The cards should ONLY be based on the source material, I can take my own photos of the figures. Other than that, it's a nice bonus that McFarlane throws in for collectors that the competition doesn't take into consideration for their unappreciated customers. They really do look nice and clean in a binder.
I used to have mine in hard plastic sleeves, but those get hard to store so I just switched to a binder recently. Put them in with my Yo! Mtv Raps cards. I personally like that they switch back and forth between comic art and photography. I get into both. Keeps it interesting.
Glad you brought this up. I really enjoy the cards and reading bios of character versions I'm not too familiar with. I put them in a binder along with cards I get from my other collecting passion which is Masterpiece Transformers. My ritual is check out the figure, put the card in the binder, empty box is stacked nicely with the others in the closet, and then cross that figure off my want list.😂
I admit that I throw away the cards after reading them since the text at the back of the card is just the same as the one on McFarlane's website or on other figures like the many iterations of Batman. But card lovers will definitely collect these, this reminds me of those X-Men cards that my schoolmates in elementary collect in the early 90's. I think it's better if the text on the cards would change so as to inform people of this character's motivations/objectives.
With the films, they may have to pay extra for the likenesses if the actors. Not sure about the comics. I think the renderings may be due to putting It’s no deal breaker if card or no card, but I keep them in the plastic in the box, unless I bought figure used. I’ll keep the cards near to where figures are displayed. I enjoy to read the bios on the cards though. I store figures in box, and take out for temporary dioramas is why I keep cards in box usually.
I prefer the ones that portray a comic cover, or have a similar style, rather than a photo from the action figure itself. I used to collect cards and store them in a special case, then I switched to binders and I liked it much more, because is a pleasure to stare at them from time to time just by grabbing the binder as if it was a book. Your cards pile looks impressive by the way, way to go!
Hey Bones! I think they are cool and nice little collector items. Cards are such a huge throw-back to the 90's when McFarlane himself exploded on the scene & cards like this were huge in that era as well. Jeez, now I'm in the mood to go dig up my Marvel universe cards. I think I was even lucky enough to find all the holograms. 😁Be well bro!
Yeah i wouldn't throw the cards away... I will place them in binders too. My thoughts about the source material that inspired the figures should be based on the comicbook and for the movie figures it should be based on the actors but that would mean that they have to get permission from the actors and artists whom might ask to get paid royalty. Again that's just a guess.
Great vid 💪 From what I understand he started using figure photography after AT&T did a ton of layoffs at DC comics & Todd couldn’t get art approval fast enough from DC to keep up with his release schedule. That seems to be ironing out these days though as comic art slowly returns to the cards. I suspect, for example, that the John Stewart Endless Winter card’s art was something previously approved for his first release.

All and all the cards are a fun little addition...👍💀
I think the cards would’ve been more sought after if McFarlane had done original artwork for each of the characters cards..
Hell yeah.... That would be interesting...👍💀
