When Robin started laughing with the "Dereshishishishi" I had chills, it was terrifying and so cool. She will never forget those last words from Saul, and now she has people she's willing to be a demon for.
I loved this fight, SO MUCH!! From Sanji calling for her, to her convo with Brook about Black Maria's hallucinations, ending with "Yeah, gaslight me with the whole demon narrative, but guess what? You come after my friends, I will be that demon!"
6:00 That conversation, and the nonchalantly way in which they are talking about it, is SO FREAKING SAD! I just want to hug them and tell them everything is going to be ok
Robin needed a powerup and more exposure in general since the pretimeskip pretty much. But what is heartening isn't just the boost in power, but the symbolism behind it and how it perfectly encapsulates Robin's character growth and her opening up to protect who she sees as her friends : the strawhats. Absolutely beautiful how she used what was held against her as the fuel to become stronger for her nakama.
The way the Robin embraces the name people had used to torment her over the years and become that to help her crew is very much like Chopper in fishman island when he becomes a monster for Luffy.
There is a theory that Robin may have learned some new fishman karate, particularly the move she uses here, at the end of Dressrosa when she saw Koala, Sabo and Hack again because of the outfit she was wearing in the one of the flashback scenes of her that were shown during the fight.
Robin has always been good at seeing who people really are since it was so important for her survival since she was so young. She was able to assess the Strawhats quickly from the beginning and won them to her side. "Choppa" Luffy. Now they are family and it is great to see.
21:30 I didn't like it in the anime... It was too padded to the point of losing a lot of its punch. Sure, it was flashy, Buggy would be proud, but way less emotional (not to mention having Demonio Robin struggling for like a minute to give Black Maria the coup de grâce made her look weaker). Here's a dramatization of the difference I felt: * Manga: "Ok, this isn't working, gloves off, bitch! You want to call me a demon? I'll show you a demon" with a murderous smile appearing towards the end. * Anime: "You should not say stuff like that to people, it's not nice, you know? If you continue doing things like that you will end up having to face the consequences, and it will not be nice for you. I'm not saying I'm the one who's going to put you in your place, but I might. I'm not sure, though, but I will try, and maybe by exerting me to my very limit I might have a chance to beat you after a lot of struggle" in a monochord voice.
I didn't see it as a struggle in the anime, I thought she wanted to give her a slow and prolonged pain ahhahahaha. It looked strong and terryfing enough for me in the anime 😂
@@arv9915 Good for you that you liked it. To me it lost most of what made the moment so amazing in the manga. Something similar happened with Sanji vs Queen, though to a lesser extent

I hope everyone enjoys this quick analysis of Robin and Maria's fight!

I'll take symbolic growth and that character growth over powerups any day! I love it!
I really like Robin's dark humor
im not sure if youve seen it but the anime added a filler section into that fight where we saw Brooks illusion aswell as Robins..... and its brutal
I did...it was so sad
im glad you got to experience the torment with us @@thefictionalscholar

That's very true!
I loved how she pulled a Chopper- If its for my friends, I dont mind being a monster
indeed an overlooked fight!
Yey, new formats!
"For my viewers I will even become a demon"
Rooftop, Robin and Killer were my favourite fights in the manga. When you think that Robin is already a great character but then Oda makes her greater
Wano was full of great fights but this was my favorite
Definitely one of mine too!

That's fair hahah I can see the difference in it for sure
