  • In this video I review an RPG that has been on my backlog for over a decade, SaGa Frontier Remastered. I'm very happy that I finally beat this game and started to learn more about the SaGa series. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy.

nice seeing another video on my favorite game, imo the greatest JRPG ever. i Love the living hell out of this game, it feels so much faster, snapier, great to explore and inifinitely replayable without time wasters compared to a lot of JRPGS(like FF, DQ and a bunch of other series), its also cool to have some gameplay based JRPGS since even at time, story heavy ones were becoming so common and often restrictive. i love this one. great video btw, i would recomment going to Ministrel song next

Yeah this one and the series intrigued me now, especially when I recently played games like the aforementioned Live A Live Remake and Octopath Traveler 2.
Great review and the new SaGa Emerald Beyond looks really good

Nice review! I recommend you check out Romancing SaGa (either the modern remaster or the PS2 version). The voice acting helps give the characters more personality

So you mean Romancing Saga: Minstrel Song?
That was the first saga game I tried, just last year, and I bounced right off it because of the near total lack of character and story

You're not wrong about Lute's quest, but there's a reason for it being so sparse - a handful of story beats with you mostly free-roaming until you decide it's time to go take on the boss. They hit a time crunch and didn't get to implement most of his stuff, which was intended to intersect with the other characters' stories a lot more in a "better to play last" sort of way. You can tell from the number of story beats and unique environments that Asellus' quest got most of the love, though a few of the other non-Lute characters got a decent amount as well.
So what did they do when they remastered it? . . . Well, they certainly didn't fix Lute's quest. Instead, they basically ignored him, added in Fuse and gave him story beats that intersected with the other characters' stories(though in odd ways), and . . . oh, yeah, even *more* Asellus bits, as if she was ever lacking those. At this point, I just want an updated Lute's quest that resembles what they originally intended to do. But I guess that'll never happen - they had their chance, and blew it. Still love the game in general.
Oh, and as for monsters, having certain combinations of skills determines what body form you're taking(w/ its bonuses and penalties), but you gain small boosts for *every different monster* you consume during the course of the game. So your strategy with monsters is to gobble up as many different ones as possible, *then* focus on gaining the specific moves to get the form you want. If you go straight into the form you want, but don't consume a lot of different monsters, you'll be significantly weaker than you could have been. (And iirc, the "gaze" monster skills gave you one of the strongest monster forms.)

Damn dude, thank you so much for sharing so much useful info, that's cool to know!
Do the monster mechanics work the same in SF2 (I'm assuming they're monsters in 2)?

@@35infinite Sorry. I bounced off of SF2 hard and didn't make it very far into the game. I honestly don't remember much about it at all, and the only characters I remember at all were human. I can say that it's not really a sequel to SF at all - much like Final Fantasy games, most entries in the SaGa series are standalone.
tbh, the only SaGa games I've actually enjoyed playing were SaGa Frontier and a couple of those early ones that came to the US as the Final Fantasy Legends games(1 and 3, iirc; not sure if I even tried 2, so now I guess I have something else to add to my queue.)

"I hope the stories are better in other saga games" he says right after holding up a copy of SF2 to the camera. heh heh
SF2 is easily the most plot oriented game in the series.
I think you'll enjoy the graphics too, everything is gorgeous watercolor drawings.

And yet such a dissapointing sequel to frontier, stories just dont work well for SaGa.
One of the worst games in the series imo, obviously, after Unlimited

I've had it for like at least 15 years. I made a couple of attempts years apart. I can't get into it. I tried. Love scarlet grace though i need to play that more.
