Andy Summers Tribute Telecaster® guitar | Fender
/ fender - เพลง
I think some people are missing the point about this particular guitar. It's an extremly well made replica of Andy Summers guitar. It sure has fantastic tone and in the hands of a capable player the guitar does the talking. Yes its expensive but what else would you expect? After all it is a collectable. I'm going to build the 'Mule' prototype displyed near the end of the clip. Like the man says, Killer sounding guitar.
he keeps turning the gain up and then never playing it...
Both pickups together sounds heavenly. Dream sound!
I remember 10 years ago when I used to smoke joints and watch these Mike Eldred videos, I really liked the chubby bluesy man with the cool guitars, at that time we didn't have a zillion youtube guitar channels...Bring Mike Eldred Back (BMEB)
I have played a few of the Custom Shop Fender guitars and they are really amazing guitars. The Tribute guitars are not just phoney baloney, good time charlie, plastic bananna copies of the artist's guitar...they are well researched exact replicas. The process is very labor intensive. I do a bit of relicing myself but it's mostly just cosmetic stuff. The Fender guys take it to a whole new level.
Old fender videos were cool man
I love how you can present a freaking Andy Summers reissue, $9000 guitar and not know what was done on it by whom and show how it can play boogie woogie...
That is an Epic tone monster. That guitar can do it all. Love it!
Too bad it cost ten grand.
What's really cool and neat about this is it's really cool and neat. It sounds really cool and neat and looks really kinda cool and neat, smells really neat and cool, feels kinda cool, and neat, oh and it's just really cool. And neat. Gee thanks Fenderman, you're kinda really cool and neat yourself.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account?
I was dumb forgot the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Vance Joaquin instablaster =)
Don't forget, and ummmm, and ummmm
crisp, shimmery, sparkling. Like a fine wine.
it sounds like a tele, strat, les paul, es 335, some acoustic hybrid..amazing.
Isn't anybody curious about who was the person who performed those mods back in the 70s?
I am. But I have a feeling that Fender does not want to figure out just that...
I don’t see why. Everybody was doing that stuff to old Fenders back in the 70s because you could find them cheaper than new guitars. Aftermarket brass parts for Fenders and Gibsons were an especially popular thing in the 70s, there would be ads to send away for stuff like that in the backs of all the guitar magazines and even Rolling Stone. If this wasn’t Andy Summers’s guitar it would be just another vintage Tele that didn’t survive the 70s/80s to most collectors.
A student of Andy Summers, did the mods🎸he bought it from that student
If you want a Andy Summers guitar, you go and buy a stock 1963 Fender Telecaster, and then modify it the same way as Andy Summers did.Much cheaper than a Custom Shop ;-)
If you find a 1963 Tele less than the retail price of this let me know. Plus Andy didn't mod it.
still my favourite guitar of all time
I love teles and I always love when people hotrod them with humbuckers etc, but you have to love the distortion effect in the guitar, so handy.
I'm in love with this guitar
I love absolutley everything about this Tele
Thanks for posting this vid, it was great to listen to and learn about all the controls, many sweet sounding tones out of this guitar.
Super-Quack!
One of the best O-O-P sounds I've ever heard.
Great product; great education!
I want that AX! Good job custom-shop, very very nice. So versatile. So many sounds and options.
Andy Summers is one great friggin guitarist!
This is the Only Tribute Guitar Ive been Impressed with ...Its Awesome
this is one of my favorite custom shop guitars ever. i hope i can afford one someday!
The clever person who did the original modifications deserves credit. Doesn't sound like the work of a new student.
So many sounds!!! Dig that
Nice chops
This is my dream Tele. I had a custom Tele with a humbucker in the neck, in was all black and I let it go. I will get one of these someday.
I had this rant like 4 years ago when they released it and I totally agree with you!
Boy that is a lovely guitar !!!!!
beautiful!
I use my tele for everything. The most versatile thing on the planet!.
Great video. thanks.
Sounds really nice!
It's really cool.
that's a wicked cool Tele - great video Mike!
Ugh, I can't reply properly.
Bro below me in the comments, $200 in 1963 is around the equivalent of $1500 today. There's not nearly as large a discrepancy in price as you think.
Didn't Summers buy the guitar from "the student" in the 70's not 1963?. Dollar figure will be less than $1500
DEBERIAN VOLVERLA HACER EN ESTOS DIAS ES INCREIBLE! ESA GTR
Having owned an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II and a Gibson Les Paul studio I can assure you that indeed the difference is substantial both in quality and also in sound (although not as dramatic as it isn't that much more expensive).
I'm hearing Ten Years Gone by Zeppelin and Bad Moon Rising by CCR. Pretty cool!!!
Beautiful Guitar !💗👍😍
Too bad it cost ten grand.
nice sound
Love it ...
great guitar!
You nailed it. I did a relic job on one of my cheap Strats. Stupidest thing I ever did to a guitar. I ended up restoring the guitar nicely so I rectified that. But there's something wrong with paying top dollar for something worn out.
dude is a savage guitar player.
good old annie summers 😊she was a right gunslinger
Great video!
I want that guitar Andy!!!!!
JB
I got one hahah love it
Wow! That's what I call informative.
I am the same way. I think that the larger body of the Telecaster gives it more sustain and depth. It is also is more versatile. Even with less pickups. I still love to have my Strat around, but if I have to chose, it's the Telecaster all that way!
I'd love one of those without the simulated wear and tear or cracked bridge... I had a '62 Custom RI but with a rosewood fretboard and wish I'd never parted w/it. I modded it by putting in a 5-way strat selector switch and made it go out-of-phase via one of the settings rather than drill a hole in the faceplate for a switch.
o man what a great guitar
perfect, couldnt be more accurate
yeah, he certianly likes his blues runs!
cool thanks a lot mate :)
those out of phase sounds are so awesome
just a shame he didn't crank the pre-amp because of the camera mic
still, great video and thanks for the insight on the production of this guitar
X
thats awesome how they "relic" the guitar
That preamp thing is great. If I ever get a tube amp that will be put into my guitar.
no doubt!
Want that mule
GOOD!!!!!
im sure andy said in his biography that he had a problem with the original pickups - one or both of them had died - lost its magnetic charge - it was replaced by Seymour Duncan - still great sounding guitar - nearest i'll get is a cv custom squier
Who´d want a beat up instrument like this which isn´t really beat up - just a false used finish. Surely all the chips, blemishes and scratches which your guitar accumulates over the years makes it special in its own right.
yeah, its kinda like a woman who wants plastic surgery 'cause she's not ugly enough yet....
+Tye Cook lmao :D
The FCS glory days with Mike.
Mine has the usual single coil and the a emg humbucker in the stall, the stall is black and pickguard black also the volume button plate aswell the buttons are black. the guitar is Purple/blue and have got black stripes instead of the white in this
@surfco
Agree! A semi hollow BLUESBOY by G&L (The Real Fender), with a mini toggle. Nice presentation by Mike Eldred.
@MrSuperCollider It's probably already been pointed out, but "Message in a Box" is the official Police box set and has been available for many years. Fender is just providing a copy with each guitar.
If i remember right, Summers didn't even buy his Telecaster. It was a gift from a student I believe
That is right
A student gave him that guitar with all the modification
No he bought it, read his book
His student either had the wiring done or did it himself. It is unknown. It is not as elaborate as suggested. More unique than anything else. Andy got it that way. Dennis Galuszka was intended to be the master builder for the entire 250 that were made. Fender executives were hot to get the guitar out while The Police had their 2-year reunion tour. The batch was then split up between all of the Custom Shop builders with Dennis being "manager" over it. It was not a great time at Fender. Dennis in frustration and being PO'd about this build and other things, got his helicopter license as he was at his wits end. Thankfully Fender would go on to shake things up and Dennis stayed. But if you were to look at any pictures of the Tele's and compare them, the relic process is very different between the artists. VS Clapton's Blackie for example that were cloned exactly to the original. Each builder had the liberty to relic the Summer's Tele to their liking. You can see this if you compare a Todd Krause to a John Cruz to a Stephen Stern, etc. All are different. When Andy got the Tele it had its original tuners and its original chrome compensated bridge. Around the time when The Police formed Andy would go on to change the saddle setup on the compensated bridge from 3 to 6. He also installed the Schaller tuners and added an additional string tree. The biggest change he did was to the Tele's infamous bridge. Solid brass and saddles. He made this change in late January early February of 1979. It's first gig with the brass bridge was The Police performance at Hatfield Polytechnic. 21.2.79. This performance is on YT. Also, before the recording of Reggatta de Blanc. IMHO this changed and softened The Police sound and made songs like "Bring on the Night" what it is. It allowed Andy to lay his hand flat against the guitar and by removing the lip of a compensated bridge allowed him to play finger style more easily. The cloned Dakota Strats has boosters installed in them as did Andy's original 61. Now there is a switch on the back where Andy can use a guitar pick to adjust it. On his original Tele Andy has removed the phase switch and had the booster switch moved further back on the switch plate bracket. He last used the Tele in public in the late 90's. The Tele now sadly sits collecting dust at Andy's studio in Venice CA. However, Andy still uses and loves the 2 Dakota clone Strats and used both for his recent tour and with his Police cover band "Call The Police. It is also why the clone Tele did not get used as much as Fender had hoped during the reunion tour. Andy loved the cloned Strats more and the Tele got regulated to a few tunes. There are several great videos of Andy with Kevin Coyne with the Tele, pre-Police. You can see how it "was." There is also a great video here on YT from LA Sound Design showcasing Police tunes through a clone Tele, unlike here.
I bought a Gibson 61' reissue last year and it sounded fierce right out of the shipping box, but I know the more I play it and the ware and dings only add character and tonality that will make my Gibby sound fiercer and ultimately wicked!! I will probably get one of these guitars, if their still available, simply because I like the tone, even with the lame demo. I'm a big fan of the Police and would love to own a small, all be it reproduction, piece of that legacy. Play on my fellow axe people
Great history lesson Mike ! Thank You !
Would the new Aerodyne Telecaster with the Humbucker be a close reproduction and was Andy's Guitar an influence ?
It’s a guitar I’d like to have, but I’d miss having the vintage sized neck pick up.
@racpa5 no these switches were a result of lots of players modding their guitars in the 70s. This is a left-over of that era and makes it even cooler that it has it's own character. This is basically the only guitar of it's kind. The closest thing Fender has now stock is the S-1 switching system, and that's more for pick-up combinations.
@racpa5 No a standard tele doesnt. But the baja telecaster has an out of phase switch that you could check out.
what you are saying is absolutely true...fender tries to sell these "road worn" models for as much if not more than a standard version but try to sell a guitar store your DAMAGED goods and they will haggle with you all day. I know this for a fact, I brought in my '69 fender P-bass and the "ultra-cool" sales rep told me that the paint looked like it was done in a dusty room...love the analogy to the jeans.
cool
I'm a Gibson man, I like Tellies but I don't like the percusive way most people play them. They have a beautiful tone - let the notes ring! Let your guitar sing!
An album with ALL the Police music!?!?!? Now i HAVE to get it! :D
@paulstearne from talking with some very exclusive luthiers i know that very well made guitars are very strong but very sensitive to changes even subtle ones.
My acoustic cracked from humidity changes (which i common on unfinished guitars)
and it most defiantly lost alot of its "ring" you used to feel the whole guitar come alive and vibrate when you played it. Now it doesn't, although saying that it still sounds great.
I HAVE IT ITS A REALY NICE GITARRE
Incredibly faithful reproduction once again from the Custom Shop.
Now where can I get replica picks? How about a replica Sting and Stew too!
All tele's should have a neck humbucker, they make a good guitar great
+toxicmartoc I put a paf Humbucker in the neck and Champtone electronics, now one of my favorite guitars.Mine is a 2001 I bought off ebay for $450.00, american made.
If it's a paf that's the pick up I'd want ....I cant stand fender wide range humbuckers
@@imannonymous7707 you cant stand them? You mean the reissues?? Cuz the vintage ones with the cunife pole pieces are amazing! I cant imagine anyone not liking them. Seth lover can't make a bad pick up lol
i always go ore out of a strat, but i could depend on the music. what style do you mostly play?
It's interesting to get the tricks of artist gear and of course build it's own custom guitar with the specifications delivered. The sound is inside the man who play you can put a 200$ tele in hands of Andy Summers the sound will be there.
Andy was one of the first guitarist that inspired me to play the guitar. How much is the guitar? and how much does it cost to purchase it?
This just shows you, when Andy Summer, bought this guitar it was a stock Fender,
but because it was used by Andy in Police then its a classic, and if you want one of these you have to pay mega buck at the Customshop, The moral of the story is you get a a great guitar if you buy a stock American guitar Tele or Strat
Wait I thought they said when he bought it all the mod's were already done. Its clearly the combination of it being Andy Summers guitar but also being the most versatile guitar they offer (at least one of the most)
@DSzogger Actually the worn look contributes to that.
@jolliffeiscool depends what you play it through.. the more the distortion the less you'll feel the difference in the materials. however, the more expensive guitar should last longer til it fails mechanically.. buy what you can afford and worry about playing. btw, don't ever neglect your amp.. it's at least equally important for a good tone!
This first Guitar is HOT!
That's how this guy is in every demo. He's a quack...
@paulstearne with respect, no luthier would ever put body cracks in guitars. finish cracks are debatable as some people think that even using a thick lacquered finish effects the tone of a well made instrument. hence brands like PRS not doing it.
I wasnt talking about minor scratches if you reread my post im pretty sure i made that clear. Some people believe that electric guitar bodies have no effect on the tone and function of the thing....
Right on. This guy uses the same exact lick in every video he does as well...
The brass saddles and plate I can understand - but given that the bridge pickup is mounted directly into the wood, why is he saying that the broken plate adds to the sound of the pickup?
Kool◇¿.1st mod would be moving the preamp switch away from the strings😎🎱☮🔊🖖👍
"Hey, come on down and purchase a telecaster that Fender never thought to make."
1:25 says it all.
Then in the future it wouldn't be worth nothing do to over production
yes everything you see their
Yeah, if Gibson ES-335's were priced more affordable I'd definitely buy one.
ah ok thanks for the advice
well i have a line 6 spider 3 75 watt amp
but i just don't want to get a squier and think wow fenders are so much better for a bit more money
In his book I think I remember Andy saying he loved his Tele, but at some point he leaned it up against something like a boiler tank or something and it fucked up the pickups. He tried to have it fixed but it was never the same.
+Dick The Birthday Boy .are you sure?
Yes. One Train Later, pg.305
