    All of the above. I got offered a payement lower than minimum wage and having to work extra hours. I was getting payed in expierience lol. Another one, people asking constant free advice or even a free design. Or what colour their walls should be :) (I don't know, whatever colour you like I suppose, I'm not a stylist per se)

    But wait there's more.... Not just product that's out of stock, but also lead-times up to a year sometimes, depending on where product is made, global supply chain issues and suppliers that can't give you answers; then of course because there are so many different interior design shows on tv, everyone is an armchair designer and has an uneducated opinion, especially in the commercial world where there are numerous eyes all looking at the same project; also working with gruff contractors who don't share your vision for beautiful things; deadlines, deadlines, deadlines...; budget constraints; upper management/execs' whims and changes; people wanting what they can't have....I could go on and on.... But all those challenges are sometimes like a puzzle and you're the private investigator and problem solver - that's what makes it so interesting.

I got a hold of the director of the program and he LITERALLY told me “we don’t have any classes on paint colors of carpet choice.” It made me feel like he thought I was just some stupid little girl.

    Im in my spring semester of interior design school and I don't feel as though my portfolio is ready until my senior projects are finished in May. So when would be a good time to apply? Should I wait for my senior work to be my portfolio, which are the ones Im most proud of, or go ahead and start now? Im worried employers won't be as interested in it as it is now

    • @SandraJessicaChavez
      @SandraJessicaChavez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would wait until your senior projects are completed because they’re most detailed and recent projects to show employers (also Im sure you spend SO much time on those projects that you would want to showcase them). You can definitely start preparing it now so that when it’s time to apply, you just plop in those last projects. That’s what I did!

    Yoooo me after watching that people don't treat interior designers with respect, i was like "idgaf cuz i be sure making that money." Me after watching they offer a low salary, I was like "well now i don't know if i wanna become an interior designer since there aren't that many jobs offered and if there are, they'll start at a low wage." Im so screwed. but anyways, i feel like if an interior designer wants to earn a high income, they would have to conduct their own business, or idk. im not an expert, so cant speak.

    Less than 0.5% of the population has a need for an Interior Designer. You need to be above average in talent to make a decent living in this business. Do not think that because it's a College course that does not require Math or Science that it will be a good choice. There are 1000's of people walking around with an Interior Design Degree that are under-employed or un-employed. Sorry for the reality check.

Don’t just take my word for it, make an appointment to have a chat with a licensed Interior Designer in your area, and ask them how many people they employ, then ask them where they got their schooling, and ask them realistically what are the chances of getting a job in your area?
