  • The IEEE Computer Society bestowed its 2009 Technical Achievement Award on Sajal K. Das for his pioneering contributions to sensor networks.
    Sajal K. Das is a Distinguished Scholar Professor of Computer Science and Engineering--and the founding director of the Center for Research in Wireless Mobility and Networking--at the University of Texas at Arlington. He also serves as a program director at the US National Science Foundation.
    Das received the Lockheed Martin Teaching Excellence Award in 2009, the IEEE Region 5 Outstanding Engineering Educator Award in 2008, the IEEE Ft. Worth Section Engineer of the Year Award in 2007, the UTA Academy of Distinguished Scholars Award in 2006, the University Award for Distinguished Record of Research in 2005, the Engineering Research Excellence Award in
    2003, and the Outstanding Computer Science Faculty Award in 2001.
    He holds a BS from Calcutta University, an MS from the Indian Institute of Science, and a PhD from the University of Central Florida, all in computer science. His current research interests include wireless and sensor networks, mobile and ubiquitous computing, biological networks, and applied game theory.
    Das is the editor in chief of Elsevier's Pervasive and Mobile Computing journal, and associate editor of both IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing and IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems. He is also founder of the IEEE WoWMoM and PerCom Conferences. Das is a senior member of the IEEE.
