Diesel fuel has a low ignition point. You start the engine on gasoline; let it run a little while until it gets hot; then switch to diesel fuel.
That thing may look rough, but it's actually in pretty good shape.

  • @frankwurth5375

It's a gas start IHC TD 24. Giant in their day. You have to have gas in the starting tank, pull the compression relief lever, so it can start on the gas cycle. after i starts, Once it warms up a bit , open the throttle till you get a fuel smoke and put the compression lever to the diesel position, it should switch over to the full diesel operation. I don't know where your located, but many of us collectors and farmers like these machines. They still can do a lot of work around the farm!

That is NOT a td 24 but a td 14 and that one is much smaller than a D8! The td14 is roughly the same size as a D6

Sorry, but you need a closer look. I've had 2 TD 14s over the years, their gas start 4 cylinder motors, the one in the photo is a 6 cylinder gas start diesel. That raised box over the instrument cover I've only seen on the 24. My TD 18A Has a gas start 6 cyl but isn't as large as the machine in the photo.

You have to disengage the hand clutch to shift the transmission, lever against his left knee the other 2 taller levers to the left control the winch one is a brake the other engage it, its an old fricton winch. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it other than the operator not being familiar with the machine
There's a pretty good collection base out there on these old machines especially it being a military machine its worth a fair price!!

For some of us that have run these machines, it would be a great find. Angle blade and winch are definite pluses. You really need to get someone familiar with these older machines to give you some instruction. It is worth more as an intact unit than as scrap. Probably has another fifty years in it.

  • @oldamericaniron5767
    @oldamericaniron5767 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

It isn’t a gas injection pump, that’s a magneto for spark to spark plugs. The plug wires are shielded. To start properly you pull decompression lever which lowers compression by opening up chambers with spark plugs in them. The carb has no speed control, just a choke. Check for spark plugs, points may need filing. Kind of hard to explain, best to look up you tube video. Hand clutch is lever on left side probably coming up thru floor boards. It should snap forward and backwards. Back should be released, clutch plates may be stuck. If so when you run it against a tree do it with clutch lever back, released position, clutch May break free. You apparently are direct starting it on diesel, if it does that I’d think engine is in good shape. Please don’t scrap, if you want to dispose of it I think an IH collector would do way better than scrap price. If you can’t find a video on starting leave a reply comment and I could do a step by step procedure of starting on mine on my TH-cam channel.

Watch you two is painful, ask some who has experience. The levers on the left with brake handles are for the winch operation, the next lever is the master clutch(forward is disengaged, back is engaged) two short levers are steering clutches, pedals are steering brakes, next lever is forward & reverse, next lever is transmission gear selection. The brake band on the dozer winch need to be tightened.

If it's a 59 this is a TD20 200 series these were the last of the gas start diesels, it certainly seems good enough to keep especially with military history, the winch on the back helps for a more balanced machine, the CCU needs adjustment so the sheaves grab and hold the blade up, as stated the 2 outer most levers operate the back winch the lever by the left knee is the hand clutch, it also has a clutch brake like a semi those pads maybe shot but with a few adjustments by someone knowledgeable on these this is still a viable machine

Nothing wrong with the blade. look at the pins on the sides where the blade pins back. It's an angle blade. There are different spots to pin it back. The middle pin holes on each side are for normal dozing. Then pull the pin and move either way to make it an angle dozer to whatever side you need.

It starts on Gasoline to warm up then switch to Diesel. What you're calling a gas pump is a Magneto which has spark plug wires going to spark plugs into each cylinder. Late 50's early 60's design. Great old machines.
CAT used pony motors( gasoline starter engines) to start the diesel engine once oil pressure is up, fuel pressure and combustion chambers warmed up before adding fuel.

Look on those tags on the machine, and see what model it is. Should be a TD (then a number, maybe followed by a letter). Looks like a TD 20 maybe. Find something else for that fellow to do that was trying to run it. He’s costing you money. Don’t spray ether in the air intake if it’s an oil bath filter. There should be a plug between the filter and the head to remove to give it a shot of ether. Take care.

Keep it. The amount of work this can do in a scrap yard, you will never find the end of.
Also, the tracks tell of a low hour unit. Tighten them, they are to loose.
Its bullet proof, except the radiator. Build a steel guard for that 3/8" should do, have 1/2" holes to assist ventilation.
It can move very large amounts of material quickly.
It can go almost anywhere you point it, while loaded.
Caution, CAREFUL, a tracked vehicle can 'skate' sideways if it gets on a slippery slope.
Operators job at that point is to drop the blade, then jump.
    Preferably on the uphill side.
Besides, it will be so very satisfactory in a manly manner to run.
I know, ive run them. Until you've used one, you'll never understand.
P.S. when you start it up, pick the RPMs up to about 1200 as soon as you have oil pressure.
