I have the Hema app but found it incredible hard to use. I'll see if I can find the 25 trails you mentions as I would really like to explore that area again. If you have any suggestion for the Victoria High Country I would love to hear them.
Yes a great area to ride though, hoping to go back once get back from my current ride in Western Australia. Hopefully I'll have more time to explore more dirt roads and tracks.

Always good to wake up and find your bike is still with you! Interesting comment! I have just spent a couple of nights in accommodation on Elizabeth Pier in Hobart with the possibility of having to park the bike out in the open. Also my bike lock broke just before my trip. Have been using a bicycle lock and so far so good.

Really inspirational video, I want to do the same sort of trip on a LAMS bike. I got into motorcycling years ago but immediately had to sell my bike due to some unfortunate circumstances. I've just moved to VIC from NSW and this is the perfect trip to get back into it.

@@freewayproject Thank you, I found it! Here is a camp site for you for next time. Opposite your river camp site is Newman's Road, which leads to Mount Terrible. Don't take it! Good for coming down, not so good for going up! Take Mt Terrible track instead (off Eildon-Jamieson Rd closer to Jamieson) 15km off-road climbing and you get to Mount Terrible. Good place to stay for a night. It even has a hut with a wood stove!

Thanks mate. I am using a DJI Osmo Action for filming when on the bike (from the chin of the helmet) otherwise I using a Sony A7SIII. I am taking photos with a Sony A7RIII, I only have room for 2 lenses Sony GM 24mm 1.4 and Sony GM 70mm - 200mm 2.8. I also have an old DJI Mavic Pro drone from 2016. I have a laptop with me to edit and use a portable hard drive as well.
The Coulson helicopters were used during the fire season as water bombers. They will likely be doing some of the water bombing now for the back burning which has started in Victoria.

I have found chain are fine to over 10 000km, they don't need adjusting but then once you adjust it then time between adjustments gets shorter, then it depends on the conditions you ride it in, an average chain I have found you get between 14 000 - 1800km, I am not sure if more expensive chains last longer. I gather there are forums out there with information on other peoples experiences (I don't read forums so not sure).
Also, Mount Kosciuszko is acually pronounced "Ka-shoo-sko". It was a Polish explorer who named it, it's just that us Aussies pronounce it ko-zee-o-skow

Loving the videos showing how capable the Himalayan really is, as for the helicopters they are fire fighting on trees. Small one is a Spotter the large one is a tanker
Yes the bike is doing a great job. I got confuse with the large helicopter having windows all the way along it, so assumed it wasn't a firefighter one, I had only seen the yellow firefighting ones before.
Yea it's a Sikorsky S-61 based in Australia for the bushfire's. Also would you be able to do a gear over view? Including camera gear, camping gear and other gear that you carry? I want to start doing some adventure riding and camping, I would love to have an idea on what you carry, the size and weight of it all.
Hi Grahame, I tried Hema maps but the user interface was a night mare to use. So in the end up just using google maps to get a round bearing then wing it, friends have said I have a built in GPS so haven't had any real issue yet but I might try gaia gps for the next time, so yer still looking for a solution.

I was going to head to WA but go through the Flinders Rangers I though about heading to Cameron's Corner first (I don't know much about there area) but from what I have seen it seem to be pretty sandy?
Episode 2 I was on the bike for 16 hours and pushed through sand for about 10 of them, that totally screwed me. I stand up a lot as the bike is in a similar position as my dirt bike. Bigger foot pegs help standing. I can stand at 100kmph hour on the Himalayan which is a bounce. Having a strong core and being flexible really help, as you're not in a stressed position to start with. I was a professional athlete in a former life which I find now is helping me later in life so not sure if that has something to do with it. but also I explore stop take a photo it may only be 3 or 4mins but it gives that little break, don't get in the head space of needing to get somewhere by a time, think more as if you want to see more stop explore more. I've done it where you think I can get there by a certain time you push to do it, but then you don't explore more so you don't get off the bike as much, even for a few minutes.
@@freewayproject yes, very true. I get too caught up in getting there, and not stopping to enjoy. Although, I also can spend so much time looking for a place to stop that I miss enjoying surroundings
i.e. I get a bit tied up finding the PERFECT spot, which somehow lessens the experience. I think I need to learn to chill i.e. no MUST GET THERE, and no MUST FIND THIS PLACE. I used to have a Vstom and could do long hours, and though I love the Himi, I find it harder to ride all day. Anyway, its an inspiration watching your journeys, so, thank you, good riding, and hope you have much joy in your travels!!
Well then maybe the Himalayan can help, if you can't ride as far plan for less milage per day on the bike. Again I am in the same situation as you and on the next trip are going to work on planning shorter days on the bike to slow down and take more in.
@@freewayproject Yup, it's one of the last places in Europe where you can go pretty much anywhere offroad (at least before it gets banned here too), and we do have a lot of gorgeous routes through the mountains, both paved and unpaved. There's also a pretty big and helpful offroad community, should you need any help or recommendations.

Yes it's alway good to have a bike still when you wake up, just stoked that it is not the alternative.

Yes it is startling how many trees are dead, apparently it is do to the native longicorn beetle.

Just one more question, I sometimes ride in the winter and wear "Freeze Out" layers and they work fine.

Loving the videos showing how capable the Himalayan really is, as for the helicopters they are fire fighting on trees. Small one is a Spotter the large one is a tanker
Yes the bike is doing a great job. I got confuse with the large helicopter having windows all the way along it, so assumed it wasn't a firefighter one, I had only seen the yellow firefighting ones before.
Yea it's a Sikorsky S-61 based in Australia for the bushfire's.
Also would you be able to do a gear over view? Including camera gear, camping gear and other gear that you carry? I want to start doing some adventure riding and camping, I would love to have an idea on what you carry, the size and weight of it all.

Hi Grahame, I tried Hema maps but the user interface was a night mare to use. So in the end up just using google maps to get a round bearing then wing it, friends have said I have a built in GPS so haven't had any real issue yet but I might try gaia gps for the next time, so yer still looking for a solution.

oh how are the roads to Cameron's Corner are they really sanding or just dirt roads? I was going to head to WA but go through the Flinders Rangers I though about heading to Cameron's Corner first (I don't know much about there area) but from what I have seen it seem to be pretty sandy?
how did you do 11/ 12 hours on the bike and not be knackered?
Episode 2 I was on the bike for 16 hours and pushed through sand for about 10 of them, that totally screwed me.
I stand up a lot as the bike is in a similar position as my dirt bike. Bigger foot pegs help standing. I can stand at 100kmph hour on the Himalayan which is a bounce. Having a strong core and being flexible really help, as you're not in a stressed position to start with. I was a professional athlete in a former life which I find now is helping me later in life so not sure if that has something to do with it.
but also I explore stop take a photo it may only be 3 or 4mins but it gives that little break, don't get in the head space of needing to get somewhere by a time, think more as if you want to see more stop explore more. I've done it where you think I can get there by a certain time you push to do it, but then you don't explore more so you don't get off the bike as much, even for a few minutes.
@@freewayproject yes, very true. I get too caught up in getting there, and not stopping to enjoy. Although, I also can spend so much time looking for a place to stop that I miss enjoying surroundings
i.e. I get a bit tied up finding the PERFECT spot, which somehow lessens the experience. I think I need to learn to chill i.e. no MUST GET THERE, and no MUST FIND THIS PLACE.
I used to have a Vstom and could do long hours, and though I love the Himi, I find it harder to ride all day.

Well then maybe the Himalayan can help, if you can't ride as far plan for less milage per day on the bike. Again I am in the same situation as you and on the next trip are going to work on planning shorter days on the bike to slow down and take more in.

It would be amazing to explore Romanian on a bike, I have heard there are good trails in the forest.
@@freewayproject Yup, it's one of the last places in Europe where you can go pretty much anywhere offroad (at least before it gets banned here too), and we do have a lot of gorgeous routes through the mountains, both paved and unpaved. There's also a pretty big and helpful offroad community, should you need any help or recommendations.
