IMO, by the time anyone gets to L3 (and paying for things like Reaktor modular or Monark), I'd move into the u-he synths like Repro or Dive - they are beast mode analog and FM VSTs, and the interfaces are extraordinarily fast and easy to play with in terms of sound control. The out of the box presets really give anyone a quick sense of hwo to use said controls.
