There's a story in frost fire ridge that is my favourite love story. I stumbled upon it per accident when I found this orc lying in a pool of blood. He held a note and half a necklace. In the note a woman expresses her love for him and they've arranged to meet so they can go live together. Following the directions of the note, I eventually found this lonely frost wolf hut and in front of it next to a dead fire sits a female orc, frozen to death.
I don't know who they are but I shed a tear when I found her. So unknown and so beautiful. She just sat there waiting for him. Waiting and waiting till the cold of death crept into her body. Only time blizzard actually managed to tell a compelling love story in game.
Its a very sad story... yeah... I hope their spirits atleast found each other
I was heartbroken when I came across this! Definitely on my list for love stories even tho they're somewhat unknown characters.

After reading the novel "Arthas," I can only say that Kael'thas was more of the creepy rich teenager who believed that Jaina should love him because he was royalty. Arthas actually loved her for who she was, but he was immature (a constant theme in that book).

One that I personally liked, Was the Heartwoods Tree I found in Ashenvale. The story may not be long enough to put on the list but here is how it went.
"During the War of the Ancients, two lovers fought surrounded by enemies in Ordil'Aran. As the battle wore on, the female was slain by a demon-tainted blade. The male, disregarding his own life, turned to cradle his lover as she died. Unable to face the endless ages without her at his side, he allowed the demons to slay him. Where they took their last breaths, a tree known as the heartswood grew, a symbol of their undying love"

+Nobbel87 here is a love story for you nobbel and a warning......many many years ago there was a young man named Erickor he was the son of a Germanic chief and wean he died he fell in love with a Valkyrie , however Lord Odin found out and was very angry that one of his rules was broken because for viking Germanic tribes and for any follower of Odin love is the greatest act of evil to ever be commuted . with rage binding him Lord Odin threw Erickor out of Valhalla the young man pleaded with the god and the god replied "show your warrior path and bath in song of death in the blood of hate and the prize you seek shall be yours" at first it seemed like Lord Odin gave him a gift a kindness . However Lord Odin was the god of wisdom and he was as cruel and heartless as he was wise he made the young man immortal and made sure he could not die from wood,fire,metal or anything else the young man would try and try for hardened of years but he would not be able to die in battle and reenter Valhalla which means he would not see his beloved....it is said at in full moons in Norway you can still hear his fury cry of not being able to die. this lesson teaches us not too mess wit Lord Odin or any other of the Norse gods.....good lesson right

Arthas is such a huge part of the Warcraft universe. Without him/the lich king, i doubt that Warcraft would have been so huge as it is. So in my eye's. Arthas and Jaina is, and always will be the number 1.
Arthas was the Anakin of the Warcraft universe, and arguably played the role better as a character.

Huh, can't really fault the numbering.
From a straightforward perspective, Jaina Proudmoore probably has the worst luck. Every single major event turns her into a chew-toy at the end.
1. Liked a guy who turned into a megalomaniac evil overlord.
2. Had to assist in killing her own father.
3. Tried to bring peace - was laughed at, or simply ignored.
4. Turned out Arthas wasn't all bad, but too late to do anything.
5. City she established got nuked by the Horde.
6. Never completed her work at Dalaran, which got promptly nuked. Her teacher dies in the process.
Now she's a genocidal lunatic who's not so different from Garithos or even the Lich King himself.
Break the Cutie doesn't begin to cover it.
Poor girl. She tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it didn't even matter.
For me, number 1 has to go to Rhonin and Vereesa. Those two just had an amazing love story.
#2 made me cry the most. I loved Arthas and Jaina. They were the best, I really wished that they could be together. I really wanted them to be together. When I heard that Arthas turned evil, and changed the Lich King, I cried my hearts out.

Arthas having "resolve and impatience" doesn't make him a bad person in the slightest, it's what he did later on and how he got manipulated IS what makes him evil as it made him into the Lich king, you having a "question mark" to "turned evil" makes no sense as Arthas DID turn evil completely so as he WAS once a good guy and hero.

To be contrarian, I definitely did not cry when Arthas had a bit of post-nut clarity and realized he wasn't ready for kids and marriage. He was childish and impulsive, spoiled and naive. Not a family man. Basically a f*ck boy. He was never "good", or a hero imo. The Lich King was an extension of his personality, sure, he got baited to becoming that, but it's not like he tried to fight it, even a tiny bit.

I do wonder what Jaina and Uther would have had Arthas do instead of culling Stratholme. Surely, a long, slow death under quarantine would have been a far crueller fate for the town. Seems like they just didn't want the burden of killing, even if it was the right thing to do.

She did actually come up with a good idea almost immediately afterwards: remembering what her teacher had said. "If a problem arises from magic, then it has a magical solution". Following that advice, she researched the plague. But by that point Arthas was off in Northrend, and too far gone. It was all she could do to get out of Lordaeron before Arthas came back and murdered everyone.
Seems to me if she'd really loved Arthas she would have either helped him, and then talked him out of following Mal'Ganis. Or she would have put him in an ice block and proposed a better plan. But then again, if Arthas hadn't destroyed Lordaeron WoW couldn't have happened. So Jaina fell to plot-induced cowardice. Albeit not as badly as most other video game love-interests.
or they could scrap everything before Wrath of Lich King, and start WOW at Cataclysm........which......doesn't sound too great......

Blizzard with Thrall would be number 1, they just love him so much.
For as dark as it is what about the relationship between Nefarian (Deathwing) and Lady Synestra? She went to the ends of 2 worlds to empower their clutch and help with the madness of her lover even if it meant her demise. Nefarian though rough in love displayed it just as much if not more. Synestra even took deep wounds that would never heal just to continue the clutch of her loved one. So I think that deserves even a mention.

@@Risen_Star Nah, Tyrande isn't dumb, Illidan's just a simp, and I'm not even using that as an insult, he's practically the poster boy for it in fantasy. Girls generally don't like that type of guy, and rather have one that focus's on their goals(sleeping) rather than on them so much.
Plus Illidan did betray their people and go insane at a point. So, definitely didn't pick the wrong one in the end.

kael was a bit too old for Jaina, and from the novel, it just sounds like he just wants to tap that, not actually have a relationship. As for Maieve and Illidan, I truly hope not. It would be such a crappy way to treat a character like Maiev. She detests this guy, and that hatred shouldn't be treated like a 5 year old hate/love thing.

Bindair Dundat yes there's a quest in warlords of dreanor, in past nagrand, where we met mankrik as a child, who lost his 'girlfriend' olga and wants us to find her. One of the best quests of whole expansion really!

Really nice list. I love how you always put a lot of work into scripting, you manage to retell of those very long stories and still manage to keep the idea and feel of them. Also, I really liked, at the end of each story, how you summarized the idea and moral behind it.
Anyways, I'm kinda sad that you didn't include the story of Rhonin and Vareesa Windrunner. I think it was one of the most well written love stories in recent(ish) lore. I mean they just looked so cute together in Day of the Dragon :D

Sometimes Blizzard's love stories remind me of RedvsBlue relationships. No one really gets a chance to get to spend time to be in love, someone always dies. Tyrande and Malfurion excluded, obviously, though I have never actually felt they have any real chemistry. Illidan's obsessive love seemed more legit than those two, Might just be the voice acting. XD Though Aggra and Thrall are my favorite couple in WoW. That quest line in Cata was fantastic! She not only shows so much love for him, but then YELLS at him to save himself. It was sweet. Aggra is my hero.
But this list is missing one couple... Mankrik and Olgra. And hopefully, those two crazy kids will have a happier ending now that we had a little something to do with them being together.

I'm not sure where this would even fit in the list.. but one of my most favorite love tales is actually in Mists. Suna Silentstrike is a member of Shado Pan.. and her husband is named Lin Silentstrike.. and he gets captured/tortured/and killed.. and when she finds him.. she doesn't take the news so well. But if you have your sound on during that quest.. she cries. and says a dialogue similar to "Lin, oh Lin. Heart of my heart..." It's a pretty big tearjerker, and even though I hate questing to level, I make sure to go through the Shado Pan quests just to experience that one.

Malorne and Elune/Ysera? A love that created Cenarius? I agree on Nr. 1 but this should havr been on.
It's not known much about that relationship,Like a dragon having some fun time with a stag. That is kinda a mystery and Wowpedia says that Elune is his mom,not Ysera. Though i don't think he took it in and it's quite a mystery
Filip Carlsson i actually think that according to the sunwell trilogy, Malfurion says that he believes him to be the son of Elune, not that he is. However it might be mentioned somwhere else that he is; i just thought that malfurion would know, since he is the apprentice of Cenarius :)

One of my greatest wow memories was walking around stormwind and finding a roleplay weeding in a church, I just sat in the back behind 30 other players for 20 minutes while the whole weeding was going on, we all went to a tavern afterwards and danced. Strange experience, but it was definitely a highlight. those were the days..
