Great stuff 👍 You can economically build you own “Bob” by using an old belt to strap an old pillow to a tree, fence post, or whatever you have access to. This will protect your canes finish and feel more realistic.

Gus, Very good. I have been in the empty-handed arts (Tae Kwon Do and Combat Tai Chi) for over 40 years and the cane for about 3 and a half years. I have seen many podcasts by highly skilled Cane Instructors. You are the first one that practices like I do. You use common sense and combine cane moves with empty-handed techniques. I thought I was the only Maverick that did that ! Good show !

Cane exercise would be a great idea along with some warmups. Thanks Gus !

"Combat"? Gimme break. As an old guy who uses a cane while walking my dog, I'm not into combat, but just a bit more security.

Gus, well done, however some folks have never been upclose and personal with evil. That needs to be understood so they don't wet their psnts.
    Thanks again,

Liked this video a lot. I have a cane and practice with it One of the things I've noticed is the trainers tend to be large people. I'm only 5'5". My arm length and cane length is shorter than most. Are there special techniques that small sized people should be practicing?

    • @gusgates7401

Hi Jim thank you for your question. I try to give practical exercises that a smaller person can do. So that they can have more success with their cane. You an also check out the first cane video i thing you will find it useful. I will be making more videos addressing smaller people and how you can be successful with the cane and self-defense.

Cane instructors are always young, beefy, athletic males whom no attacker would ever dream of targeting. That's the YT reality.
