And you're so right about Gettysburg! I went there as a 7th grade student and I could not shake the heavy feeling as soon as I stepped foot on the property. I don't believe in ghosts at all, but it genuinely felt like those men were still there. - Released in 2000; directed by Boaz Yakin; written by Gregory Allen Howard. - Coach Yoast actually had three other daughters in real life, but they decided to focus on Sheryl, because she did like attending the game. While the real Bill Yoast was upset about this, his other daughters didn't mind. Sadly, the real Sheryl Yoast died in 1996 at the age of 34 from an undetected heart condition. - To get a better shot at authenticity, Boaz Yakin used two real-life high school referees from Atlanta, including the one who played the crooked referee. - Kip Pardue (Ronnie "Sunshine" Bass) did play high school and college football in real life, at Yale. He played defensive back at Dunwoody High School in Atlanta, and center field on the high school baseball team. - Ethan Suplee (Louie Lastik) also co-starred with Denzel Washington in "John Q" and "Unstoppable." - The Perry High School (Perry, Georgia) marching band was chosen to be the marching band in the movie, largely because their colors were the same. They were given a semi-truck trailer as a thank you. The training camp scenes were filmed at Berry College, also in Georgia. - Several characters were added to the film for dramatic purposes, and weren't real. Among them were Ray Budds, Alan Bosley and his dad, and Coach Tyrell. - Denzel Washington turned down a role in "Pay It Forward" to do this film instead. - Originally, there was more profanity in the script, but Walt Disney Pictures asked producer Jerry Bruckheimer to tone it down. I believe this is one of the first (if not *the* first) PG-13 movies released by Walt Disney Pictures.
So you have seen two of the players on the team in movies on the channel before: Gary Bertier played by Ryan Hurst you saw him in Saving Private Ryan he is the guy who knew Private Ryan and told Tom Hanks what town to go to to find him.
