Finally decided to get into the world of 3d printing and choose the ankermake m5c as my first printer. Cant wait for it to be delivered! Especially after seeing so many positive review videos.

I just bought the Ankermake 5m (non M5c version) since it got fairly good reviews for a first 3D printer, plus it was $200 off. We'll see how it does, but I am impressed with the build quality. I buy lots of Anker products, and every single one of the Anker products have worked well with no issues, so hoping for the best with my new printer.
I have owned 9 printers now and my M5c (haven’t tried the 5) is the one I “trust” even over my Bambu lab p1s if I’m printing something I really don’t want to fail. Of course not perfect but I keep it as my primary. Really disappointed their multicolor printer didn’t work out and they canceled it. They do make quality products

I got the ender 3 pro years ago and didn't know anything, but I followed a few tutorials and started out printing upgrades for the printer itself. You learn a lot as you go. Definitely easier to use files that are already out there, and they're easy to find now.
That was actually my first printer that I received and sent back. I definitely found this to be as beginner friendly as I could hope for so yea definitely now I’m learning day by day a bit more but that hurdle back then turned me off to it. I really see the value in them now so I’m happy some more easy to use stuff is coming out eliminating the hurdle for people to try it out!

Hahaha yea left that in 😉 yeah after making the video I actually went and watched a couple other peoples just to see what they said, and everybody seems to agree that this is a fantastic, beginner printer, good price and easy software with still a very good quality in fast print. Have fun with it. I honestly can’t believe all the cool stuff. There is out there as soon as my printer done I already have the next one lined up ready to go. 😆

Thanks Jim, I would describe myself as a normal person with computers, obviously, I know how to video edit, but designing and all that type of stuff it’s definitely not in my wheelhouse. But this thing definitely is easy and I’m kind of a kid in a candy shop now with just looking at all these websites and all the cool tool accessories I can build for things and intricate holders that people have made for my tools and stuff that I’m having a lotta fun with it! I after I put this one out, I looked at what a couple other reviewer‘s were saying, and they said the same thing it’s super beginner, friendly
Its a great product. I got one as well and I love it. I had creality before and it was working a while but I wasent satisfyed by the resulth. After Ankermaker M5C I am planning to get another to be able to print more efficient and I cant exspress how much I love Ankermaker. I just wish it was little bigger so I am able to print stuff that are 25cm hight but overall I dont complain. I am happy to see you also had the same passion I have for this product.
Oh very cool, so I have 3 printers now, the M5c is still the easiest to use. They will be introducing another printer or two I heard through the grapevine this year, unfortunately they canceled the v6 color engine…. Bummed about that one

I have a 3d printer as well. I love to make shop organization projects and tools. I happen to be an engineering student, so I luckily have the knowledge to be able to design some things myself.
Very cool! Yea it was rough to start but now over the past three weeks I have been learning things item at a time and so I’m sure in a few mo I’ll be a pro. The nice thing was it was easy to get learning on. Good luck with your engineering schooling. Most of my family are engineers, great profession!
I'm not a 3D printing beginner, but I have this machine and I use 'easy mode' in the software a lot. It just works for 90% of stuff and gives a clean result.

@@BitnerBuilt got it set up, easily printed something off the app. Having trouble signing on to Slicer on the computer, it won’t except my email address. One other minor thing, I see on your unit the spool is with the label facing forward, on mine in order to feed it right the label faces to the back.
@@mitchellbernstein42maybe email ankermake on the slicer email login? Or do the forgot password deal to log in? Yea I turned the spool around so it showed the label out for the still shots of the video but yea when I’m printing it’s turned the other way. I just made an enclosure for it with French cleats on the back so I have the spools on the side now wall mounted.
@@BitnerBuilt tried that it won’t recognize my email address, strange that it’s the same one on the phone app. I’ll try calling them tomorrow. Otherwise I’m happy with it so far.
@@BitnerBuilt Finally got it all figured out. One more question, can you import filed into the phone app instead of having only the stock files to print?
I bought a "beginner" 3d printer as well over a year ago and had the same experience. I got frustrated with all of the settings and leveling the bed and restarting failed prints. It's just tucked away in a corner ever since. I'll probably order one of the Ankermake after I can find someone to pawn my current on off on. - Chris
Lol yea I honestly was anti 3d printer after my two bad ones, bad software and same with bed leveling and just not getting good results. really having fun with this one, I just keep perusing all these sites for what to print next and keep finding cool shop stuff
I have been waiting for a faster 3d printer. I have plenty of standard fdm printers, but I want at least one that is faster. I also have printed many things for my wood shop. Hose adapters are the main thing I have printed. I will say your wood shop is much cleaner then mine! :)
Cool! Yes love the hose adaptors, great use! Since I never kept the slower machines, I can’t speak to it, but I feel like this one’s printing at a decent clip. Most of the time, max speed is 500 MMS.
Looks great. I bought a ender 3 v2 2 years which had to be built from scratch. Tooks me days with hundreds of small screes and bolts. I made an error with wiring and the.machine gauged the bed. Took me 2 years totry it again but there are 100 variables that make your print bad. Im modding my ender to see if it can become workable out of stubborness. But i think a next gen printer is the way to go. They are getting easier and be tter made. Enclosed printers are the latest models like bambu X1. Wifi is a nice perk as inserting microsd gets old fast. It is nice to merge two hobbies. Mybsense is cnc is even less easy to jump into than 3d printing
Yea my first printer was an ended 3 like you and that’s why I sent it back right away because of how “diy tech” it was. This really was so easy it’s what made it no barrier to a fun time. The company’s been really interested in my beginner thoughts on things and I’ve been sending them lots of feedback which they’ve been really responsive to, even since I received this printer they’ve already done three firmware updates bringing new features each time. That give me lots of good feelings about them because most of the time it’s hey here’s this thing make a video and that’s it. They are really interested in continually improving and I like companies like that. They are a pretty big company over all (Anker) had had lots of their other products for years.
@@BitnerBuiltits become much more competitive with new gen of printers. I think i will tinker a bit longer teaching myself then move to new printer in a year or two. I already flashed new firmware and put 4 mods on my ender 3 v2. Funny thing it was printing very badly so i kept changing things. Turned out my never used filament was opened and was bad so the extra bad printing wasnt the ender at all.
it's the iphone of 3D printing except for the price which is now $350. I have 2 and definitely have End-Her😉

Hey Justin, fantastic video as always! I'm about to dive in with your link, but before I do, I've got a couple of quick questions for you. Noticed the link is just for the machine - could you recommend which filaments work best in your testing for Battery holders, packout feet, and French Cleats? Your content is awesome, and I enjoy hearing about your other ventures too. Keep up the amazing work! 🙌
Awesome and thank you! Yea really having fun with it, soooo many things to print for the shop. Pla+ is the best to start with. It’s what I’m printing most things with. It’s the cheapest and easiest to print. It’s a very strong rigid plastic. It is more on the brittle side though, so petg is the next item if you need a little flex. Abs is what I’m about to try out, that’s most similar to what Milwaukee packout stuff is. Strong but flexible. But it puts off a bad gas so that one needs a enclosure (video on that in a week or so) or do in the garage door open with a fan. Prob there is abs needs heat so an enclosure would work better (if you watch vids on that people use a cardboard box 😂) on using PLA for French cleats, it works, but obviously what is stronger, depending on what the weight of the item is. You can also in the software change how much plastic you’re using default in the easy mode is 10% of the volume of the item is plastic and the rest is air, he uses lattice structure on the inside to make it rigid. You can obviously increase this to use more plastic and less air, and it makes it a much stronger item for something that needs to be stronger. Have fun with it!
Great video. I put off buying a printer because I assumed it would be a toy that I would use for a few weeks and then put in a corner to gather dust. But there are so many free designs available now it is absolutely worth having one for shiop stuff alone. Can you post a link for the Cen-Tec hose adapter you showed in the video?

Glad I watched this. I usually skip over videos of reviews of things that are not relevant to me such as 3D printers, Festool (can't afford them) and the like.
I do have a couple of questions, though. How sturdy are the items you made? They seem brittle. Also, how much is the cost for such items? I see prices for filament, but have no idea just how much you can print from a spool. (I understand size matters!) 🙂
Glad you tuned in, these weren’t for me either but having tons of fun now! So most items I print are 10% filament and 90% air, but they form an internal lattice structure that gives it a lot of rigidity. There’s one easy button though before you print where you can change how much infill you want to use. So for a lot of the things I print the 10% it’s more than fine. if it was going to be a item that was gonna be under a lot of pressure like let’s say a holder for a sledgehammer I might up the infill to 40%. The more infill the stronger it is. From a cost perspective it obviously ranges but if a spool of PLA on Amazon is around $15, a lot of the prints I’m making might be the equivalent of two dollars ish. Small stuff a few cents. That large blast gate maybe $4. To do all the prints that I showed in my video probably took two spools.
Thanks Justin for the video. I just purchased a 3D printer and I was on the edge for a AnkerMake M5C. I sadly discovered some things with their privacy policies I don't agree. A little bit deep diving into the company I honestly got scared off and decided for another brand.
The printer I got is from a known brand and it was really easy to setup. I was a bit scared about it but since the first time my friend introduced me to 3d printing (5 years ago?) the market changed a lot. I am an absolutely beginner and it was easy to built and setup. All my prints have had a great quality so far, negative site is that the print time is pretty slow.
But I can agree to the conclusion in your video - get a 3d printer! You can make so much stuff with it. Goofy stuff but also a ton of useful stuff and You will have the possibility to build whatever you need for almost everything. Even I did not decide for the here introduced printer, thanks for the video!

Just found your channel and am learning a lot and getting great ideas. I am a hobby woodworker but am also an avid technology nerd. If you were going to start adding some other tools to your wookshop, which would you start with, CNC, laser or 3d printing?
Thanks! Well, it depends on the type of stuff that you like to make, it would either be the CNC or the Laser. A 3-D printer is a fantastic shop edition, but it’s mainly for need a adapter for a dust collector. No problem I can print that, I need a tool holder no problem I can print that. The CNC machine is excellent for making signs and cutting out pieces needed for different woodworking projects. The laser engraver, obviously engraves, which is super handy also in some instances eliminates the need for painting, it can cut up to a certain depth, but it’s usually a smaller form factor than a CNC machine. I actually find that I’m gravitating towards the Laser more often as long as whatever I have to do is able to fit either in the machine or through the conveyor mechanism.
Thanks for the quick response@@BitnerBuilt. While I've been watching a lot more 3d printing videos, today I took a look at a number of laser videos too. I see there are a growing number that can cut pretty thick wood, though small format. Seems to me thay might offer engraving and inlay but also allow you to cut out some smaller parts that frankly might do similar things to the 3d printing I've been looking at. I'll keep researching and keep watching your videos. Thanks for all your efforts in furthering the maker community.
@@japrestoyes you are very right about all of that! I would recommend looking at my video on open versus enclosed lasers. There are some really great enclosed lasers that are coming to the market at a much more affordable cost than they used to be with excellent safety features my x tool S1 actually has a carbon dioxide fire suppression system so if it detects a fire, it literally releases gas to put it out without damaging the unit.

Yea it's a lot of fun when you're printing everything you want easily lol! I went from hating it to now debating picking up a second.... Just built an enclosure for it, video out on that in a few days! I always preface a new purchase with my wife by saying hey im going to sell xyz, I want this other one so that will pay for it, anything you need?

Well as I had said this is my third, the first two models I had were poor. This one the M5c has been excellent. Prob 100 prints with maybe 4-5 fails that were printer issues (filament issue, or the print dislodged) I get offered a lot of other 3-D printers lately for review and I haven’t taken any simply because I’ve been very happy with this one and I’m very focused on continuing to show beginner easy stuff with the printer. I’m not interested in getting into a more complicated DIY techie unit.

Hey Justin! I purchased the M5C this week after watching your videos and review. I started with an Ender 3 V2 and after struggling with it for quite some time, I took your advice to get the M5C this week. So far every PETG print I’ve tried has had issues with infill and I’m sure I can tweak the settings, but I’m starting to feel like I’m going down the same road as I did with my Ender. Do you have any tips? In both versions of the Ankermake Slicers, there’s only one setting for PETG. Right now I’m just trying to print some hold downs for my CNC so it should be very simple for the M5C I would think.
Hmmm I have to say I print daily with my unit and the only issues I have run into so far is some prints detaching from the plate later in the print. I mainly print in pla or abs (since I have ventilation) can you describe what the infill issues are? I can ask my contacts at the company directly
The model I’m printing are just basic T-Shaped clips with an elongated hole in the center for the bolt to go into a t track, simple design. The first 3 layers print beautifully, but when I get to the 4th layer, where the infill lines start to lay day down, the filament stops sticking to itself and peels up. This is using the Ankermake software that you showed in your review, which I’ll add was hard to get my hands on. When I tried using the beta software they have on the website now, first layer went down really well, but then the second layer started lifting and not sticking similar to the infill with the other software. I have properly dried my PETG and run my spools from a dry box after being dried so it has to be a slicer issue. Thanks for your help!! Just out of curiosity, do you find PLA good enough for shop use? I was always concerned it wouldn’t hold up well enough so I’ve stuck with PETG yet I could never truly dial in my Ender well enough to justify an enclosure for ABS
I will forward this them then and get back to you. Yes I do find it’s fine for most shop stuff if it’s a holder. I do use abs as my more “durable” option I use most so things that are active use items. The M5c has printed abs really well so far so I have kinda fallen into just buying those two filaments really haven’t played with pets myself yet. Just a basic google on pets not sticking to itself is people saying it’s cooling too fast (either print hotter or enclosure or turn off cooling fan) but I’ll let you know what ankermake says

After wanting to throw my Ender in the trash last week, I remembered watching your videos on the M5C when you first posted them and I rewatched your review again and that’s when I made my decision to jump on board. I’ve learned a lot from watching your videos and you truly have one of the best TH-cam channels in terms of honesty, content and wanting to help your viewers versus just trying to sell them stuff that they may or may not need. Not that those channels don’t have their place, but you raised the bar just a tad higher by doing yours your way.

I've looked into 3d printing and I'm concerned about humidity. Ive heard that 3d printing doesn't like a humid environment. Do you live in a humid area?
So my shop is overly humid . 50% due to it being so hot and running the ac non stop but not my dehumidifier because it won’t get cool then. You can get a $30 filament dryer like I purchased ( I’m putting out a video in a week where I make a custom enclosure for it and make a whole bunch of accessory is like the filament dryer) you put the filament in that box and it has a little heater where it removes all of the humidity and then it has a little port where you can pull the filament out and run it to the machine for when you’re printing so even if you’re in an ultra humid environment like Florida, the filament will stay nice and dry up until printing time. The humidity thing isn’t an immediate reaction. I’ve watched a couple videos where it’s a slow process. Where after you take the filament out of the bag if you leave it in a human environment for a week two weeks three weeks that’s when it starts to absorb the moisture, but then they put it in one of the film and dryers, and it sucks all the humidity back out. Like I said in the video, give it a try and you can always return it, I am honestly very enamored with it right now. There’s just so many cool things that I can print with it and little by little. I’m learning a lot over the past three weeks one print at a time.
