Demanding that members never criticize leaders ʻeven if the criticism is true’ is basically the definition of a cult.
Yupperz
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Important though for everyone to remember that criticism of leaders is not appreciated in Baptist parishes, the Catholic church, schools & clubs too, so the lines of ‘cults’ are really more broad than people realize. People don’t mind the rule as long as it supports the accepted beliefs of the tribe or group.
Nelson will be remembered as the "all about me" guy
For sure 🎉
Narcissist
Most Cringe 😬
As a nevermo, I have often smiled or, less commonly, chuckled to myself while watching Mormonish, Mormon Discussions, etc. but I've never laughed out loud until I saw No. 48 -- "Boyd's Little Factory."
Welcome to Mormon land!
Same!!
Right?! Cultch's video is hilarious
Any yet it was so gross because he was speaking to minors
There is no reason why these leaders need to be so focused on masturbation. It is a normal human experience.
Several years ago my son needed to come home from his mission, and don't get me started on all the sadness, shame and difficulties that he and we dealt with for a very long time. Some time later he told me about a video the missionaries saw on their first day with Holland telling them never to go home. I searched and found the audio online, and to this day when I hear Holland threatening and shaming those kids my blood still boils. Everyone needs to hear the incredibly damaging words of this man.
I so agree with you and I was triggered by this. Why in the world to Mormon missionaries have to follow this regime of having to go at 19 and it has to be for two years? Why can’t the church just leave it open to anytime in one’s 20’s? What if they want to stay longer than two years? Or just one year? Why not have missions that focus on serving those who are in poverty? We all know the answer - the mission is meant to break the individual and cement the indoctrination process so that these missionaries will return home, reproduce, and pay tithing for the rest of their lives.
I am so sorry. It's ridiculous
Its free labour and salesmen.
Do they tell people about a rock in a hat.😢
It's so awful, I'm so sorry your family was out through that and your son had that weight because of Holland! 😢
I don't care the circumstances the victim is never to blame for the abuse.
Yes! 💯
I agree That was horrifying!
When Rebecca's muted herself after the Ballard "don't talk to much" quote: golden!!
Indeed. The coffee video is truly peak cringe.
True. And false doctrine.
That lady who gave the coffee talk went home and ate meat
I just rolled my eyes when she cried - so ridiculous. There are more things to worry about in the world than a cup of coffee. She’s probably one of those people who are addicted to sugar in order to get a sugar buzz. I have seen so many LDS folks eat enormous amounts of cake, ice cream, chocolate but that is okay because they are avoiding tea and coffee.
Oh and not to mention the Swig drinks!
🤣😂🤣
I am sorry I missed the Live airing of this. With that being said, I am so glad coffe Tears made it in lol ☕😢.
One of the best episodes of the year!
Thank you Mormonish for this spectacular episode. I am glad there is a condensed video to find so many of the damaging and hurtful things that lds leaders have said.
Give brother Joseph a break, but i can't get an inch of understanding from my family.
Excellent point. And true.
Brad Wilcox. Sigh. Holding my forehead. Making sure my brains don't slip out.
Omg I am a HUGE fan of this podcast and this is such an AMAZING presentation that I really needed to see at such a time as this. I struggle with mental health issues on the regular, and this is the BEST medicine I could have ever asked for or imagined. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Watching this on Sunday- and you’re taking away my Sunday Scaries-you guys brighten my soul!
I'm only on No. 45, but "I think they look like a cool motorcycle gang" just made me absolutely cackle. 😂
Why is it that those that speak in Gen Conf look like they belong on Disney World's Carousel of Progress. They are all so mechanical and robotic.
*HAW!* Accurate! I think that both the people and their talks are run through editing and rehearsal processes enough that any individual uniqueness or personality quirks or honest expression have been homogenized. I’ve been wanting for *decades* to get my hands on just the women’s wardrobe department and throw in some prints or some whimsical jewelry. Maybe some naturally textured hair? Let’s maybe move more in the direction of The Tiki Room/It’s a Small World and less towards pasty automatons.
Just noticed after the Neil Anderson’s plea to give Brother Joseph a break, there was quite an awkward pause while he awaited the laughter he so desperately craved and expected…
Members worship the "prophet" while the "prophet" worships the profit $$
This is not a non-profit church.
Same as the sda
“It was easier for him to see the light when he would, uh, take that position”…Russell M Nelson can’t even bring himself to replicate something as patently ridiculous as putting his entire face into a top hat 😂🤣😂
You guys really brighten my day!
This episode was fantastic!
Thank you for your support!!!
Holland is ruthless!
You didn't focus on that, but what stood out to me was Wendy's moment (42 on your list), when she said she was praying for us to have moments of anguishing desperation. How kind of you, Wendy, but no thank you.
Nothing better than cake!
Stress eating cake is not a bad security blanket....
Maybe the LDS just need to gorge on cake because heaven forbid they drink a cup of coffee. Hmmmm...I wonder which one is less healthy?? 😉
Top ten cringeworthy moments in Mormon history:
1. Polygamy
2. Polygamy
3. Polygamy
4. Polygamy
5. Polygamy
6. The stone in the hat nonsense
7. Joseph Smith's 1832 revelation calling for the consecration of the property of the Gentiles to the Saints
8. The initiation of the Danite band in 1838
9. The introduction of the blood atonement doctrine and practice
10. The Mountain Meadows Massacre
😂 Rebecca nails it with the Grinch reference!
That got the most laughs from me!
Omg, Landon has the best takes. Love it
That talk by Holland to the MTC is horrific!!! He is absolutely a horrible person. I hope that none of the missionaries inflicted self harm due to this talk. Horrible
I really enjoyed this episode. Thank you ❤
What Bednar did to that little boy was sick!
The principle that sister Bednar's husband taught, I think is very good And helpful. However, the venue, the circumstances, And a complete lack of awareness of the child was terrible. Just think, this video is on the Internet forever And his associates can always find it. He'll probably have a mental stumbling block for the rest of his life.
OMG I’m only two in and I can’t believe it gets worse!
Holland at the MTC hands down
Yes, so cruel
❤ "Susan's Husband"
Russell M Nelson is absolutely correct about one thing…it DOES take effort to believe all this crap.
I “knew” I was going to die. But he didn’t die…
He’s not much of a prophet, I’m thinking. 🤔 😂
(I suppose he also “knows” the BoM is true and that JS is a prophet of God.)
Great job guys
I absolutely love your show ❤
You being us truth
But most of all you bring Humor which is so important in this toxic world we are living in .
This was awesome!!
If you drop your rock in the toilet, should you put it in a baggie of rice?
I literally spit my drink when I read that.
I was in the MTC when Holland gave that talk. I think it was my very first Sunday devotional, in the second half of December of 1999. I distinctly remember it. It was dead silent after he gave it. Oh the manipulation!!!
Totally manipulative, culty, and downright dangerous to the mental health of those missionaries. I hope you and the others are all ok!
J Annette Dennis single-handedly offended and lied to more women than any other ever. Think about it!
There's been big prophet birthday celebrations before. Remember Wilford Woodruff sealing 178 women to himself in the temple? Now that's a classy party!
Good point!
The Monson ear wiggle reminds me of my grandfather who did goofy stuff like that all the time!
I loved Rebecca’s southern-drawl sounding pronunciation of Landon’s name while reprimanding him when he made that comment about the nipples, while at the same time trying not to choke on her cake…”Layundon” 😂 1:34:00
Great show! I think the “Little Factory” talk takes the cake!!
You can think celestially, or you can think honestly, but you can't do both.
Rebekah and Landon are so in tune!😂😂😂
I think Nemo has a copy of a document signed by Oaks approving electroshock therapy.
He is in league with the A.I.C spelled backwards. They use it in their mind control experiments. So that makes sense.
I’m surprised and disappointed that “let’s go shopping!” didn’t make the cut!
Yeah in GC when Brad got promoted. Did u c how he ran up there b 4 they changed their collective mind???😂😂😂😂😂😂
Brad Wilcox….what the Hell? Also, cool canopic jars, Landon!
I picked those up in Egypt. I was told they hold the vital organs of Abraham himself!
@@mormonishpodcast1036 I used to live in Egypt.
Thank you.
2:15:03 Ezra Taft Benson had a pretty big one for his 90th birthday that can be found here on YT but I don't think it was that extravagant either.
Great collab! I would choose Pres. Nelson asserting the 2015 policy was from God, devastatingly cringe!
Thank you.
I'm loving the crossover. This time it reminds me of the DCEU, Batman and Wonder Woman asks Superman for help.
1. Has Nelson dabbled in movies? He's a doppelganger for the Emperor in Star Wars.
2. Look at Nelson's eyes. They're the same as the Emperor's eyes, especially when Nelson was talking about celestial bodies and kingdom. I guess there's no Celestial Seasoning tea available there.
3. How about men getting their own planets in the Celestial kingdom? I'll convert when this is guaranteed.
Do not underestimate the ability to wiggle one's ears. On another note, the coffee story is a repeat of a situation President Kimball wrote about decades ago.
Absolutely LOVE your joyful anger!! :) As usual, you guys kill in this great episode. Brad Wilcox is a master fear-monger and a master deflector! As an astoundingly "missing the point" master deflector, Brad Wilcox has a gift from god... simply amazing!
It’s hard not to be angry about some of these but we try!
Last year I read “Obscure Mormon Doctrine” by Chris Jensen. 😮
A man who has not served a mission is a menace to society
Especially Russell M. Nelson. 😂
#30
Bednar: Remember what got you over here?
Kid: I listened to you.
That's not what I learned in seminary 😂
❤ this podcast...
Hold on.. I have to crunch my water bottle. Ok continue. 😂
Thanks!
Thank you! We appreciate your support!
That clip of holland talking to the missionaries just broke my shelf
Yeah rough to hear for sure!
Missed #27. 2 bad 4 me. Just wanted to let Holland know his tapir drawn carriage awaits once his boat docks...
I kept thinking we’d hit rock bottom, but the stories just kept coming! AGONY. More than once I expected to look up & find Rebecca curled up in the fetal position, rocking back and forth, crumbs & frosting mingling with her tears…
Wasn’t Brad Wilcox best buds with Jodi Hildibrant? Wasn’t she a believer?
I think instead of “Think Celestial”, I’ll “Think Outer Darkness” as that is my most likely outcome based on all of this stuff…
This is your best episode - the leaders just needed an open mic 😂
I laughed, but I also felt angry, sad, and ... misled.
Brad Wilcox, Holland, Nelson, Oaks...they live in their protected bubbles where every walks in tiptoes around them and takes everything they say as a scripture. Power corrupts. Pride comes before fall.
How did we not know that they were not true apostles and prophets ?
I never even considered that when I was growing up in the church , I honestly don’t understand how they continue to get away with all thier shananigans
😂😢😮😅
Great show as usual guys, my only complaint is not enough Ezra Taft Benson LOL, though I do understand you guys said you were going for modern things.
IMO the worst one is the Gordon Smith one, because that one had significant real world impact beyond the church, as he was a sitting U.S. Senator making significant foreign policy decisions. So glad the voters of Oregon made him an ex-Senator by the time he was speaking to the Church leaders.
Grew up Baptist. My own Aunt was Baptist Minister...Hello!!!!!!!
#2…. Omg!!!!😡🤬
1:01:55 How dare Holland say “stay in the boat”. Those of us who leave do not do so lightly. We are clinging to the edges of the boat to stay in, but the storm (lies/deception) is so great that we are THROWN OUT of the boat.
In 2009, my 15-year-old special-needs son passed away. A friend which is black play the piano and sang at the service. When he finished my Bishop stood up and said thank you. That was lovely or something like that and we have Gladys Knight. I almost fell out of my seat. I was so embarrassed that he would say something like that. I can’t get past that remark. I forgot to say this friend was not a member of the church. And my youngest son is also black. I adopted all three of my children as a single mother best life ever.
Oh wow! That is certainly cringeworthy!
Bad news Bednar. Not my fav....
What Holland is saying about he would tie up missionaries to keep them on their mission. Although I benefitted from it an elder was sent home because he wore cowboy boots. I am sure a good number of missionaries were sent home for trivial things. You could send out a call out to get peoples personal stories about being sent home for silly reasons.
there are about 20 special youth productions with cringe moments
In 2009 I had just left my husband with my two little kids. I was looking to general conference to give me inspiration. The part from min 4-5 of pres Monsons talk school thy feelings o my brother angered me so much I think that might have been the beginning of the end for me even though I stayed in the church for 15 more years 😬. But anyway, wiggling ears was really fun. Counseling a couple where the husband threw a toy at the wife so hard that it brain damaged their infant son to forgive and work it out was awful to me. Especially in a culture where men are the ones in the right and women need to submit. It was awful in my mind.
That's your story. But You didn't include your x-husband's version and what he would say.
Interesting your view That you think the culture is that men are always in the right. The church for the last two decades, at least, have padded the women on their little heads, patronize them, talk about how godly they are, how their love is closest to the saviors love, And how entitled they should be just because they're female, And how much support single women should get with children. Men are almost always labled as the root cause and at fault in the church. The women typically get a pass… Because, well, they're female.,
Not my original thoughts, but what I have observed over many years in the church.,
"...with MY ywo little kids."
Nope, they are his also. So You took your and his two kids away from him? If he is in jail for a few years, then you may be justified. But if he's not well, I pity your ultimate fate.
Yeah, that's your story. But what's his story, what is his version of it? Says a lot that you didn't give his side, doesn't it?
I'm sorry and this will offend some but every time I look at R M Nelson he just reminds me of the devil aka Satan. He has always given me the heebie-jeebies. Not a good vibe there. Anyway, this has been an awesome episode!!!
I have always gotten a creep vibe from him- since day one. Now he just looks like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons.
So, does it explicitly mean no genitalia or could it mean just no reproductive rights in another way?
I think it’s all BS, but I am wondering…
Of course there is a method people used Nostradamus for instance of scrying using a dark mirror or a pool of water in the dark with only one candle. The stereotypical fortune teller looking into their crystal ball. In ancient cultures they use an emerald stone. The concept today is more closely thought of as sorcery or witchcraft. These methods were used in early America in belief systems where west African native American and remnants of conjuring that came over from Europe formed a magical practice. I am sure the church would not want it said they engage in dark magic and it is clear they don't because they demonstrate zero ability to see into the future.
Well, I just watched the 100tg birthday celebration recording, may I add Oaks/Eyring fanboy conversation from it? It was really uncomfortable to watch...
True. Celebrity worship. I think they're such a bubble that they can't even see it
I’m sorry the coffee clip is CRAZY
I have to take issue here, Bonnie Cordens
talk was not cringe worthy.
It was also not faith promoting. IMO it was sinister and vile. The lengths one goes to prop up an illusion of perfect Mormon family is mind boggling and sickening.
That poor little boy will never have justice.
Episcopal Church women priests. Jewish religion female rabbis. Jesus female disciples. YWCA...I could go on but my advice to this sister is FACT CHECK
The Hosanna Shout idea came from the old time Methodists in the 19th century.
You all are great, love the content. Please never have Dives on again. He did a lot of work, but he sounds like AI with only elementary educational videos to draw from. Everything is wrong about the way he talks.
So God damn glad that my boys didn’t go on missions! After listening to Eldon Tanner it made me sick!!! 😡😡😡
These guys didn't have to go very far back in history to get 50 examples of cringe! I thought they were going to hit some of Brigham Young's humdingers.
Richard G Scott OMG!!! Horrible.
Epic episode! Thank you!!
Everytime ready to duck out encounter more ignorance. Can't shut up. Im like DUH!!!!?????
I bet Bradley has his temple washing plaque and pitcher.
Kevin Hamilton was not a former president of BYU. I think you’re thinking of Kevin Worthen.
Someone told me the new nickname is .. "CoJCoLDs" (churchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints) or short for "COLDS"
We former members who left in the first wave, around the 2000s, used the acronym all the time.
@@carolyearsley really? i never knew!!LOL
How can the q15 be seers if they don't use rocks?
Very good point
Wendy wasn’t the prophets wife for 2 more years after that talk, so I agree with Landon- why was she talking?? I’ve never heard a spouse give a conference speech!
the little factory ... O.M.G! ... thats like cringey grandpa giving a talk .. ick
