On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-14-18.
We're looking at a 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee in B5 Blue Paint. The car comes with the factory 426 CI Hemi engine.
The car's Owner is Paul Veney Sr.. Paul’s had this car since 1998. He shares he always wanted a “Hemi Car”, however never thought he’d have one. While right here at Carlisle he saw this one for sale and purchased the car.

I'm in love with this Super Bee! A triad of Wows sent forth without hesitation! I had completely forgotten about this car. I haven't seen any Super Bees on the road in all of forever it feels like, not since the 70s. I miss the 70s - gawd I miss the 70s! Magnificent cars all throughout and good times. Lots a rubber left burning on the road, gorgeous girls, some great burgers, quality TV shows, peculiar but great movies - and OH! The Rock and Rolla! The 70s has gotta come back into style eventually. Did I say I love the 70s? I know - I was being so evasive it was hard to tell. Thanx for the time trip down memory avenue! Excellent car!!!!

Yeah, I always thought the the bumper actually framing the grille, and split like that, was a pretty ingenious concept.

Because of the front grille treatment, this was my FAVORITE year B-Body over any Road Runner or Charger. I've owned two of them, and hope one day to own this year once again. Until then, my life's not complete. Sad, but true.

Yup! In 81, my brother's best friend had bought a 70 Bee, 383 Mag, and garaged it. The car has 20K on it and he was the second owner.... But I remember telling his what an ugly POS he'd bought. LOL! the things 13 yr olds say, with no filter. Now I look at it and see something so unique. I mean even the big Chryslers of the mid 60's look way better then they did when I was a kid!

Actually the RT CORONET, was the better model as those came stock with 440s, most 70 super bees 🐝 had 383. Hemi exception. My friend had this exact car in b5 blue, black interior, four speed but 383.. This car is absolute beauty Lou, all the goodies, hemi, four speed, rally gauge, tic toc tac, ramcharger induction, Trac pac. Too bad no buckets tho. great find Lou, love it

Where on earth do you find these rare gems. A 70 Dodge Coronet Super Bee 2 Dr hardtop with a 426 Hemi Torqueflite with a vinyl roof....Absolutely amazing! Now I'm assuming that since Super Bee is patterned after the Road Runner...most of them are 2 Dr post sedans. The Road Runner was initially offered in 68 as a 2 door post coupe only. The pillarless hardtop and the Super Bee came out in 69. A great video as always.

magnificent. tell everyone who received speeding tickets from state troopers in plymouth split faced chryslers, fury II's or whatever, that this vehicle is SO spectacularly unique. it's got that understated coronet look at the tail that is nice, but has the stupid pistol grip shifter (which apparently was promoted in the dodge product guide for 1970.) what about regular manual transmission knobs found in triumphs and austin healys? anericans are generally uncouth.

Most of these Hemi cars went straight to the dragstrip, and were promptly blown up.The main problem with the Hemi was you needed to spin it to 7 grand to make the power. They came with no warranty because the engine was a time bomb. Most dealers that got stuck with one of these cars would discount the extra charge for the Hemi to get it off the lot.

Even though I did not see it while pausing the brochure, I do not believe you could have gotten air conditioning with the Hemi engine.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  4 ปีที่แล้ว

You're right, no air conditioning option with a Hemi.

Original sticker appeared to read $4766 with options. At Mecum Auctions it could possibly fetch $150K.

Hey Lou.... you should do a pre-interveiw (learn about the car) instead of adlibing your documentation of these rare cars.

Hey Steven....When the Care Taker of 20 years is sharing details about the car, and in the video from 3:30 to 7:15 (Note: Paul doesn't usually drive around with time period correct Dodge brochures perfectly spread out in the trunk) we have documentation, and sharing the fender tag, we're (mostly Paul since he owns the car & I) sharing quite a bit of knowledge. What do you see I'm missing in a 13 minute video? Lou

Is it just me or does this hemi sound like it could use a tune up?

    • @loucostabile

Hi Andrew Samy, It sounded good to me. Might be stock mufflers creating some exhaust push back sound rather then free flowing. Hope that helps, Lou

I would have come up with the $55 or so to get power steering. Of course you would save a fortune on gym memberships over the years by avoiding it.

I learned to drive in a Plymouth Duster with no power steering but that only had a Slant 6. I imagine the Hemi in Coronet would double the effort/bicep payoff.

Very nice car. I remember when they were just hitting the showrooms.
However the nose is ugly as hell.
Once they got out of the 67-68 yrs they were not near as good looking. IMHO
