This model is so incredibly real. The work you put into it, the authenticity, the attention to detail... It's beyond words. I wish I could make myself smaller so I could walk around on it!
Sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot the password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me
The hull plating is 0.5mm styrene sheet with every plate cut out individually.. The rest of the super structure including all bulkhead wall are 0.3mm styrene sheet. New all up weight float tests( already been float tested during construction) are going to take place in January (to confirm buoyancy) and she will sail soon dependant on weather.
The well deck, if you mean the bulkheads and the dark red, it should be a lighter brown. I liked the colour so I used Tamiya hull red. As for the funnels, it’s an old British Leyland car colour called Rattan beige. In the UK we can buy it from car accessory shops.
The funnel rivets are decals from a company called Archers fine decals in the USA. They mainly do rivets for model steam trains. The Billings kit is not as easy as a styrene plastic kit, lots of scratch building to get it near anywhere like a model.
Amazing. And you had the historically accurate (at least as far as we believe from paperwork) 3 bladed center propeller. Im doing the 200 scale, and used the same prop.
Hi William Tried to be as accurate as I could with the info I had at the time. The kit didn’t have provision for three props so many hours scratcbuilding right down to the plating.
@@MrKevingoodridge ive been working on a 350 scale stern wreck scratch build, completely scratch built. Im down to just the engines now, then paint and laying debris. But Im having issues with building those.
@@MrKevingoodridge I cant seem to get the scale right. Its either too big, or too small somehome. Ive done the math, and its still not working. William Meyer I remember times like that, getting things to scale can be tiresome. I usually just walked away from it and carried on with something else until the light bulb moment happened. Rather than measure it, can you not re-visualise it with pictures. It adds another perspective.
was wondering how you got to do the centre propeller for R/C? Looks really great, the music score from the movie "RAISE THE TITANIC" great choice for the video.as well as great detail in the ship itself, WOW!! A ABSOFLOGGINGLUTELY a wonderfully built model accurate in every detail, but am NOT 100% sure though that the original TITANIC had something coming off the back of the forward mast like you have on the model, but otherwise a totally accurate model
May I ask, how did you achieve the rivet effect on the hull and funnels, make details such as the lifeboat davits and the cranes, and finally, where did you get the plans and details. Apologies for being very curious. I am bewitched by the detail and look forward on the possibility of making one as well.
There are no rivets on the hull, the funnel rivets are Archers rivet transfers. All of the Davits and crane booms are PE parts included with the base kit I started with. The build page for her is here facebook.com/Kevin-GB-Billings-1144-Titanic-construction-135580420349490/
My God man that is one fine replica you definitely turned that ship of dreams into a dream come true ...awesome job. 😜👍 but got to ask building something as big as this have you ever thought of building one bigger that you & a mate could actually sit in tandem & pilot? I've thought of doing such a project myself but lack the space or a garage to build it in, so my ship of dreams may remain just that, I live on a lake so building something close to this. Would definitely be an attention grabber but even more if it could actually serve as an real boat on certain occasions, was very impressed how you duplicated the stern and may I ask what mat'l you used to fill in gaps of the planking you did on the hull? Its definitely a museum piece and you should stand proud of your hard work. But then again wouldn't you rather sit inside it at the helm of the controls? Very impressive job, my hats off to you sir Congratulations on a job well done.
Mr Hyde In my younger days I started to build the Hachette part works Titanic. I never finished it and had a few issues which were never opened. Issue 27 contained a very thin laminate which was supposed to be used to create the outer shell plating on Titanic’s hull. The laminated sheets were used to re-cover the billings model from the issues I never used and additional purchases from EBay.
Robert Hahns plans were used most of the scratch built elements. Unfortunately I couldn’t obtained a plating plan so countless hours of internet searching and printing my own.
This is probably a silly question. Are the plans of the kit detailed in such a way that a novice builder could attempt to build? Assuming a person was willing to spend the time and patience necessary, is it even something you would recommend for someone with limited/basic model experience?
alan5795 The Billings kit is a plank on frame construction. Out of the box, the kit doesn’t have the details I’ve put on her. With time and patience and a good set of plans showing the plating and all profile views, I wouldn’t say it difficult, just time consuming. The plating alone took me about 250hrs to complete.
Great video, I too am building a 1/144 scratch built titanic. I like how you did the shell plating. What size plasticard did you use for the shell plating and to cover other wood parts? If you don’t mind me asking. Please post further videos of your titanic, would love to see her sailing on water.

Apologies but the plans I have are not for re-publication. The plans are available from Robert Hahns which he has a website for. The plans are copywritten, I’m afraid you’ll have to do some research on the plans.
The basic Billings kit used to go for just over a thousand bucks, but that was a few years ago. Plus he’s added a LOT more custom parts, so one can only guess at the total cost!
Bautista Del Signore Three blade centre propellor on Titanic. See here www.titanic-cad-plans.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Titanic-center-propeller-article.pdf
Centre blade is a three blade, new evidence supports three blade against four blade. Google Mark Chirnside and Titanic three blade propellor. Even RMS Olympic operated with a centre three blade propellor after Titanic loss. All I’ve explained is well documented.
Player Unknown nope, new evidence suggest the opposite actually. Many top titanic historians agree that it would more than likely have been three blades. It’s a toss up however, as no photographs of titanic’s propellers were ever taken, only Olympic.
Rest in Peace Mr. Kevin, Your model will always be remembered by modellers.
