well 300 is about 5.5 and 500 is about 9 workers at full salary. It takes 10 years to get to full salary. All these guys make quarterly bonuses of 50-150k. That is just base salary on paper. I think Posties(I am one) have a decent wage but there are other problems at the table. What kind of Corporation awards 50-150k bonuses when they're supposedly losing money. Or builds a 500 million dollar plant and purchases $100k electric vehicles that we aren't even allowed to use when they're losing money. Something is fishy. Also the CEO and Chair are both board members at Purolator.
He's talking about the bonuses the execs have been giving themselves WHILE losing money. If my financial advisor lost me $100, I would not be telling "Great job, here's a bonus." Never mind the hundreds of millions the CP execs were losing. The anchor saying their salaries are necessary to retain talent. It doesn't take talent to lose billions of dollars. If it was, I would gladly offer my talents to any company at half the pay Canada Post's CEO is making.

He said it, it's a crown corporation and not a business.... That thinking is why they'll continue to lose money, and should not be bailed out with tax payers money!!!!
Canada post is publicly owned but NOT publicly funded. It’s run as a business, but it does have a mandate to service ALL Canadians. Canada post pays its own way. No tax dollars go to fund Canada Post. It does serve a huge section of rural Canada that wouldnt be able to survive without Canada Post delivery. ie: Northern Canadian communities.
they lost 748 million last year, 548 million in 2022, 490 million in 2021, 779 million in 2020 and 153 million in 2019, almost lost 3 billion dollars in the last 6 years. Idk most companies would have gone bankrupt at this point not giving out wage increases.
What's a "typical" job by the way? What's the average wage in Canada today? Stop tossing uniformed alternate facts out and think about what you're saying. Everybody that has a job should be able to afford food and shelter regardless of education.
So what I understand from this is Cananda Post is going to raise rates by 25% next year and the union workers want a big slice of it? Is Canada Post going to still be competitive in the delivery services of parcels against UPS and FedEx. Will the metro area change service companies and the rural area have to pay more because Canada Post is the Only available service? Either way if you are operating a business with these kind of losses are you really in business?
The executive pay excuse is lame, it doesn't fix the $3 billion loss problem going forward and from what the gentlemen said, it sounds like union workers are fine with this kind of loss because they aren't expected to turn a profit. Wild
Give into the union demands on one condition. Delivery drivers must drop off the package with proof of pictures whether the owner is home or not. No more writing notes to go to the postal office to pickup.
How are they lazy? Have you ever done a foot route and walked up to 4 hours a day every week? Do you go for a walk? Is it only in the sunshine or do you also go out while it's pouring rain? Do you lift up to 50 pounds at your job? Do you load and unload a truck full of parcels every work day?
Typical union deflection. When they expose your pay deflect to executive pay. Every union uses this weak tactic. Talk about executive pay that when collected doesn't equal 1/1000th of the collective union payroll.
If you look at the financials of Canada Post in 2023, Labour and employee benefits came to$4,889 M but 20 executives came to 15 million; 1CEO 15 vice president and four chief officers
@@NikBlack-w1s So what you are saying is that the postal workers each got paid $89 in all of 2023? Perhapse maybe you should look closer at the numbers and do a little bit of basic math.
Jim Gallant! fantastic and informative interview! The public seems to think workers make $100,000 a year! Their MAXIMUM wage is $63,000/yr... You can't compare the "percentage" they're asking for to percentages obtained recently in other worker negotiations, because their salaries are MUCH higher to begin with than Canada Post employees'... Even with +/-20% over 4 years, they still won't even be close to caught up to Purolator wages. How can a corporation invest $743M in 2023 then declare a "loss" of $748M that same year? The CEO stated in the President's message (2022 Annual Report) that they had already invested $1.5B and were planning to invest $4B in 5 years... Here we are 2 years later, and we're hearing about $3B "losses" in 6 years. Make that make sene... Nothing but deficits since the CEO and Board were replaced after the Canada Post Review of 2018. The auditor General would be well placed to shed some light on the financial reality at Canada Post.
If it loses money and the unionized employees won't let it restructure it must be allowed to go broke. Reminds me of German auto workers. Companies aren't selling cars but they want to be kept on the payroll. Reality needs to seep into these peoples' world view.
They invested 4 million in a new building and committed to paying 1 billion to go electric for their fleet of 14000 vehicles. They claim loss when a building is an asset.
They have a right to strike, but not to take money in advance! Announce the strike so we can try to find an alternative. If I only paid just a bit more, wouldn't need to worry now will my order get damaged by cold weather or angry staffer :(
I agree the management are greedy in giving themselves bonuses. But all these bonuses combined are nowhere near the billion dollars of losses. I can't see how the union expects the CP to give the 24% raise.
To go into a deal that raises costs in a losing model is not responsible for either party. Canada Post & Union need to fix that. They are not doing that! To pay more & lose money because it's a public sector corporation is a full STOP. Look at the taxpayer point of view.
Im sorry to say but the Canada Post worker/management arrogance is typical of many Canadian businesses and their workers. Nobody is that indispensable. They have had 30 plus years to change...they chose not to and now they must pay the price.
I hope the 25% postage rate helps keep Canada Post fiscally neutral. With the $200 million in expected revenue from the holiday season, it could offset the anticipated $500+ million loss for 2024. Wish them the best but layoffs a coming. If they don't that manager should be fired!!!

well 300 is about 5.5 and 500 is about 9 workers at full salary.
55000 workers multiplied by 100k per year is thousands of times the executives pay combined. Typical union tactic of deflection.
@@omis6610 How about the fact that since they overpay 55000 unionized workers, no ceo on earth could make that company profitable.
Have you looked at what management/CEO/directors/supervisors make and how top heavy Canada Post is?
Hire some pigeons. I want my mail
Get back to work
Do we really need Canada post
It’s costing tax payers more than it’s worth
Canada Post is not taxpayer funded dumb dumb. It's common knowledge.
Educate yourself
Crown Corporation not taxpayer funded!!! Please do some research before embarrassing yourself...
@ who pays for the crown
It’s not government money it’s our taxes
@realbro1415 then who pays for the losses year over year?
24% wage increase ,seven weeks holidays! it’s ridiculous. You know union demand is insane. If this is the way union wants government should sell off Canada Post and make it private.
These CP workers don't care or realize that the taxpayers are funding them when they're losing billions.
Worse, He is thinking that he is like a federal government employee and negotiating like they are Services Canada wanting a pay increase.
they lost 748 million last year, 548 million in 2022, 490 million in 2021, 779 million in 2020 and 153 million in 2019, almost lost 3 billion dollars in the last 6 years. Idk most companies would have gone bankrupt at this point not giving out wage increases.
Read the tea leafs … you’re a failing business who looses money every year and pays full time hours for part time work.
Privatize Canada post. Time for these unionized workers to compete in the real world.
They should hire you as the finance minister you’d solve all the problems
I think these workers need to understand what its like to have a typical job
So, to you, reality is living paycheque to paycheque and we should all rollover and become gig workers?
@@SelfInstructorSomeone has to pay for some ultrawealthy persons yacht.
@@abcdedfg8340Pretty sad that these wannabe billionaires are defending the oppressors.
What's a "typical" job by the way?
What's the average wage in Canada today?
Stop tossing uniformed alternate facts out and think about what you're saying.
Everybody that has a job should be able to afford food and shelter regardless of education.
100% agreee.
I just want my citizenship passport , driving license and some parcel for my parents Christmas gifts 😒
Its just lettermail postage. Not parcel.
The executive pay excuse is lame, it doesn't fix the $3 billion loss problem going forward and from what the gentlemen said, it sounds like union workers are fine with this kind of loss because they aren't expected to turn a profit. Wild
I have zero respect to Canada Post and their Union workers
Did you mind getting your stuff delivered during the pandemic?
Perhaps you should treat them with respect. Would you not want to be treated with respect? Every job has its challenges.
CUPW won’t get much sympathy from me, when you take a job you know what you’re signing up for. Don’t like it go find a better job.
tell that to the police force crying wolf about the dangers of being a police
That’s not how it works, LOL. Obviously, don’t understand contracts and negotiations
privatize
No sympathy at all for Canada post.
_THIS FRIGGIN' GUY.... _*_I'M TELLIN' YA..._*
Just privatize it already. No Government owned Corporation should be funded by taxpayers.
sign me up I'm ready to work with existing conditions!
Also CUPW kept delivering through covid. Delivering everything from dog food to tv's while everyone was enjoying covid pay.
Give into the union demands on one condition. Delivery drivers must drop off the package with proof of pictures whether the owner is home or not. No more writing notes to go to the postal office to pickup.
This is absolutely pathetic on all fronts. Both the union and the lazy workers.
Agree, they want to be paid like skilled professionals even they though they are a none skilled workers.
All fronts huh.
@NikBlack1 You are the one claiming that postal worker payroll is $.4.8 million a year.
All I heard was you agree that Justin Trudeau gets paid what he should lol
@@larrymunn5279 Of course that's all you heard because your a union shill.
When Canada Post is run like a business but still managed like a government entity...
A lot of tax payers money for a system that is obsolete and not required.
We don’t pay taxes for postal service.
Canada Post is not taxpayer funded dumb dumb. It's common knowledge.
Your taxes are not paying salaries at Canada Post.
The fact remains that they lost $3 billion since 2018.
All I'm hearing is because of the management being greedy, we deserve to be greedy too
They have a right to strike, but not to take money in advance! Announce the strike so we can try to find an alternative. If I only paid just a bit more, wouldn't need to worry now will my order get damaged by cold weather or angry staffer :(
Im with the postal workers
Thanks for the support @MrPeaceman71
I'm not. Overpaid bums.
Apply and find out for yourself.
@@ImNotNormAllThanks for calling me a bum when you know nothing about what the job entails. Love you too
Haven't heard a single report of these unsafe conditions. You aren't enduring harm. You're causing it
Sometimes it rains and snows and other days it's so hot. Mail delivery isn't for Canadians. It's hard work.
I agree the management are greedy in giving themselves bonuses. But all these bonuses combined are nowhere near the billion dollars of losses. I can't see how the union expects the CP to give the 24% raise.
we don't need them..and i love i don't have to sort all the junk advertising in my mailbox.
To go into a deal that raises costs in a losing model is not responsible for either party. Canada Post & Union need to fix that. They are not doing that! To pay more & lose money because it's a public sector corporation is a full STOP. Look at the taxpayer point of view.
Just release our important documents so we can pick them up by ourselves…just need my passport back!!!!
Canada post is bleeding money. It has been bleeding money for a long time. It’s time to cut all the postal workers who do home deliveries, install super boxes everywhere.
They should cut delivery to 3 days a week, for home delivery.
This guy should be in jail!
This guy is a clown.
Vasy K, your reporting falls short of journalism.
Oh no my flyers and parking tickets...
How profitable do you think it is for the major couriers to run service in Rural Canada? This is literally harming vast swaths of your fellow Canadians.
Canada post will continue to lose money until they shut down half the Post Offices around the country, no one uses mail anymore and we have post offices every 10 miles or less. unions won't let that happen though. So much waste it's unbelievable
The 16% of all Canadians who live in remote/rural areas rely on Canada post.
No other courier service delivers there because it is not profitable.
Unknown to most citizens, The Fedex and UPS of this world give their parcels to Canada post to deliver in rural areas while skimming profit from high density urban areas
