Is Clapton allowed to talk about his experience yet, on TH-cam? Not sure they let you stay monetized and talk about negative effects of the rhymes-with-sax. They could probably do a spaces thing on “X”.

I believe Slowhand is like a fine wine. He had the energy and the excitement of his youth with the Bluesbreakers and Cream but his songwriting and singing has taken a new meaning after all his life experiences. I agree those two bands were his best period but he is one of the most influential musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries. I adore Slowhand; you have to 🎸🥰

Funny thing is, if andy would’ve bought that second les paul maybe eric would have used something different to record the bluesbreakers album, and those 59 les pauls would not be so valuable today as they are. Clapton gave those particular year and model guitars the meaning and the mystique they have currently just with that record.

Sonically I like to think of Andy and Edge of U2 as coming from the same place - it is almost "Electronic Music" - partly of course because there is almost no other harmonic or melodic detail coming from the rest of the group - there's Sting's vocal (and Bono's vocal in the comparison)...,and that's it...,Hendrix obviously started this...,what the guitar+effects does is so far beyond the standard guitar sound that you start to think "this is not guitar...,this is soundscape"

    The Beatles
Interesting how Andy says you’d never see the four of them at once by the time he was performing regularly
whereas Mick Jagger said they in the early days they were never to be seen without each other

andy was so good with the police ! but later he should never do jazz fusion ! lol ! ok he won a lot of money with police and he can do all that he wants ! but andy was not a soloist its a real fact ! but the guitar part on message in the bottle (a sting song ) was sooooo great ! and still great !

Andy's transition from jazz to rock has given him a certain musical sensibility that is geared more towards taste and minimalism instead of flash and volume. His guitar playing makes the Police's sound one of a kind..his tones are pristine and delicate. He is truly one of the best. As for Eric, well, one of the first guitar heroes. Love them both.

The jazz element gave him a lot more in common with Sting compared with Stewart. What’s surprising is that Sting hasn’t continued working with Andy throughout the last 40 years

What would’ve happened if Clapton never bought that Les Paul? Never created the so-called Beano tone?
Never played a Les Paul? Would all the Les Paul mania ever happen?

The Beatles were part of the British Invasion. The Police made it on their own. That's the biggest and best difference.

They may not have created the same sound as The Beatles however The Police changed the way musicians wrote songs. The Beatles popularised the minor Plagal cadence and The Police popularised add 9 chords. Andy brought Jazz chords into the pop and rock idiom. He wasn't the first to do so as Prog bands had been doing this stuff in the 70's, however The Police were known as a pop band really. Not only that but Sting is a very talented bass player and he would change chords by playing different bass notes over the top of what Andy did.

yeah...that's not how I remember it either. I couldn't get into the Police. Their sound was unique, and nothing like the Beatles. Only later was I able to appreciate their body of work. I still can't stand Roxanne tho.

Truth, the Police are far superior than the Beatles could ever be. You cannot even compare, the trio has more talent than all the others !

I can relate, Andy. I sold an ANCIENT (in 1975) 345 cheap to a friend because there was a short somewhere and it was beyond my 20 year old brain, it was just broken to me. Get one that works.
