  • If you're suffering with unresolved back, butt/piriformis, or sciatica pain- watching this video is mandatory. Does it seem like no one can figure out why you hurt? Does it seem like your case is complex, doesn't make sense, or that your symptoms are all over the place? This could be your missing piece of the puzzle...
    Figuring out the cause of back, butt (piriformis syndrome), and sciatica can seem impossible- but it doesn't have to be.
    Some of the more common causes are herniated discs, spinal stenosis, arthritis, degenerative disc disease (DDD), degenerative joint disease (DJD), hip osteoarthritis, piriformis syndrome, hip bursitis, sacroiliac joint dysfunction (SI Joint problems)... and many others.
    No wonder people get so caught up in trying to figure out the cause of their pain in the butt!
    Is it possible that you (and the rest of the modern medical community) are missing something?
    And this is why no matter what you try- chiropractic, physical therapy (PT), stretching your piriformis (glute/buttock), strengthening your piriformis muscle, acupuncture, myofascial release, the Mckenzie method, Stuart McGill's "Big 3" exercises, shots, injections, or even surgery...
    NOTHING WORKS!
    What else could there possibly be?
    In this video, I'm going to share with you the most MISSED diagnosis or the most OVERLOOKED cause of back, piriformis syndrome (butt/glute pain), and/or sciatica that I have seen in my career.
    If you stick around for the entire video, you're mind will be completely blown.
    For the first time in months or years... you'll finally connect the dots and have full clarity around what's happening.
    This video is guaranteed to open your eyes to a whole new world you never knew existed.
    Are you ready?
    Check it out!

    I had back pain for 2 years. I had many test that didn't show the evidence of injury that would suggest the severity of the pain. Drs just passed me along until I reached a pain specialist who wanted to do steroid shots. He said he would but he thought the pain neurological. I went back to my GP and requested PT. PT unlocked my muscles but the pain persisted. The PT sent me to PT that specialized in the mental aspect surrounding the pain. The pain was produced by my brain due to fear. NO ONE WILL BELIEVE ME THAT THE MENTAL PT WORKED....but it did...If someone has a stroke and needs to re-learn how to eat and talk we just accept the course of therapy. The 1st step in healing is accepting new information. Great video. I hope others take your message to heart.

    The mind blowing moment for me was when you mentioned having pain in different places and getting relief from certain activity but not getting relief later from the same activity. Its like i keep stumbling upon a solution only to not have it work when i try it again. Im definitely going to start thinking of my mental health since it seems this started after having covid and getting into a car accident which left me pretty bummed out. Thanks!

    So when you realize your patients pain is coming from the brain, how do you treat it? Would love an explanation or a video on how to treat it at home and techniques

    I checked out your self-diagnostic guide and I'm having a hard time pinpointing exactly what this is... I'm going on 2 years now and unable to work or get insurance and it's very depressing. I have the symptoms of high hamstring tendinopathy where I can't can't sit, squat, bend, etc. but I also have sciatica that developed a month or two after the initial pain and my whole leg is numb all the way to the bottom of my heel and left side of my toes. No back pain. My 4-stretch has my knee going to the floor (both), I'm a cross-legged sitter for sure. This all started from sitting in an awkward chair for a few months that felt like it was pulling my hamstring. I couldn't walk or stand for 6 months and can only stand and walk now and not much else. My leg is always numb and hurts when I move it in the ways the high hamstring tendinopathy diagnosis showed.
    Do you have any ideas to recover? :/

    Excellent video. I am a new mom, my baby is 8 mnths old and started having sciatica pain since a month ago. It has become unbearable at times and affecting my daily life caring for my baby and myself. Got prescribed nsaids and muscle relaxant which don't work. After watchinh ur videos, I suspect it can ve piriformis syndrome instead of low back pain. Now when I think of it, I feel the episiotomy during my delivery really started it. The pain from the stitches on the right side made me sit on my left side only. And it became a habit gradually to only sit on my left side and lift up my right side bum. With time, it put prrssure on my left piriformis muscle and now it has become a very painful condition. Wish I knew about all this before childbirth.

      @@drcharliejohnson Hi Dr. Charlie, thanks for ur respone, I m elated...😊.
      Well I had to beg my Primary care Dr.to prescribe me pain meds as he was reluctant for the reason I breastfeed. Finally we decided on stopping breastfeeding for 2 weeks and got prescribed naproxen 500mg twice daily with a muscle relaxant. I m really shocked that naproxen did nothing to relieve my pain and the Doc now wants me to take PT. However, it's more depressing and difficult for me as I have a baby to care and its really hard to take some time out for my own personal care. Do u have any suggestions. I would be so grateful!

      @@ShushiG2022 sorry to hear.
      As you can imagine- hard to give specific recommendations off the cuff without knowing all details. Resolving these issues takes feedback and iteration- so you will have to find some time to devote to this. That being said, I’d you have a plan- it can absolutely streamline the amount of time needed to resolve (vs. trying a bunch of random things)

    This was very useful! I definitely checked nearly all of the boxes so am fairly convinced a lot of my pain is 'brain' pain. Do you think there can also be an element of hypersensitive peripheral nerves/receptors? What would be the strategies for addressing this kind of pain. It's difficult to follow your usual model because it's hard to know what helps and what doesn't when the pain is so unpredictable and the flare ups are random or delayed. For example what would be the approach to return to running/sport. Is it just very gradual re-introduction?

    • @drcharliejohnson
      @drcharliejohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Anne! Knew you would like it 👍
      Wish strategy was that easy to lay out here. Overarching strategy is to use brain/body techniques to reduce overall threat and restore safety to the system. This includes addressing emotions around the pain and your reaction to it. Also, involves using the body in a way that does not sensitize the nervous system. As I mentioned in video- oftentimes cases are mixed… so need to consider inputs in both sides (brain and body).
      As for getting back to running- first need to make sure all motions which make up running are free and clear. Then, need to address fear, worry, concern related to running. I always recommend a gradual return to anything you’ve previously been challenged by- but sometimes that is not enough. There may be components of running that need mechanical improvement and or the mind is too threatened by it.
      Does this make sense?
      Difficult to give an exact roadmap here because of all the potential variables.

    Is it possible that my hip replacement caused my piriformis pain? I noticed on one of my mri report, written by the technician that, " A bulk of my Piriformis muscle is missing or was removed." WHY was the PM a bulk missing or removed? Is that procedure part of the of THR Operations? Was told by one its Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

    A PT exercise sent me to the hospital. I was squeezing a large exercise rubber ball between by thighs and holding it for a couple of seconds. The Therapist in charge thought I had Cauda Equina syndrome by the amount of pain I was in.. I Was in the emergency room for 12 freaking hours, to hear that ER doc, his medical colleagues and Neurologists couldn't agree whether or not to operate??? But I was not given a clear answer to what they found or thought they found.. quite weird and suspicious.

    This was very helpful for me. I checked almost every box under the brain. I believe and accept I need some mental PT, so is that a thing?

    • @drcharliejohnson
      @drcharliejohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks so much for watching- glad it was helpful. The best way I’ve found to help people in pain is to combine both movement and the mind (brain+body) approach. I’ve found this to be more effective that body only or brain focus only because often when folks are in pain they become fearful of (brain) movement (body).
      Hope that makes sense?
      No pressure, but I’d love the chance to help you understand how you can use both.
