I was sad when this closed on Broadway after only a month. One thing I would note, as much as I adore them our British friends have a little bit of a problem of exaggerating Southern (in this case Texan) accents to a point where it’s a bit much. Usually, it’s the er sound that they really try to hit hard. Might just be because I’m from the South, but no one sounds like that 😂 don’t get me wrong we Americans have a rep of butchering the British accent just my two cents on the matter!
I find this so interesting. when the show first opened here the accents were VERY strong the two leads have definitely dropped off on how strongly their accents are in the show now. I think part of it is whenever here in the uk you say ‘southern American accent’ it’s that thick accent they expect to hear. The show has also done so well here! Hoping for an extention 🤞🏻
@@teamjlg_ I hope so too! I listened their singing is great! Based on what you said maybe I listened to earlier recordings where the accent was too much. It’s much better here but on certain words it’s still a bit much. Again, probably a little over sensitive being that I am Southern 😂
I mean I’m from the north east of England, and have heard some of the accents in Billy Elliot, some of those have been utterly dreadful, I think it’s just universal that specific accents aren’t going to be perfect 😅
@@TheTradge fair enough. Just a side note I love the accents from the North East of England! I was lucky enough to travel there and around the UK on a school trip but for sure one of my favorites I came across. It was so unique and lovely to me!
@@TheTradge not from the north east but FULLY agree the accent can be overkill I’m from Birmingham and the accent that is attributed to us is the accent you get in Dudley/Wolverhampton and it irks me 😅
