The Oyashio-class submarine sail into port Yokosuka

The Oyashio-class submarine is a class of conventionally powered submarines operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. With a renewed hull structure and hull shape, it incorporates many new features such as improved stealth and the installation of a new type of sonar, and has been described as a milestone in the development of conventional submarines. Eleven vessels were built between fiscal years 1993 and 2003 under the 2003, 2008, and 2013 Mid-Term Defense Programs. The project number is S130.
