAM that it slowed the entire PC down (and I had a pretty good PC back then) and that annoying user control horseshit, which questioned everything I did. "You moved the mouse cursor, are you sure you want to do this?"
Well vista with all the updates runs as smooth as 7, it's mostly the fact that vista never really got the chance to redeem it's reputation even with updates as 7 came so shortly after, at the end of the day 7 is just Vista SP2 with a few differences and new taskbar
Gah a Centrino CPU. That's some low end tech. And can confirm the Vista bootup only displayed the loading bar, no logo displayed. Also can confirm old Toshibas from that era used Recovery CDs rather than a recovery partition (which I preferred actually). Most came with 2 CDs where 1st was the OS and the 2nd was the driver and bloatware. The installation process had this awesome glitch where you could force a reboot when it would ask for the 2nd disk and you would wind up with a clean OS with no bloatware but no drivers (could get the drivers from the support site). Very easy way to get a clean install without the bloatware.
I'm running Vista Business Edition on my Toshiba Satellite and to be honest out of that, Windows 7 and Windows 10 it has been running the best, so I can only speak as I find, works for me. The only downside of the Satellite is that I can't swap out the processor because it is soldered to the motherboard, other than that it is a nice machine (sporting an i3).My one has the SkullCandy speakers which to be honest are bloody awful.
Vista had a boatload of security improvements that slowed down the system (e.g GDI programs lost hardware acceleration with the new video driver model). I think this allowed the barebones installs to surpass Mac OS X in terms of security, although adding poorly coded/maintained drivers and software has always compromised this.
I used Vista when it was out, i was worn of the UI look of XP so Vista was a fresh new look and loved the transparency and glass look. Seeing Vista now brings back some memories. I never had issues with it myself. But does feel a bit dated now lol
Seeing those icons and the old Aero theme, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy... :-) I've worked with Vista for years and quite enjoyed it. Once I made a dual boot with Windows 7, and I wasn't impressed. It felt Windows 7 was just another Service Pack for Windows Vista. I removed the dual boot and skipped Windows 7 entirely.
I work at a local computer repair shop/ refurbisher and we sell Vista machines for $80 to $100 dollars, as more budget oriented machines. We upgrade all systems to SP2, as it fixes pretty much all of the notable Vista issues. I frequently tell people that Vista is not a bad operating system, but that it gets a bad rap for the issues that it has on launch. Just as stable as Win 7, providing it's upgraded to SP2 in my opinion. (We also make sure all Vista laptop systems have a minimum 2GB of RAM).
The problem back then was that people were used to the low system requirements of XP so they didn't bother upgrading their hardware too much. When Vista came out people were like "woah", now you suddenly need 2GB ram to run decently. Once 7 came out, people had already upgraded their hardware.
If a 2004 laptop could not run Vista decently, then it would be just as bad (if not worse) using 7.
@@evoste would it run aero?
@@etmezh9073 My old Dell couldn't run aero on Vista due to Vista not working with older GPU chipsets. I think this was Microsoft being Microsoft forcing people to upgrade hardware at the time. Yet Windows 7 ran fine for a few years before I bought a new laptop.
just me who thinks vista is the best looking windows?
+SeemsLegit “SeemsLegitGaming” Gaming yay!

Two main issues were responsible for the initial disaster (by the time it got to SP2, everything was fine):
I remember when my Acer laptop had a problem, I used a Dell Vostro 23-something with Vista, and worked very well!
Windows Vista was good but buggy at release.
Rage Quit Pretty much every OS is buggy at release.
+Person. I dont Think windows 7 will be stopped
i think theres too many people that will stay on windows 7 for another 7/8 years
yes you are right..
+Minetrap997 Microsoft doesn't care. They WANT people to switch to Windows 10. Which is why they offered Windows 10 for free for basically everyone using 7/8/8.1. If you didn't/don't grab it for free by June 2015 then your loss. They WILL end windows 7 support eventually.
well i just updated to Windows 10 its ok xD much better than Windows 8....
Good!
*****
Okay but have you actually used both on a pentium 4?
+garcemac Feel free to make your own video demonstrating how well Vista runs on your system. :-)
+Eternal Legion Gaming I did. It was still slow.
Nothing changed, people just hated vista, for being vista.
when I used Windows vista I had no problems with it.
+E Tech Reviews Same for me
+sheppardpat47 me 2 but just a little slow it's fine but playing minecraft it's very slow but it's not a that bad anyways windows vista is old expect it 2 lag when running minecraft I played minecraft on vista for like maybe 2 years now I'm on a Windows 10
Nidia usan ...Minecraft?In 2016?
when I used Windows vista I had no problems with it. except BSOD
Tarikul Islam i had no problems, no bsod, nothing
Trust me, this laptop being slow is not vista's fault. The machine is filled with bloatware and malware. Clean up the laptop by uninstalling everything non-essential. Then it should be fine. (I've used Vista quite a bit before)
Daniel Schulz Keep watching the video. If you did, you'll see that I did clear out the junkware.
vwestlife I meant all of the background processes.
Daniel Schulz I now have Windows 7 Ultimate on it and it runs beautifully. I can even edit 1080p HD video on it without any problems.
That moment you realize even today Vista is better than Windows 10.
No.
ACN EtzGamer Plot Twist: Yes.
No.
+BlankFX What is wrong with a tidy and fluid metro-style operating system?
ACN EtzGamer Exactly.
Windows Vista is my favorite Windows OS. I KNOW it was bad back in the day, but that was because all of the PC's still had 512 MB RAM and a slow 1 GHz Processor (thanks to XP :P). Windows Vista with SP2 is a dream OS. I still use it on my second PC and it's fast :) And it also looks amazing :)
About the USB thing: That's because it's automatically looking for drivers via Windows Update before installing the standard drivers that are included on every Windows installation. If you disable it, it will work instantly (Like in WIndows 7/8/8.1/10
Windows Update: Not different in Windows 7/8/8.1/10
its ok for basic use but defiantly not good for people like gamers, it was proven that gaming on vista alone could lose you 10 fps or more, ;/
GTAGAME Every time I plug in a USB mouse, it still takes over a minute for Vista to scan its driver database to find the driver for it. I don't know if that's normal or a problem with this installation. XP is much quicker even on the very first time you use the device; every time after that, it's almost instant.
ictdude1 Hmm, i never had any problems with playing games on vista
vwestlife I've had Vista just refuse to look in it's driver database and not install even simple devices, falling back to Windows update for things like a mouse and USB drives.
That was SP0/GM though, and only on a old Atom netbook, so I don't imagine that's still a thing!
ictdude1 actually, Vista SP2 with a platform update is just as good as Windows 7 for gaming, even supports DirectX 11, which is required for most new games to play. :P
So you gave your "review" of windows vista using a shitty, infested laptop you found in the dumpster....
+H3MPY So true
Your*
It's not even a review.
And he didn't even install the service pack 2 which makes it as good as 7.
+விஷ்ணு கார்த்திக் He did
Windows ME was probably the worst OS that MS ever released on the market.
+Michael Davidson Disagree. Windows Vista had so many issues initially. ME and Vista are awesome now.
***** True. Early versions of ME and Vista would not be very good in VMs at all
+Michael Davidson ME was an absolute failure =)
+Sheldetin If you really want to have a conversation with me, learn some manners first. My statement doesnt need explaining, because it is my opinion. It bought that piece of junk ages ago. Do you even know Windows Millenium Edition? Google it, Troll.
No, Windows 8.0. But 8.1 was way better.
To be fair, Vista is only slow on that laptop because it only has 2GB of RAM and a conventional mechanical HDD :P
I've found that if a computer has Vista and 2GB RAM, the RAM usage idles at just under 1GB, which is shocking lol!
When they released Vista pc makers sold laptops from 258mb (really low end) to 1 or 2gb (high end) so yeah. Everything sucks on 258 or 512mb :D
That's what I love about XP - it can run on 256MB of RAM :D
50LightSabersInAPack If you slim it down enough it'll run on 128MB. Stock XP OEM SP0 runs at 80MB.
c0d3r3d That's brilliant! If XP had support for the new Direct Xs, and still received security updates, I'd probably be using that on most devices!
50LightSabersInAPack Thing is though, a freshly installed WinXP SP3 install with all updates is slow as ass. You're probably better off with Tiny7 or something like that. Or, if you REALLY want to use XP, MicroXP is pretty nice.
Am I the only one who enjoyed Windows Vista?
no
Obviously not. I LOVE VISTA
I used it for almost 9 long years! You do want to have at least SP1, but other than that I never related to all the horror stories. And that was on a humble Acer laptop with an Intel T5500 CPU and 2 gigs of RAM that cost like 500-600 bucks.
Yes but actually no
You have a worn out laptop. Thereby you can not tell whether Windows Vista is good or bad.
Craig McLellan If you send me a Vista disc (with valid product key) so I can do a clean reinstallation, I'd be glad to do an updated review of it.
vwestlife if you pay me several hundred £££ ;-)
Removing the adware and other associated nasties (once it has finally populated the list), you may find the weird glitches and sluggishness will improve. I didn't experience that on my Vista machine or on the ones I supported at work.
7 is still my most preferred OS, so run that on my two media players in the house. My first htpc was the Vista one though and I experienced no problems with it.
Craig McLellan After making that clip of showing the installed programs, I removed all of the malware and other unwanted programs.
I had a couple problems with drivers, resulting me to switch back to XP until mid 07. But after that it was fine.
Replying to 6 month old comments, what the hell am i doing?Anyway, why not use Flip?As far as i know,it works the same as Flip 3D,just not 3D.
😉❤💚💙💛
Vista wasn't that bad.
You haven't even installed Service Pack 2.. that alone means you lose ALL credibility!
You haven't even watched the entire video... that alone means you lose ALL credibility!
vwestlife You could just manually download SP2 from the microsoft website.
windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-vista/learn-how-to-install-windows-vista-service-pack-2-sp2#
***** Hopefully...
***** I know that, its just that 90% of this video is about SP1 vista not SP2 Vista and let's not forget all the malware&bloatware this laptop has.
***** Fuck off.. -_-
Let's see how much CPU and RAM that's being eaten up when it's just sitting there "idle".
Had Vista SP2 32-bit for awhile on a 2005 Compaq Presario laptop with 1GB DDR RAM. Idling, it'd average around 800MB!
Service Pack 2 gives you a big speed boost that can even rival Windows 7. The boot times are actually faster than 7 if you install SP2.
Its not hard to beat win7 boot times. At least in my case anyway. I've never used vista but 7 has always been awfully slow compared to xp, 8.1 and 10
It is a beaten laptop, otherwise, it would be a lot faster, and Vista is a very good OS and it's really annoying when you complain about EVERYTHING.
I have used vista for 7+ years and still plan to use it on one out of my 4 laptops
windows vista was actually very good, it wasn't the best but it did the job justfine
+GOHSMarchingBand&Drumline mine runs better on vista
***** Mine too.
Posting this from Windows Vista Ultimate SP2, it runs very well on my dell optiplex gx620.
+( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) How do you get the Lenny Face do u just copy and paste?
yes
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Ok thx Lenny! Just wondering who was the first person who created you?
It's unknown.
One last thing Lenny do u know how to make your own face without copy and paste?
Windows Vista isn't that bad, my computer is running Vista and I like it.
+SeemsLegit “SeemsLegitGaming” Gaming yah, should I keep my computer on Vista or upgrade to 7?
+Cooldude Xtreme Vista is much better now than before, but windows 7 is more secure and alot more people still use it.
andrej tometić Yes, Microsoft brought Vista's grade up to C-to A+.
And i have it personally on balanced because you have good battery life and good performance.
shouldnt have to upgrade it fully to get it functional.
What pisses me off the most is that they criticize vista more than Windows 10 or 8.1.
that's a pretty nice laptop for the time period. I wish other laptop manufacturers still made the analog volume control wheel. That is a feature I really miss about old Toshibas.
It's not really that bad compared to Windows 8.
Yea, windows 8 is a faster OS!
Who's watching this on windows 10
#Win10 Suhh,Dude (ME)
ImAdnan Tell me. pls :3. Why is Vista very hated? I used windows 7 and 10 that's it
Windows Vista was hated because of its high performance requirements and its low support for printers and stuff like that,it is fixed, but Microsoft released windows 7 soon after that. I think it still has a low reputation today
I'm watching this on Windows 95 ;3
TCTrond Yea, but that's the very reason it was bad.
As soon as you said service pack 1...
dude, Vista SP2 fixed almost EVERYTHING in Vista...
Dude, by the end of the video I did get SP2 installed.
vwestlife Oh right I'll continue watching then I thought you were just gonna judge it off of SP1 lol
VWestlife windows me is the worst ever
I really like Vista, the only problem was that when it came out a lot of the computer weren't powerful enough to run it decently (underpowered processors, underpowered graphics, not enough RAM). When computers started shipping with Windows 7, that's when they would have ran Vista the best. If you plan on getting it today, make sure you get SP2.
I've been using Vista since 2007.
Can you please do an update to this video with a fresh install of vista?
Watch the end of the video for the update.
i mean were you install vista on that computer and install software as you would any other machine and do a sort of review on it using it and talk about its performance, features, etc. not just "cleaning up" an infected pc you found in the dumpster.
This laptop is currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and I have no plans to try Vista again.
vwestlife ok cool
i bet another reason why that thing was so because if you looked i notice the previous person that was probably useing u torrent a lot and because when used they used that that could really been the reason
“No extra charge for the stickers” :)
The rest of the features will be listed here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windows_Vista#New_and_upgraded_applications
Now that's SOME things.
Now let's see why windows vista failed:
System requirements - Like I said before, Aero needs horsepower, And tones of it. That was the main reason it failed.
Small Driver Database - at the launch of Vista it had barely any drivers. What else do I need to say about that? :P
It was buggy - It was very buggy at its release.
I don't disagree with all that, but you keep writing "it's" when you mean to write "its" (no apostrophe).
I might of said "it's" sometimes where "its" was needed. since they are both used for different purposes.
I fixed the errors.
Yantoo Network there's nothing I can do about that my whole school runs on Windows 7
Silas McGee Well that's their decision. Windows 7 is probably better for schools anyways.
Literally used to have this computer with Windows Vista. The only difference was that it had a Pentium processor. Vista was awful, and the computer had TONS of viruses
Vista Ultimate 64 bit is my absolute favorite OS to this day. Just loading up Halo 2: Games For Windows LIVE and playing with my friends online made it all worth it.
the 2gb of ram is why its so slow
Most Vista laptops came with half that. 2Gb is plenty for Vista.
+FCFordLord not for 7
+skotty523 Computers at the time had this ammount of ram on them xp: 512mb, vista: 512 - 1gig, 7: 2gig +, 8-10: 8gig +
+ArcticRazer:|| MTB Winds
Yeah, but that's why Vista ran like crap back in the day. Vista was a total RAM hog.
+skotty523 It's the processor and the bloatware on the PC he was using that made it so slow.
For a fair review you need a fresh installation. For instance the google desktop was something that the previous owner installed.
I have windows vista and it works much better
Idc
I still prefer Windows XP, even today.
UnKnownSoldier41 Me too. :-)
***** Yep
Windows 7 is good too
I think I might have to give it a try. It looks alright I guess....
So? That doesn't mean I can use it for my main computer.
Vista is just Windows 7 twin like if you agree
That is not true.
+Tahead Hussain lol, definetly not. 7 and vista are actually quite different.
Its not, windows 7 is younger than vista, it gets more updates and vista barely does.
AlexTheUnicorn215 vista is actually unsupported as of 2012 (i believe).
Leopold Slikk really? wow.
I had a Toshiba satellite laptop with windows 95 on it and I wish I still had it, I loved that laptop.
this video should be called "is this shitty computer really that bad"?. This is no way to try an OS.
you could always use a virtual machine
It had Babylon toolbar XD
One thing all of us can agree though, Windows Vista has the flashiest user interface of all Windows versions (which I find a good thing).
Looks like Apple's Aqua GUI.
But they should have brought it back with Windows 10 though, mobile devices nowadays are way more powerful than before.
vista was the best os i ever used, everyone just cribs without even noticing the difference
You ever used, how many Operating Systems have you used? Don't say all of them, because I don't fall for any of that crap
The majority of people just said it was bad so everybody else was like "Fuck it, its bad."
Its actually a really good OS. Still worth installing and using today in my opinion.
I'm using Vista in my Dell D-630 laptop with 150 GB hard drive and 4 gigs ram.....I've had this thing for a long time...always works great! :)
Please watch the video until the end.
I did.
What was the scan results?
Nathan David No viruses or malicious software, just some adware/junkware that I cleared out.
Haven't you ever heard of Windows+E? It opens up My Computer. It's significantly faster than clicking an icon.
The keyboard I use most often doesn't have a Windows key.
VWestlife irrelevant (assuming its a Mac keyboard). The Apple key acts as the Windows key.
*****
You assume wrong. I'm typing on this right now: thumbs4.picclick.com/d/w1600/pict/152244139083_/Vintage-Clicky-Keyboard-Acros-6311-K-US-Mechanical-PS-2.jpg
VWestlife wow, I guess I did. What an oddity (these days, at least)! 😊😄
Elton John if I remember right, if defaults to what my computer would be. But if it doesn't, then no what. All you have to do is click your drive on the left instead of the middle. Still much faster than clicking an icon.
I use Vista on my gaming pc because it runs games good and it looks good. I have no idea why people say its so bad...
me too...
***** Well, by Gaming PC, I mean its a 2008 hp with a graphics card that originally came with vista. I have upgraded to Windows 7 recently because now it has become unstable and unusable.
***** LOL me... It runs everything great! I don't see why people hate vista so much
+connorwillett12 People who aren't stupid like you and are happy with Vista because it runs games, which if you didn't know, is kinda the point of a gaming PC.
I seriously forgot what I was watching by the time he said "And yes it is running Windows Vista, which my point of this video."
Then I remembered.
Vista and 7 look the same.
+Satchel Hogan If I remember right vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 use the same architecture.
if you've used both, you'll notice a lot of small differences in terms of design
I've never used Vista To be honest, I grew up using windows XP.
+Newbie13XD Which you can mostly negate through minor customizations (no modding here).
I try to keep transitions as smooth as possible for people.
+Satchel Hogan I grew up on Windows ME lol
Vista wasn't bad for me. It works great for me.
SP1 really was not good. There was some improvements, but it didn't work out.
RTM was terrible. Nothing Worked.
***** SP2 was great!
I loved using it on multiple PCs.
Windows Vista isn't that bad,in my opinion. It just needed some patches to become a good OS.
Agreed.
+Florinel787 It was the equivalent of two faulty os, that they duck taped together with no time to really develop its backbone.
It was and still is, a horrible inbreed mutant child. That no patches could save. Only remedy it's many many flaws.
+AbSoul wow...deep...meh, i use windows 10, who cares.
Vista SP2 was the last service pack. It improved loads after that, became pretty much what Windows 7 is today.
kind of funny how people used windows xp instead of vista just like how people use 7 instead of 10
People who use 7 instead of 10 are pretty dumb. It's better in every way.
brandon dickens Judging by your picture I presumed you were gonna go on the default "OS X is better than Windows" rant. Congrats for not :)
***** How can you say that 7 looks better than 10? Areo is so fucking 2009 it's unreal.
***** But basically everything is minimalist.
I have never had my Windows 7 uninstall an application and then tell me about it because it suddenly judged that app that worked well for half a year is now incompatible. With windows 10 - yes.
Before you "evaluate" an O/S, on an older system, CLEAN IT UP!! By that, I mean, the O/S.
I did.
My apologies. :)
I'm just gonna say this computer has half a million programs installed on it no wonder your getting a bad impression of windows vista try clearing all the programs I don't need man :-)
I guess you didn't watch the video until the end?
+BlackOut lol
That's exactly what a 13 year old mind would do. Any self respecting IT professional would stay out of there. Not that you will actually find anything interesting anyway on other people their disks. Mostly a bunch of word documents and holiday pictures which doesn't have any value for you.
+Richard van Pukkem
I am 13, and working on an A Plus certification from CompTia.
Sure
Just put Windows 7 on her, that's what I did with mine, she runs much faster and smoother.
+kicksoffs *she* more like THE BEAST!!!!!!!!!111!11!
or even better, Windows 8.1 or 10 which are even faster
I tried it for the laptop, there are no video drivers available for the Toshiba for windows 8
+Jon Doe But Linux kinda sucks so yeah I think he should stay with Vista or 7
+Newbie13XD OMFG NO.
reviewing vista on a heavy used (and invected) installation is very bad... i used vista for years, it was never bad, 7 is better, but i like vista, it looks good (like 7, and better than 8, 8.1and 10)
if you review a system, os or whatever, pls, use a clean system....
Please watch the entire video.
i did, installed toolbar are not a sign of a clean system
Vista is lit🔥🔥🔥🔥. It's fast if you have good specs, also that aero theme is ultra nice. I hope it gets support back
One thing I miss that was on Windows vista or XP, Windows Movie Maker.
tbh vista is alot like windows 7
Windows 7 is heavily based on Vista. :)
True. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.
Windows 7 is a heavily modified and optimized Windows Vista, just like Windows 10 is very similiar to Windows 8.1
I'm pretty sure Windows 98 and Windows 95 work similiarly
windows 7 IS vista.
reason why people thought vista is slow is because most people installed it on old shitty 512mb ram pc's, but on a modern pc it's pretty much exactly the same speed as 7.
I kind of like windows vista atleast it's better than windows 8 or windows 10
+Mabel Pines You must have sooooooo many viruses then because my windows 10 runs beautifully
Mabel Pines oh god, your installation is as i would say dead. you should consider to Clean install Windows 10, that fix all of the problems which could happen in a upgrade.
***** No, Windows 8 and 10 were build from Scratch
i love vista!
*❤💚💙💛😊Thanks!*
It's weird to see Windows Vista in action, like almost everyone I stuck with Windows XP until Windows 7 was released.
This laptop is currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and I use it to do most of my video editing.
That's gotta be nice and slow.
really? that's actually interesting to me. It can't be the best machine you have for the job right?
Bruce Chastain - Make My 2008 MacBook Pro is slightly faster and I also use it for video editing.
RIP Windows Vista 2007-2017...
You powered on your computer. Are you sure you want to do this?
Centrino is not a CPU type. It's just the marketing name for a computer that uses all-Intel hardware (CPU, graphics, wireless/Ethernet).
I've never had any trouble with Windows Vista, even when I used it on a regular basis.
I've worked with Vista for years and quite enjoyed it. Once I made a dual boot with Windows 7, and I wasn't impressed. It felt Windows 7 was just another Service Pack for Windows Vista. I removed the dual boot and skipped Windows 7 entirely.
People think that Windows Vista is bad because they only used SP0&SP1
I work at a local computer repair shop/ refurbisher and we sell Vista machines for $80 to $100 dollars, as more budget oriented machines. We upgrade all systems to SP2, as it fixes pretty much all of the notable Vista issues. I frequently tell people that Vista is not a bad operating system, but that it gets a bad rap for the issues that it has on launch. Just as stable as Win 7, providing it's upgraded to SP2 in my opinion. (We also make sure all Vista laptop systems have a minimum 2GB of RAM).
