  • On this week's Mormon Newscast we take a look at Hulu's new program "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" which premiers in early September. We also look at the recent changes that shortened the temple endowment by 20 minutes making the ritual now around a half hour long. We wrap up the show updating you on several lawsuits involving the LDS Church as well as the recent outreach by the LDS faith in the form of a concert.

According to the attorneys’ logic, if I am an unhappy customer, I can’t sue a company if my perspective isn’t in line either the majority of their customers? Calling this an infringement on religious liberty goes out the window when you use untaxed dollars donated to a non profit to support for profit businesses. I hope the judge laughs in their faces.

I think it's still a difficult subject dealing with and accepting transitioned youth. It's not easy . I know a few families dealing with this. I always had a hard time dealing with the bathroom situation. A young woman using a bathroom and a boy who is transitioning to girl, enters , it's uncomfortable and awkward. He is still a male. Transitioned individuals also puts pressure on others to accept that. For a girl transitioning to boy, it's equally as hard. I personally don't understand it. Male to me is male. Female is female. I worry about the health and well-being of those youth who continue on in transition when not fully understanding. It's still new territory and difficult for many. I don't think they should be excluded from classes however. This new realm of transitioned youth will take years to analyze. There are also now, stories of transitioned individuals who now regret that decision. We still should love and be kind on any case .

I was a legislative assistant in AZ when one of the infamous "bathroom bills" was being discussed in committee. I visited the ladies room afterwards and I was literally the only cisgender person in that room. And I was not in ANY kind of danger! I wasn't uncomfortable at all! The church should be ashamed of these policies.

The Osmonds could always sell 🍎 apples for the Temple...... and maybe some toffee apples to remind the ladies to keep sweet..... then a grand finale of the whole audience in a very gospel type production rocking out and singing to the apostate or to those taking the tithing lawsuit 'One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch babe'.... well, they seem to make things up as they go along. Maybe revive the jumpsuit and perspire so you can wear those garments to inspire!

To me, the new handbook turns back the clock and reinforces the unfounded stereotype that was bantered about in the 60s and 70s, portraying LGBTQI people as pedophiles preying on children. So disheartening that a religion continues to demonize those that demonstrate tremendous courage in living as their authentic self. At the same time, independent and autonomous thinkers are harder to control, so why not cause the faithful to fear and dismiss people that choose authentic self over pretending to be something that they are not.

All of the litigants believed in the principle of tithing enough to give the church large sums of money. Unless the church has written proof that the litigants have not one smigdeon of belief in the church's teachings, the lawyers cannot prove they are non believers. There's not an intelligent Mormon on the planet who doesn't have a problem with something the church does.

The word, “immutable,” came up in relation to the temple changes and I think y’all nailed it.
I think that definition should be applied as to why the trans members are facing down clarification from the church. No one should be judged or treated differently based on immutable characteristics like sex and race. And those legal and social protections should exist.
There is no proof for a, “born this way,” genetic trigger for sexual orientation or sexual identity. Meanwhile, the trans claim is gender identity is mutable and often contrary to immutable sex.
I don’t think ANYthing mutable or a choice should be protected from criticism. I don’t think religion should be a protected class either. If I choose to be Mormon or not or to pray to Moloch or not, those choices having natural social consequences, let them come.
Maybe there’s a discussion about age limits and protections for minors, but the philosophies and theologies as a whole shouldn’t be immune.

My favorite podcast!!!! Thanks for sharing that about swingers. Had a conversation tonight with my less active neighbor. He was telling me how stupid the world is getting and mentioned these tik tok moms and their new show. I invited him back to church. He said he’s coming back because he’s worried for his kids and knows the church is good for them.
I used to think you were all clowns (I still kinda do) but really you’re giving the LDS Church attention. You’re keeping people in the church cuz they don’t want to end up bitter like you all. Thx again!!!

The described policy against trans people benefits top church leadership and hurts individuals. The policy perpetuates the MISINFORMATION/LIE that LGBTQ persons are more likely to be child abusers, and in doing so, tries to imply that the leadership's exclusive and cruelty towards trans individuals is justifiable. Furthermore, the church leadership can say, look at us; we're just trying to protect children and women. In reality, the church policy is for local leaders who know about or strongly suspect abuse to call the church's law firm rather law enforcement. Most often, abuse is NOT reported to law enforcement. Abuse victims may find themselves expected to attend services or activities at their local ward or branch with the abusers who may continue teaching or other callings. The well-being of an allegedly " repentant" abuser is often treated by ward and stake leaders as more important than the well-being of the individuals who suffered the abuse. Lastly, the top church benefits when trans people do not attend or leave the church, because top church leadership would prefer not to deal with the people they want to exclude.
