Of course he does! Every musician has and that doesn’t make them a bad singer or fake. He doesn’t need auto tune and nobody is making the claim that he can’t sing, however it’s completely false to claim he isn’t or hasn’t used it. He actually likes how an auto tune filter sounds (that’s why so many recorded tracks have some sort of filter on the background vocals). Sometimes it’s a style choice.
The Beatles, Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson all lip synced at some point in their careers (whether willfully or not, sometimes playing along and sometimes not), but somehow you think Tyler Joseph is immune to a little live correction pushed from production? Sorry but it's not how show biz works. Nobody is denying they could pull off this song masterfully, but many different singers and vocal coaches said they are sure a little help is being used here and there, it doesn't take away from their talent and their performance.
I've heard Tyler sing live and even with the pitch correction in this performance it still wasn't very far off from his natural voice he has an amazing falsetto

He has used digital effects on his vocals live and recorded to greatly characterize different perspectives and identities throughout his and the drummers work. The Line here could also be represented with having an off pitch, so the character he is playing right now would both use their vocal ablity to try to sing it perfectly but also use autotune to mask any inperfections. This is Clancy, a character defined by both joy and honesty but using an understanding of fear to push farther. The album "I am Clancy" is both the catchiest and the most explict to the broadest audience. Acting as a map with a legend.
Tyler Joseph is my favorite vocalist and lyricist. He is so unique. No one sounds like him. I’ve seen him so many times in concert and he’s one of those guys who sounds just as good live as on the album. ❤
As others have said, even if he's using autotune, Tyler can definitely hit those notes. He's been on tour for months, so maybe his voice was a bit worn out. Everyone seems caught up on the "using auto-tune or not" part. Either way, the vocals were fucking immaculate, and it was one of the best live performances I've seen all year. The people I really don't understand, are the ones that were claiming he was lip-syncing. I don't care how good you are, you can't lip-sync a scream like that and make it look as real as it was.
This song already makes me cry just because it tickles that part of the brain. I didn't know it was about his grandmother and dementia. I'm sobbing now. I just lost my great grandfather this year to it and I've lost 2 other great grandparents that were in the throws of it.
I can’t say I think there is auto tune on this, simply cus he uses the kind of “yodel” up into falsetto, that would make the auto tune crack a bit. You also cannot scream with a full auto tune or pitch correction on cus the auto tune will try to find the pitch in it, when you scream there isn’t a pitch per se which will make auto tune go ballistic, kinda similar with fry vocals breaking into a clean vocal. There’s many parts about the performance that are definitely highly produced, but what I can hear from this I can only really say I hear added reverb and some minor vocal mixing to work with the rest of the performance. They also always advocate for higher purity in the music, no more changes than what would work with the rest of the production. Also got to add in that the Elvis cover is over 12 years old and his vocal abilities have improved immensely, listening to live stuff he sings now it does actually sound very very close to this believe it or not.

I heard it before the official version of it and would love for them to do a full orchestra album on vinyl with this song on it. I understand they have it on as it was for the Game Awards and because it’s for Arcane. He for sure sings live at their concerts. Would love to hear him sing this live. I believe 2 songs were similar to the album (Smitherines and Chlorine, I believe) and 3 were "reconstructed", so they are different from the album versions (and different from the BBC Radio one versions that someone else recommended).
(As a side note, this entire soundtrack is fantastic. It's funny because I love Arcane but I don't play League of Legends at all...but the songs written for/with LoL, or used by them, even not just on these two seasons, are ALWAYS phenomenal to the point that I'm just like "okay, fine".)
Arcane has a lot of really great songs! The other two songs from this same performance were great too. I also do like it when you point out pitch correction etc. because I don't know enough about that to necessarily notice it by myself and it's nice to be able to develop a bit of an ear for that after having it pointed out. Have you heard of the band The Warning? They sound great live and the performances are fun to watch. If you ever take them up I'd suggest their dust to dust/dull knives (cut better) from Pepsi center. It has two different songs and they each have a different band member taking the lead on vocals.
Tyler does have an absolutely incredible voice now and then. Comparing his vocals from over 12 years ago, which were amazing, to now is absolute nonsense. He's grown so much as a vocalist. Making it seem like he needs auto tune now and the industry influenced him to do this is complete stupidity. This reaction reminds me of the saying "those that can't do teach".
I’ve had a lot of professional work as a singer. I understand you are sensitive about my comment around his auto tune and you have chosen to personally attack me. FYI I’m very experienced with professional level vocal engineering. Many artists like him are using it, it’s a part of the business. Because people are unable to hear it, the music business just lets the artists do it. It’s kind of like having someone do half of the lifting for you at the gym but it looks like you are doing all of it. It just makes life a little easier, everyone is afraid of imperfection these days, They would rather just tune everything with software to be safe. It’s not his fault, he is just keeping up with the Joneses.
I did a pitch analysis and there is zero doubt in my mind it’s auto tuned. I show it in my vid over on PATREON. Regardless, I still am a huge fan of him and the song. ✨🙏🏼
@TimWelchVocalStudio Tyler often uses different voice mechanisms for effect only, and always writes songs in reference to how they will be performed live. He has an incredible talent, and I do not believe it would have been his choice to use auto tune. Perhaps the performances used it in accordance with what the Game Awards wanted. There are SO many videos of Tyler and Twenty One Pilots performing live, that I think you would enjoy if given the chance.

I know you're getting some flak for pointing out that he's using auto tune or pitch correction -- I don't think that should be controversial to say -- but what I think is fascinating is that even if it wasn't, doing that COULD be a valid artistic choice at the Game Awards....because the whole storyline that it's applied to in the series (significantly even more directly in the MV - do recommend) is Viktor's. Viktor is (without too many spoilers), through his own invention and the magic-science (hextech) of that world, undergoing a sort of transhuman evolution, or transformation. From fully human -- but dying (even from s1 he is chronically and notably _progressively_ ill -- which I'm sure was a connection for Tyler) -- to an increasingly cyborg form that can survive and is more able to utilize hextech to its full potential...but is ultimately emotionally duller. Thinking about using autotune and pitch correction to sing a song about a character that's dying and in the process, becoming something more-than-and-also-less-human, is so conceptually interesting to me! I'm sort of delighted by it even if it wasn't an intentional link. Especially because (and to be clear I don't think it does at all here) it can sometimes feel a little less emotionally tapped-in to hear pitch-corrected vocals, which also syncs to Viktor's story. It definitely can lend vocals a very slightly compressed/digitalized effect, which connects the music to the mechanical theme. (I DO think there's a slight effect on the piano and vocal output - it sounds a little synthy to me and I think that IS on purpose for the same reasons.) Since fans of the show and gamers are likely to catch that, and along with the developers, writers and artists are most likely to be the people watching the Game Awards, I'm curious if that played into any decision making around that.

Honestly.. even if Tyler and Josh chose to make it more robotic in the end of the song they would be applauded for it. No auto tune. Theres live videos taken from the audience. The mic was on. It was the real deal. You could feel it in the scream on those videos. This isn't something new for him.
Interesting that you think it's autotuned! I just put a video out where I looked through the vocal stem and there is pretty much 1 note that looks tuned. I'd be interested to see how you came to the conclusion that it is heavily tuned!
I did a vocal pitch monitor extraction and found in both the original and in the arcane live performance it was very ‘pulled to the line’ as Fil at Wings of Pegasus would say. Also, it has that digital metallic tone to it which is a signature. Did you use the VocalPitchMonitor app? I find that not all programs get as accurate in the depth of the pitch analysis.
@ Interesting! I used Logic's stem splitter and there is only one note pulled to the line. I could very specifically hear him being off pitch on multiple occasions! Do you hear those at all, or does it sound perfect in your program?

I lost mine as well with another one not far behind. It's a great song, it's emotive. I took enough piano lessons (hated most of it, except for chord progression for improvisation techniques, thanks mom), and played woodwinds (thanks dad) in all types of ensembles through high school and early college but Engineering School ended all that, TO UNDERSTAND and RECOGNIZE 1) Timbre, 2) Emotion, 3) Pure Tone , 4) Consonant Enunciation, 5) Overtones, 6) Vowel Technique, 7) Lyrics, 8] Posture, 9) Placement, 10) straight tone/vibrato. Don't most people "LIKE" a voice/song due to its MUSICAL CONTEXT? "AT" Will never prevent me from recognizing these things. It's fine to be well informed about Nefarious things the Music Industry does, but dwell on it, allow it to influence what and who you listen to? There are FAR MORE Nefarious things than AT, like blocking you from getting to know a particular artist completely, turning an artist into something they are not, sacrificing vocal mastery and artistic impression for "fireworks, crazy flashing lighting, makeup, background vocals, over blown choreography, vulgarity", "sexual exploitation", etc.. Don't let these things we wish the music industry didn't do, prevent you from recognizing and enjoying Master Class artistry when you see and hear it. It's ok to trust your own EYES and EARS even if the music industry ENHANCES THE VIDEO to 4K and/OR ALTERS THE AUDIO from "what is YOUR perfection" to "what is THEIR perfection". It's a very emotional song and storytelling that hits home for me. AT HAS ZERO impact on that assessment. Let's don't make AT what a REACTION is about. Let's don't put asterisks beside the overall analysis. Its like putting an Asterisks next to Justin Gatlin's World Record 100m (eventually beaten by Usain Bolt) because "it was too windy" that day.
Late I know but I want to play devils advocate that im pretty sure the production was added for game awards stream (and thus the video snippet) ive seen filmed footage from the crowd and its about the same from what i can tell (still and amateur musican myself but i've listen to them for years even with my knowledge im decently tuned) they definitely use production elements in the studio thats just how music is made. But what I can say for certainty that Tyler's vocals have shifted and massively improved since the covers release and this song in particular is a great demonstration.
Well, as you can clearly see in the comments, "NOT making the REACTION about AT" has certainly MADE IT TOO MUCH ABOUT AT. It just throws a wet blanket over the REAL stuff and it forces fans to be defensive. Don't blame them. Just Tattoo "I'm against AT" on your forehead or wear a T-shirt or Baseball Cap (or put a "card" in the upper right hand corner of your REACTION video and point to it or wink at it) and then just please FOCUS on the unique characteristics of the Vocals. We get it, HOWEVER, when an artists Vocal Chords are connected to their heart, nothing can mask it, alter it, and AT sure as hell can't create emotion.
Complaining about full autotune I can understand, but I don't really see the problem with some pitch correction, it's just another tool, it's like saying don't use a microphone and speakers, just sing louder. If people enjoy it why not use it if you want to?
Auto tune is like bowling with the bumpers in the gutters. It doesn’t perfectly pull everything to the line unless you have t-pain level hard tune on. Check out Antares auto tune 11 pro and its functionality. It’s so sophisticated that you can set it to varying levels of intensity as well as have it turn off once your vibrato kicks in.
I always thought auto tune made singer sound robotic. I would have guessed he doubled his voice and put some echo on it. Nobody likes to hear that there favorite singer uses auto tune.
If you listen to Tyler speak, he has a lot of fry naturally in his speaking voice, so I don't think it's at all hard for him to drop into the fry in his singing voice naturally or deliberately. If you search youtube for 'Tyler Joseph introduces The Line' for example, you will hear it. :)
Everyone (big) uses pitch correction to some extent these days. However, I believe TØP relies on it very minimally. Pitch correction is essentially built into the systems used for large-scale tours, making it nearly impossible to find a major concert without some level of it. That said, there's a vast difference between "I open my mouth and the computer generates the entire song" and "the computer makes subtle, minimal adjustments." (It could be something as simple as extending a note with 3/10 of a second or adding just a little more vibrato/strain) For live shows, pitch correction happens in real time. Modern systems are so fast that the delay between the singer’s voice and what comes through the speakers is virtually none-existing -you’d have to listen very closely to notice. With advancements in AI, the process has become even smoother. So, why would an artist like them use it? 1. Consistency: Fans expect the songs to sound as close to the originals as possible. No artist is perfect 100% of the time, and it’s unrealistic to expect that. On off days, pitch correction can help ensure the performance still meets expectations. For example, they might increase correction for particularly difficult songs or challenging vocal parts. Imagine going to a concert only to hear an acoustic set because the artist wasn’t feeling great-it’s disappointing for fans and performers alike. 2. Vocal health: Even the best singers risk damaging their voices when they push too hard. Touring is exhausting, and pitch correction can help give an artist’s voice a break when needed. There are many singers who didn't take care of their voices and/or were pressured by the industry to just continue even though their voice was tired. Once your vocal cords are damaged, there's nothing that can be done, it's lasting damage (you can especially hear it when they sing high parts of songs and they can't hit the nodes anymore or simply change the whole song to avoid those parts all together). 3. Audience expectations: Unfortunately, perfection has become the norm. Because pitch correction is so widespread, audiences expect perfect performances. Artists who don’t use it risk being labeled as "bad singers," especially when compared to other artists who do use it -or even to their own polished studio recordings. Billie Eilish once explained it this way (I'm paraphrasing): A live performance will never sound as good as a studio version because, in the studio, you sing the song 50 times, and they stitch together the best bits to create the final version. It’s a collection of your absolute best takes, which just isn’t possible to replicate live.
@mkpetersen1607 there's a video of Tyler singing a Christmas song at his church in 2013 where he gets quite pitchy, but some of that could be because he was much younger and hadn't developed his vocal skills to where they are today. That, and it happens most often when he's holding back and not projecting, so that could also lead to flatter notes.

It's slightly annoying to immediately throw pitch correction or doubt the true skill of someone. It's just as easy for me to guess you do this for anyone who sounds good, but perhaps you've not heard Tyler Joseph (the singer in this performance) in a live concert and yeah, it's a tough pill to swallow when you hear he's just as good or better than the studio recordings. Seeing you 'react' with this approach does not make this video easy to watch or to return to your channel, as this was the first time seeing you and it's a shame because you've got great enthusiasm and seem passionate about music. You mention it, this heavy autotune (or maybe pitch corrected) but because of that it lacks connection and expression, it's too perfect. It's a beautiful song, but with this tuning it's (for me) not a human vocal anymore. I try not to get used to this sound because It ruins my musical hearing.

Everyone seems caught up on the "using auto-tune or not" part. Either way, the vocals were fucking immaculate, and it was one of the best live performances I've seen all year. The people I really don't understand, are the ones that were claiming he was lip-syncing. I don't care how good you are, you can't lip-sync a scream like that and make it look as real as it was.
This song already makes me cry just because it tickles that part of the brain. I didn't know it was about his grandmother and dementia. I'm sobbing now. I just lost my great grandfather this year to it and I've lost 2 other great grandparents that were in the throws of it.

I can’t say I think there is auto tune on this, simply cus he uses the kind of “yodel” up into falsetto, that would make the auto tune crack a bit.
You also cannot scream with a full auto tune or pitch correction on cus the auto tune will try to find the pitch in it, when you scream there isn’t a pitch per se which will make auto tune go ballistic, kinda similar with fry vocals breaking into a clean vocal.
There’s many parts about the performance that are definitely highly produced, but what I can hear from this I can only really say I hear added reverb and some minor vocal mixing to work with the rest of the performance.
They also always advocate for higher purity in the music, no more changes than what would work with the rest of the production.
Also got to add in that the Elvis cover is over 12 years old and his vocal abilities have improved immensely, listening to live stuff he sings now it does actually sound very very close to this believe it or not.

I believe 2 songs were similar to the album (Smitherines and Chlorine, I believe) and 3 were "reconstructed", so they are different from the album versions (and different from the BBC Radio one versions that someone else recommended).

(As a side note, this entire soundtrack is fantastic. It's funny because I love Arcane but I don't play League of Legends at all...but the songs written for/with LoL, or used by them, even not just on these two seasons, are ALWAYS phenomenal to the point that I'm just like "okay, fine".)
Arcane has a lot of really great songs! The other two songs from this same performance were great too. I also do like it when you point out pitch correction etc. because I don't know enough about that to necessarily notice it by myself and it's nice to be able to develop a bit of an ear for that after having it pointed out.
Have you heard of the band The Warning? They sound great live and the performances are fun to watch. If you ever take them up I'd suggest their dust to dust/dull knives (cut better) from Pepsi center. It has two different songs and they each have a different band member taking the lead on vocals.

Tyler does have an absolutely incredible voice now and then. Comparing his vocals from over 12 years ago, which were amazing, to now is absolute nonsense. He's grown so much as a vocalist. Making it seem like he needs auto tune now and the industry influenced him to do this is complete stupidity. This reaction reminds me of the saying "those that can't do teach".

@TimWelchVocalStudio Tyler often uses different voice mechanisms for effect only, and always writes songs in reference to how they will be performed live. He has an incredible talent, and I do not believe it would have been his choice to use auto tune. Perhaps the performances used it in accordance with what the Game Awards wanted. There are SO many videos of Tyler and Twenty One Pilots performing live, that I think you would enjoy if given the chance.

I know you're getting some flak for pointing out that he's using auto tune or pitch correction -- I don't think that should be controversial to say -- but what I think is fascinating is that even if it wasn't, doing that COULD be a valid artistic choice at the Game Awards....because the whole storyline that it's applied to in the series (significantly even more directly in the MV - do recommend) is Viktor's. Viktor is (without too many spoilers), through his own invention and the magic-science (hextech) of that world, undergoing a sort of transhuman evolution, or transformation. From fully human -- but dying (even from s1 he is chronically and notably _progressively_ ill -- which I'm sure was a connection for Tyler) -- to an increasingly cyborg form that can survive and is more able to utilize hextech to its full potential...but is ultimately emotionally duller.
Thinking about using autotune and pitch correction to sing a song about a character that's dying and in the process, becoming something more-than-and-also-less-human, is so conceptually interesting to me! I'm sort of delighted by it even if it wasn't an intentional link. Especially because (and to be clear I don't think it does at all here) it can sometimes feel a little less emotionally tapped-in to hear pitch-corrected vocals, which also syncs to Viktor's story. It definitely can lend vocals a very slightly compressed/digitalized effect, which connects the music to the mechanical theme. (I DO think there's a slight effect on the piano and vocal output - it sounds a little synthy to me and I think that IS on purpose for the same reasons.) Since fans of the show and gamers are likely to catch that, and along with the developers, writers and artists are most likely to be the people watching the Game Awards, I'm curious if that played into any decision making around that.

No auto tune. Theres live videos taken from the audience. The mic was on. It was the real deal. You could feel it in the scream on those videos. This isn't something new for him.
Interesting that you think it's autotuned! I just put a video out where I looked through the vocal stem and there is pretty much 1 note that looks tuned. I'd be interested to see how you came to the conclusion that it is heavily tuned!
I did a vocal pitch monitor extraction and found in both the original and in the arcane live performance it was very ‘pulled to the line’ as Fil at Wings of Pegasus would say. Also, it has that digital metallic tone to it which is a signature. Did you use the VocalPitchMonitor app? I find that not all programs get as accurate in the depth of the pitch analysis.
@ Interesting! I used Logic's stem splitter and there is only one note pulled to the line. I could very specifically hear him being off pitch on multiple occasions! Do you hear those at all, or does it sound perfect in your program?
I never would have guessed that there was autotune/pitch correction going on there! I'm glad it served to make the performance smooth rather than making him sound too robot-y, but I do hope to find videos with more of his raw singing voice like in that ukulele clip.
Now this is an interesting take. The other vocalists/vocal coaches I’ve watched said it isn’t, and there “seems” to be some auto tune.

I took enough piano lessons (hated most of it, except for chord progression for improvisation techniques, thanks mom), and played woodwinds (thanks dad) in all types of ensembles through high school and early college but Engineering School ended all that, TO UNDERSTAND and RECOGNIZE 1) Timbre, 2) Emotion, 3) Pure Tone , 4) Consonant Enunciation, 5) Overtones, 6) Vowel Technique, 7) Lyrics, 8] Posture, 9) Placement, 10) straight tone/vibrato. Don't most people "LIKE" a voice/song due to its MUSICAL CONTEXT? "AT" Will never prevent me from recognizing these things. It's fine to be well informed about Nefarious things the Music Industry does, but dwell on it, allow it to influence what and who you listen to? There are FAR MORE Nefarious things than AT, like blocking you from getting to know a particular artist completely, turning an artist into something they are not, sacrificing vocal mastery and artistic impression for "fireworks, crazy flashing lighting, makeup, background vocals, over blown choreography, vulgarity", "sexual exploitation", etc.. Don't let these things we wish the music industry didn't do, prevent you from recognizing and enjoying Master Class artistry when you see and hear it. It's ok to trust your own EYES and EARS even if the music industry ENHANCES THE VIDEO to 4K and/OR ALTERS THE AUDIO from "what is YOUR perfection" to "what is THEIR perfection". It's a very emotional song and storytelling that hits home for me. AT HAS ZERO impact on that assessment. Let's don't make AT what a REACTION is about. Let's don't put asterisks beside the overall analysis. Its like putting an Asterisks next to Justin Gatlin's World Record 100m (eventually beaten by Usain Bolt) because "it was too windy" that day.
Late I know but I want to play devils advocate that im pretty sure the production was added for game awards stream (and thus the video snippet) ive seen filmed footage from the crowd and its about the same from what i can tell (still and amateur musican myself but i've listen to them for years even with my knowledge im decently tuned) they definitely use production elements in the studio thats just how music is made. But what I can say for certainty that Tyler's vocals have shifted and massively improved since the covers release and this song in particular is a great demonstration.

It just throws a wet blanket over the REAL stuff and it forces fans to be defensive. Don't blame them. Just Tattoo "I'm against AT" on your forehead or wear a T-shirt or Baseball Cap (or put a "card" in the upper right hand corner of your REACTION video and point to it or wink at it) and then just please FOCUS on the unique characteristics of the Vocals. Auto tune is like bowling with the bumpers in the gutters.
It doesn’t perfectly pull everything to the line unless you have t-pain level hard tune on.
Check out Antares auto tune 11 pro and its functionality. It’s so sophisticated that you can set it to varying levels of intensity as well as have it turn off once your vibrato kicks in.

tyler has only ever used autotune as an effect (example, in air catcher) and hates ai so wouldn't be involved in a show that uses it (arcane does not)

It’s definitely a vocal technique common in the genre, Im not sure how much he consciously plans his technical choices though.
If you listen to Tyler speak, he has a lot of fry naturally in his speaking voice, so I don't think it's at all hard for him to drop into the fry in his singing voice naturally or deliberately. If you search youtube for 'Tyler Joseph introduces The Line' for example, you will hear it. :)

Everyone (big) uses pitch correction to some extent these days. However, I believe TØP relies on it very minimally.
Pitch correction is essentially built into the systems used for large-scale tours, making it nearly impossible to find a major concert without some level of it. That said, there's a vast difference between "I open my mouth and the computer generates the entire song" and "the computer makes subtle, minimal adjustments."
(It could be something as simple as extending a note with 3/10 of a second or adding just a little more vibrato/strain)
For live shows, pitch correction happens in real time. Modern systems are so fast that the delay between the singer’s voice and what comes through the speakers is virtually none-existing -you’d have to listen very closely to notice. With advancements in AI, the process has become even smoother.
So, why would an artist like them use it?
1. Consistency: Fans expect the songs to sound as close to the originals as possible. No artist is perfect 100% of the time, and it’s unrealistic to expect that. On off days, pitch correction can help ensure the performance still meets expectations. For example, they might increase correction for particularly difficult songs or challenging vocal parts. Imagine going to a concert only to hear an acoustic set because the artist wasn’t feeling great-it’s disappointing for fans and performers alike.
2. Vocal health: Even the best singers risk damaging their voices when they push too hard. Touring is exhausting, and pitch correction can help give an artist’s voice a break when needed. There are many singers who didn't take care of their voices and/or were pressured by the industry to just continue even though their voice was tired. Once your vocal cords are damaged, there's nothing that can be done, it's lasting damage (you can especially hear it when they sing high parts of songs and they can't hit the nodes anymore or simply change the whole song to avoid those parts all together).
3. Audience expectations: Unfortunately, perfection has become the norm. Because pitch correction is so widespread, audiences expect perfect performances. Artists who don’t use it risk being labeled as "bad singers," especially when compared to other artists who do use it -or even to their own polished studio recordings.
Billie Eilish once explained it this way (I'm paraphrasing):
A live performance will never sound as good as a studio version because, in the studio, you sing the song 50 times, and they stitch together the best bits to create the final version. It’s a collection of your absolute best takes, which just isn’t possible to replicate live.
@mkpetersen1607 there's a video of Tyler singing a Christmas song at his church in 2013 where he gets quite pitchy, but some of that could be because he was much younger and hadn't developed his vocal skills to where they are today.
That, and it happens most often when he's holding back and not projecting, so that could also lead to flatter notes.

Auto tune should be forbidden it’s creating something that is not real so fake fake fake I don’t like it
It's slightly annoying to immediately throw pitch correction or doubt the true skill of someone. It's just as easy for me to guess you do this for anyone who sounds good, but perhaps you've not heard Tyler Joseph (the singer in this performance) in a live concert and yeah, it's a tough pill to swallow when you hear he's just as good or better than the studio recordings. Seeing you 'react' with this approach does not make this video easy to watch or to return to your channel, as this was the first time seeing you and it's a shame because you've got great enthusiasm and seem passionate about music.

I always thought he used auto tune on his voice not to cover imperfections but as a style choice to purposely give it a digital, slightly inhuman sound. Like T-Pain: he can really sing but he uses auto tune as a creative tool.
He did a lot more in the early stuff. I'm so glad they did a new version of Lovely for Vessel because that Regional at Best version is just... If someone asks what my least favorite song is, that's it lol.

You mention it, this heavy autotune (or maybe pitch corrected) but because of that it lacks connection and expression, it's too perfect. It's a beautiful song, but with this tuning it's (for me) not a human vocal anymore. I try not to get used to this sound because It ruins my musical hearing.
