Hi, thanks for this useful information. Just bought the ProTake subscription for iphone X, but seems like no options for the portrait mode and the dual camera mode? When I press the pro mode, it just goes to auto/pro mode? Thats it. May I know why? Thanks
Hello Justin, options for the portrait mode and dual camera mode will be missing if a user has not yet signed up for a subscription, unfortunately. Hello. Protake is the only decent app I am aware of for both iOS and Android that uses LiDAR tech to blur the background and allow you to adjust a simulated aperture. In Protake, you access that in the 'portrait' mode only. And this works best with a phone that supports LiDAR tech like the iPhone 12.
@@MobileCinematics usually filming to upload on TH-cam it’s landscape mode . Hope they can come up with landscape mode in near future . I just downloaded protake apps to try out . I find filmic pro is good apps to use but it’s very easy to accidentally change the setting while filming

@@memorytastechannel234 Hi. There are two different terms you used that require two different solutions. If you want to film in hard light conditions that would normally give you over exposed video, I would use an ND filter. I use Moment's variable ND filter and it works great. @@efrenplaza Ah. I see now why you need 60fps. Well, hope things go well. I would think 8bit would work well because most displays are not yet in 10bit and will automatically render in 8bit. But I'm not certain how that affects quality. Interesting stuff. Take care.
I have been using Protake on my iPhone 11 Pro. I bought a DJI OM 4 and noticed that the video recorded from DJI is much clearer than ProTake. Both using the same settings. Protake’s footage is a lot grainier.
I recently experienced Protake's video become grainy while shooting in Seoul. I realized this later once reviewing my files. It seemed to be a glitch and I couldn't identify the issue. However, once I uninstalled and reinstalled, it cleared up. However, this could be something different than you have experienced.
@@MobileCinematics I didn’t think to uninstall and reinstall. I’ll try it. But yes, I do find ProTake to be glitchy. Sometimes the stabilizer doesn’t work until a few times of reopening the app.

Once Stitch Recorded Footage is enabled, you’ll notice a slight change to the record button in the bottom right-hand corner of the interface. You can now pause and resume in-progress recordings without creating a new file. To end a recording, use a tap and hold gesture on the record button."

@@MobileCinematics Wouldn’t there be some loss of quality. Is there no way it can be done from the app itself. I am hoping I missed something. Thanks for replying!
@@accentontheoff I'm testing it on my Mac right now. I have no issues. So perhaps this is what's going on...to play or edit MOV files, the application must recognize the codecs first. The common codecs for MOV video include MPEG-4, H.264, MPEG-2, WMV V8, AIC, MJPEG, ProRes, Sorenson 1/3, PNG, etc. Sadly, iMovie supports MOV files that use MPEG-4 and H.264 codecs only. If your MOV files contains codecs other than these two, you'll be fail to import MOV to iMovie. That's the reason why iMovie says it supports MOV, but can't open your MOV files for editing. It's all about the codec incompatibility. Therefore, you can either convert MOV to MP4/MOV with the MPEG-4 or H.264 codec or use a video editor compatible with your MOV files.

Hello Justin, options for the portrait mode and dual camera mode will be missing if a user has not yet signed up for a subscription, unfortunately. I would make sure that the subscription has been registered once you have signed up. If it still isn't working, I would make sure your iOS as well as the Protake app are up-to-date then 'power cycle' your phone (turn off then on). If there is still an issue, you may have to contact the Protake app producers for specific help because from that point there isn't another method for me to help. Hope it works out soon!
@@MobileCinematics hi, thanks for this. Unfortunately, I have done all of those and it is still not available. I cant also seem to find their email or how to be able to contact them 😞. May I just ask if you know how to contact them? Thanks
@@justinwong7301 Wow. That seems rather frustrating. It also seems that they haven't made themselves easy to contact. The best options I can see are to go to your app store, locate Protake and scroll to "Ratings & Reviews". There you will have two options. 1.) Write a review with your issue and ask for help. And 2.) Click "App Support", but I had a connection issue with this option.
@@MobileCinematics seems like options are pretty limited. Anyway, thanks very much and continue with all of the great content mate 😊
@@justinwong7301 I can't seem to find any way of contacting them. The app is made by Blink Academy Ltd and they may be a Chinese company from what I've uncovered. This lack of customer service availability has changed my ideas about recommending this app without warning that customer support options are seemingly nonexistent. I am sorry that I couldn't be of more help.
I see protake had option for blurry background . Is it only available in portrait mode ?
@@memorytastechannel234 Maybe there is some confusion with the word "Portrait." It is possible to film in landscape with Protake's protrat mode? It is just the name they gave that function. What phone do you have, and does it support LiDAR?
@@MobileCinematics it does work for landscape. I have iPhone 11 . I was testing it out this morning and it works . But if you make movement it take about 2 seconds to readjust and blurr the background . I am using iPhone to make food videos . Blurr background is a big advantage to make cinematic feel. I agree the interface is better than filmic pro. I will film this weekend and see how it turns out . Do you have any suggestion for over light exposure ? I use LiteChaser ND filter to eliminate glare . But light exposure is still a big issue . Maybe I am not using filmic pro properly
@@memorytastechannel234 Hi. There are two different terms you used that require two different solutions. If you want to film in hard light conditions that would normally give you over exposed video, I would use an ND filter. I use Moment's variable ND filter and it works great. However, if you want to minimize glare, which is the reflect you see on glass or water, I would use a polarizer. Moment also makes these. You can view a video hhere: th-cam.com/video/t1BBlE0d-8I/w-d-xo.html. I hoe that helps a little ^^

Does Filmic have portrait video recording?
Hi Mark. Filmic Pro does not have the portrait option for video that Protake does which uses lidar tech to simulate a shallow depth of field. In my experience, no app has all the bells ans whistles. One app will be better suited to different people based on their needs and wants. I have several and use them in different situations.
@@MobileCinematics thank you so much!
Can Protake shoot at 10bit, 4k, 60fps and log? Thanks!
Hi Efren. It seems that if you are an iPhone user, you will need the iPhone 12 to shoot at 10-bit. My iPhone 11 Pro does not have that function. As for non-iOS. I am not certain. However, it seems that with an iPhone 12 you can do this all. Perhaps the following video with shed more light on your question. th-cam.com/video/7NEMroOdKJM/w-d-xo.html
@@MobileCinematics I got an iphone 12 pro max but my issue with using the iphone camera is transferring my files to my windows pc. I don't have an apple computer. It takes a long time to upload these files to iCloud then download them to my pc on top of that you have to pay for extra storage. In Filmic pro all you need to use is iTunes. Why can't they do that? The problem with filmic pro it can't shoot at 10bit, 4k, 60fps. At 8bit it can shoot at that resolution and frame rate but there's no log profile. So I'm looking for an app that have those capabilities.
@@efrenplaza That's unfortunate. Well, I'm assuming you can film in 30fps with the other settings. Perhaps we'll have to wait for an update from Filmic Pro to catch up with user needs. As for transferring files, I expect you've already searched the internet for answers and have not found a solution. But on the off chance you missed something, perhaps this video offering 4 solutions will help. Otherwise, I wish I could have been of more help. Good luck to you! th-cam.com/video/JReay6n8aaQ/w-d-xo.html
@@MobileCinematics I'm testing right now filmic pro's 8bit, 4k, 60fps and so far it's seem to be okay even without the log profile. I'm color grading it with Davinci Resolve studio 17 with their HDR. I'm new to this, I'm just trying to get all the info I can get. 60fps is the key for me because that's the best setting for guitar players to minimize the blur on the fingers. I did it with the iPhone camera app. Apple just want to control everything. Anyway thanks for your information. You've been so kind!
Video recording pause and resume capability?
Yes. "With FiLMiC Pro, you can enable the Stitch feature to make it possible to pause and resume in-progress recordings. Simply tap the settings gear, select Device, and enable the Stitch Recorded Footage switch. Such a feature makes it easy to shoot one continuous video, while incorporating creative jump cuts within the recording.
Once Stitch Recorded Footage is enabled, you’ll notice a slight change to the record button in the bottom right-hand corner of the interface. You can now pause and resume in-progress recordings without creating a new file. To end a recording, use a tap and hold gesture on the record button."
@@MobileCinematics Thank you!!
Sorry if this is a tad out of context but I am finding that Filmic Pro exports to .mov and iMovie doesn’t open .mov. Is there any workaround. Three don’t seem to be many videos about the formats all these apps use. Would massively appreciate any help. Thanks!
One option is to use a free converter like (Mpeg streamclip) to change your .mov file to another more friendly file for iMovie.
@@MobileCinematics Just to be clear you are using iMovie on the Mac and it is able to open a .mov file created out of Filmic Pro?
Yes to the thing about codecs.
Thanks for the information!!
You're Welcome! 😁
Woow that is just not good for filmic pro but I think pro take is a good choice for me.
Thank you
Thanks, as always, Peter. Let me know if you try out any of these apps if you haven't already.
Dope! I like Filmic Pro and also Beastcam app would be great if you make a video on that one to!! Gonna check out Protake 👍🏼
Thanks for your thoughts on Beastcam. Will take a more in-depth look at it. May take your advice and post a tutorial and comparison video on it.

Yes. Figured that out some time after making this video. It's practically impossible to contact them. Like the product but not the lack of service and contact that comes with it.
