The Jolly Spaghetti is sweet because the recipe was originally made to appeal to kids. And most people who grew up eating it are adults now so it sorta became a nostalgic meal for them over time, hence the popularity.
"Buko" means coconut, so buko pie has coconut meat fillings in it. The one you ordered is a peach mango pie.

Kafein, sweetJollibee spaghetti caters to Filipino kids, that may be, but our food, not all but many of them have sugary taste in them. They're masarap, but Filipino food aren't that appealing to foreigners' tastebuds. Most of them prefer Thai and Vietnamese among all Southeast Asian foods. Of course there's Chinese, Indian and Japanese food too that they love.

that is true, but it's also because during World War 2 there was a shortage of tomatoes (and a lot of bananas) and so banana was used instead; that's why there's banana sauce and why Filipinos use that instead of tomatoes.

with the jolly spaghetti, you either love it or hate it because it's not your typical spaghetti. it's Filipino style which is sweet that caters to the Filipino palette.

Pinoy spaghetti became sweet because during the war, we do not have any tomato ketchup hence, a lady created the Banana ketchup as an alternative.

@Madison lee mga pinoy need to stop having that mentality that “foreigners” have different tastebuds as Filipinos. It depends on the taste of the individuals not as a race. They do have canned spaghetti in the US called Soghetti-o that’s also sweet. Minsan ang bobo ng Pag iisip sa lahi natin eh.

Realistically, The best tasting spaghetti are the ones you get in Italy...Filipino spaghetti is really for us when we were kids and it’s only popular because now the those kids were grown ups and living in different countries, so when another country opens a Franchise of Jollibee there’s a really long line up of Filipino’s who are excited to taste it again because it’s more for nastalgic moments.

Its not spicy because mostly kid’s loves it. If its spicy kids wont like it. Most Filipino likes sweet spaghetti. You may try palabok also in Jollibee maybe you would love it than spaghetti.

I notice that typically, western countries do not like the joli spaghetti. I am not surprised though since the joli spaghetti is a very distinct filipino taste and it is an acquired taste for some people who are not used by filipino foods

  • @StephPalallos
    @StephPalallos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

It's not for everyone. The Jolly spaghetti was formulated for children and it was also based on the Filipino spaghetti which is sweet. Not only does it cater to our palette, but it is also economical compared to its typical Italian version. Instead of putting a lot of minced meat and tomato sauce and spices, Filipinos add ketchup, red hotdog, and sugar. It's definitely an acquired taste, but most of us grew up with it so it will always be a favorite! PS. I'm vegan now, so I just make a plant-based version of this. 😁

Fair review Ali. As a Filipino, I don't also like Jollibee's spaghetti. Usually I just order chicken, peach mango pie and sundae like what Harry ate. The sauce is what we call it Filipino sweet and style spaghetti sauce. It's just very plain and simple spaghetti not Italian style hahaha. Jollibee chain is present world-wide and every country, I think they have different variation of menu or twist. So your Philippines trip isn't complete without trying Jollibee hahaha. Please try Mang Inasal please. I'm sure you'll love their BBQ sweet style chicken.

Jollibee made their spaghetti sweet because their main target market for that particular product is the children. Most Filipino parents love to choose Jollibee as a venue for birthday celebration of their children. Thats why Jollibee offers kiddie party deal.

Jollibee Foods Corporation is a big fastfood company here in the Philippines. They own several fastfood chain brands, on top of Jollibee they also own Mang Inasal (which serves good halohalo), Red ribbon which is a cakeshop/bakeshop. And guess what?! they also own Chowking! :)
If you're eating in Jollibee again, I highly suggest you try their Palabok which is a popular noodle snack here in the Philippines! :)
BTW, the pie you had was Peach Mango Pie. Buko Pie has white filling and is made of coconuts.

FYI my friend. Jolly spaghetti is originally for a kid recipe as introduce it to the consumers many years ago. That is why the flavor of it is not really spicy (No strong flavor) because it is really made for kids.

Its a filipino spaghetti and incomparable to italian one. Filipinos likes sweet, sour & salty food. If you dive in to more filipino dishes youd understand why 😹

I think it's his time Jollibee comes up with another variant of spaghetti, the Italian style spaghetti. My parents cook and I grew up eating legitimate Italian style spaghetti and so the Filipino style spaghetti while occasionally I do get cravings, I will always choose the Italian style spaghetti my parents always cook for me.

Go to fine restaurants to have best spaghetti and pay more. Remember that is a fast food chain.
