- Deaths, arrests, detention, sickness, displacement, poverty and trauma. Words fall short in describing the situation in Myanmar since February 1, 2021. Pictures and videos of civilian areas being bombed, people being unlawfully detained and protests have been doing the rounds on social media ever since. According to the United Nations Human Rights office, at least 1,500 people have been killed during protests and thousands others in armed conflicts. Another 11,787 have been unlawfully detained in Myanmar during this period. The coup also forced thousands to flee from their homes and over 24,000 of them have found shelter in Mizoram. Team EastMojo travelled to Thaizawl, a small village in Mizoram which is now home to over 600 refugees from Myanmar. This documentary is an attempt to bring to the fore the plight, struggles and hopes of those living in refugee camps across Mizoram for over a year now.
