Hello from the Bahamas Brian, hope all is well. I have a question, I have the soundcraft signature 22mtk as you do.Am planning on purchasing a new desktop computer with windows 11 pro installed but am a bit worried because I don't see and drivers for that operating system at soundcraft website. Presently the laptop that am using has windows 10 installed. Can you please let me know if the mixer we are using will recognize windows 11 operating system. Thanks bro and all the best to you.
Great video Brian. I’m using Ableton and an MTK. I’ve recently started using Sonarworks Sound ID reference and struggling to use it effectively when I am running audio through my MTK desk in usb returns as it’s normally just placed on the master channel output. Any ideas?
Sup dude, is there anyway of routing midi thru the console and inputing midi from a hardware synth that has a usb connection without the use of midi cables as there doesn't seem to be midi in/outputs on the console??
Reif, I’m glad you are willing to reconsider your decision to sell. This console is magnificent and is well worth putting in the effort to master it. I am here to help with any issues you may encounter. Email: bbuck822@gmail.com
How do I ungroup the analogue channels? Like when I put a kick on channel 1 (analogue 1) of the console then the output 1 and 2, it distorts when I assign a snare on channel 2 (analogue 2) of the same output of 1 and 2. How do I ungroup them??
Couple of thing to try here: 1) Send Kick to Subgroup 1/2 and Snare to Subgroup 3/4. 2) But I would suggest checking your gain coming into the console. Adding a Snare shouldn't cause the issues you are describing unless the signal is too hot inside your DAW. Definitely worth checking out. 3) Just route the snare into Analogue 2 and see what happens - no kick, just snare. If you get distorting even without the kick in the signal chain then the issue is definitely your snare being too hot.
@@BrianBuckalew Hey Brian, thank you for your response. I've since found out that this issue is actually related to the development of my DAW. I use FL studio and FL does not give you any option to choose individual mono outputs, which is extremely bizarre. I've tried the panning method, but there would be some issues. So I've adopted Ableton, which does give you exterior mono out options.
Thank you so much for your video!!! Although there are two things I don’t understand : with the USB 14 track we get the sound numerically. If I want to get the sound out of the analogue outputs, like AUX, do I need an intermediate device ? Also, I am wondering if it is possible to re-record a sample post-mixer into Ableton ? I tried to follow your instructions but I get no sound on Ableton in the selected channel.
You should not need additional hardware for this type of setup. I have a demo version of Ableton which only allows for limited connectivity. Based on what I know from my experience with the console I would say yes to your second question. I just have no way of explaining to you how to route it properly other than to say you will need to check the I/O settings in Ableton to make sure all channels are active. Also, make sure USB RTN is not turned on for the channel you are connecting your device to unless it is a sample being played from your DAW, in which case you will want to have USB RTN enabled for that channel.
Hey man Thanks for making these videos! I have a small problem with my 12MTK. When I send a signal through any channel, the master return signal louder in the left channel. I tried sending a mono signal through analog 1, I tried sending a mono signal through a stereo channel too. Still the master return to DAW louder in left. It’s like panned to left channel a bit. I tested 2 12MTK mixers and both are giving same results. Is it happening in 22MTK? Is it a normal thing? I’m confused!
A great vid as usual, Brian. Very well done. I have a question about EQing on this mixer. On the HMF and LMF sweep knobs on each channel, what frequencies do the tick marks represent? For example, the LMF sweep knob starts at 80Hz, the mid point is 400Hz, and max is 2kHz; however, there are 4 tick marks between each of these points. What are these frequencies? Same for the HMF knob. What is the frequency of each tick mark? I've looked all over the internet for this info and can't find it. Any thoughts?
Thank you very much. I definitely appreciate you watching and leaving your kind words. In regards to your question I have done a Waves Q-Capture and Q-Clone test on the LMF and HMF bands and these are the approximate frequencies. Please note these are only approximates. LMF 80 Hz 100 Hz 130 Hz 220 Hz 325 Hz 400 Hz 600 Hz 900 Hz 1.2 kHz 1.8 kHz 2 kHz HMF 400 Hz 500 Hz 750 Hz 1 kHz 1.5 kHz 2 kHz 3 k 4 k 6 k 7.5 k 8 kHz
@@BrianBuckalew Wow! That’s awesome, Brian. I can’t believe Soundcraft didn’t feel it was important enough to provide this info in their user manual. Tick marks on an EQ knob is stupid enough, but to not identify what the values of the ticks are relegates them to nothing more than eye candy, in my opinion. And approximate is okay with me… it’s way better than no frequency values at all. I’d sure like to see you do a video of how you figure this out. Thanks again bro, I appreciate your help.
Hey Tom! I actually was going to make a video to show the process involved, but thought it would be better to just show the results - then you asked for a video to show how I got these results, so here you go: th-cam.com/video/h7aF0sdmtTo/w-d-xo.html
Hi Brian, first of all thanks for your video, it's really helpful :) Just a little question, I have a problem to setup my Soundcraft. Basically I would like to jam with my console, I would like to print separately the different channels on Ableton (as an exemple the kick goes to channel 1, the clap on channel 2, etc). I managed to send my audios from Ableton through the console but I don't know how to send back into Ableton :( It only send me back the master (channel 13/14), I have to say I'm using the 12MTK but I guess it's the same process than the 22MTK. Is it possible to do that or do I have to use the AUX to go into an external audio card ? Many thanks in advance, I hope I'll find the way to fix that, it would be so helpful :)
I have the same problem with a signature 10.. Only chanels 1 & 2 are going into the computer and in ableton, and i dont know how to send back to ableton all the other chanels..
You have to create a new stereo audio track with Analogue 13/14 as the input. This is the "tape return" track from the console. You can only do 1 stereo paired channel at a time as there is but one console tape return channel in this console. So your process would be to either print stereo pairs back from the console one at a time or print the entire mix back through the console.
Thank you Oleh. Yes, this will work regardless of which version of the Soundcraft Signature series console you use. You will just have to adjust your print track according to which console you have.
Okay. I don’t do multitrack mixing in HMB. I use it to master in, so my buffer is set to 1024. Latency is not an issue because all my audio is passing through the console and nothing is playing back just through HMB. Hope that makes sense to you. Let me know if this is what you are using it for.
Cool that’s what I use MB for too just mastering. But I also use sonarworks for my room eq so I don’t monitor from the console I have to monitor in the box. So I guess that’s where my problem is. I use group output 1-2 from my console to my speakers so I can hear the process of the room correction eq from sonarworks when mixing or mastering.
Hey Brian, Jamal here. I just subbed under my new band name. So are you migrating over to Ableton now, or just adding that to your arsenal? Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hey, I haven't been the best sub in recent months. BTW congrats on the release of your EP, I just added you on Spotify so you can get the big $$ rolling in lol. That I am not entirely sure of. I was just trying to get a word mix to be printed back inside of Ableton Live.
