The Dungeon Master's Guide - written in original High Gygaxian. No other rpg tome has ever come close to anything as good as this and likely never will. Completely agree about both alignments and alignment languages. Got into D&D around 1980 as well so definitely shared experiences. Tossed out psionics completely after trying them once. Interesting that the giant monster listing in the back introduces the term THAC0 and never explained how it worked! haha
While a fair share of my love for the core three AD&D books is nostalgia, the DMG does stand tall for depth and breadth of knowledge both for the game and in general. Gary Gygax introduced me to a plethora of new words, ideas, and a bit of wisdom.
Some of us had our own DMG eventually. The DM didn't care that we had it but we weren't allowed to use it during play unless he told us to look something up.
@@page121tabletoproleplaying4 A lot of your DMing ideas align with my own. For example, I also think that alignment is paramount for the game, even if alignment languages are similar (and I don't use them in my campaign).
Might be cool for you to dial up and roll a random dungeon using the DMG tables. Add some monsters to your room rolls and see what it turns out as. Just a thought. Like the Old Grognard, I've also got some old school videos that you might want to look at too... if you would. Thnx! 👍
The "this had better work" cartoon is a riff on a Fafhrd and Gray Mouser. I always loved that one.

IMO, it's the Greatest Game Book Evar! I've got hundreds of hours of analysis video on the various sections of the DMG on The Okay Grognard Show. 🙂
I can read this today and learn something new. The book of books. I have the same book, and love it to this day.
2 years ago i need demon for a B/X game and took out the AD&D DMG and rolled one up. QED.
Very useful for any edition of the game, or even any fantasy RPG, not just D&D.
Good vids, you should film and maybe stream your sessions. I always enjoy seeing how people do their own tabletops
I *love* the 1e AD&D DMG. It's so dense with invaluable info.
I agree completely!

nice review - look forward to seeing your Unearthed Arcana review.
It's in final edit. Will be out a a little over a week.
Ahh... Ignore my question on your Player's Handbook video. Your channel name comes from the Dungeon Master's Guide. 🙂

I'll take a look.
I can't imagine a successful party that turns on each other. Never really had that happen.
It happened a lot in the early days, unfortunately. Almost put me off the game.
If you don't use psionics then what do you do with Illithids and others like Demons and Devil's that have that as powers?
We give them the same powers but have them based on magic rather than psionic powers. Some powers, like psionic Invisibility, we don't use at all.
Gigity.
