I have 2 of them as managed to get another one brand new last year. I think quality control was the biggest issue here. You could have a perfectly working or some *meh* ones just based on luck. The 7 was better but I clearly remember the 7 pro I got was hot as hell, returned it, and the regular 7 I got after was working like a charm with no heating issues. Same processor but not the same feeling. The 8 seems more consistent, I hope for a great 9!

I honestly loved my 6 pro for about a year. It was perfect until the update to android 13. Once the update dropped, it messed up the phone too much for me to use comfortably. I couldn't play any media on the device and being able to take photos and videos was inconsistent. Sometimes the camera app would stop working all together and I'd have to restart my phone. Sometimes it'd freeze and restart itself. Even factory resetting the device couldn't fix it.

They might be the more budget version, but they seem to have better releases with fewer bugs and issues unlike the bigger phones they came from. The pixel 4 had a better camera than literally every pixel that came after it, and I've racked my brain trying to understand why the hell that could possibly be. I've come to the conclusion that Google degrades the pixel's camera little by little over the entire year following the release of its newest pixels, That's the only logical reason why a person who owns a pixel 4 and a pixel 8, can take photos with each, and then compare the photos side by side, wont see much of a difference. Its because the pixel 4s camera isn't capable of capturing the kind of photos which we remember them capturing! Nobody else notices, because they degraded the cameras capabilities over time, and through so-called updates.

Pixel 4xl could have been a legend device if google had incorporated the below things
    1. 4500 mAh battery (instead of 3700 mAh)
    2. Brighter display (1000 nits instead of 450 nits)
    3. Ultra wide lens on the back and front.

You've likely already called out on this one, but I'll say it anyway: You mentioned the Pixel/Pixel XL as being carrier locked to Verizon. I was already a Google Fi customer and bought my PXL through the Fi store to replace my Nexus 6. The phone was easy to get unlocked as well. I still use the PXL when I just plan to snap lots of pictures due to original quality for life, I Even added the limited blue Pixel (non-XL) version to my collection.
I really, really, liked the P4XL. I wish the soli sensor and face unlock of that version continued into later phones. The only reason I didn't keep my P4XL was the screen broken and the cost to fix it was just too high, trade-in value, even with the damage, was a better option, and I was really interested in getting my hands on the then new P6P with its Tensor chip.
I currently daily the P8P, it's the best general use Pixel yet. And I do use the temp sensor regularly with Fitbit since the update that enabled body temperature.
But just a note on the Pixel 5 and why it was a downgrade from the 4. I still believe that was a plan to make the first phone with the Tensor chip look better than it really was. Had the 5 gotten similar updates as Pixels of previous years, their Tensor chip could not have exceeded the 5s performance. So, when the 5 came out they had to downgrade it because even the Pixel 4 was sometimes faster than the 6.

Had to lock and open my phone again for it to work. This happens a lot, especially when playing youtube in the background with youtube premium. Looks like that Tensor G3 aint all it's supposed to be. I´ll be waiting out for the Pixel 10 with the TSMC chip

Pixel 3xl is my favorite. I've owned 3xl, 6xl, 7xl and 8xl. At the time, I felt like the 3XL had the biggest edge over other phones. The selfie camera was next level. In a lot of ways it's better than the pixel 8 XL current selfie camera. I'm going to always miss the rear fingerprint sensor. Google? Are you listening? No one needs a face sensor. No one needs a fingerprint sensor on the screen. With the rear fingerprint sensor it was seamless and the phone was unlocked before it even left my pocket. You can't beat that with the current offering.

Mine wasn't on this list... the Pixel 3a. Simply, because it lived up the "Nexus" line up the most. Affordable, amazing camera, headphone jack and good software. I'm also a big fan of polycarbonate bodies like the 3a, and they made it even better by putting a metal plate in it for extra weight and stability. I didn't care that it had a mid-tier processer, it never slowed me down and the battery life was good. 3a joins my top 3 best phones ever, up there with iPhone 4S and Nexus 4

So far, I have had all pixels from the very first one to the newest one, updating every year and switching from the normal ones to the XL ones then back to the normal ones then to the pro ones. Number one on my list, if it had slightly better battery life the 4 XL followed very closely by the eighth pro and number three would be the 2XL as I’ve never had any of those screen issues and butter such as great!

The Pixel 6a alone is a GREAT phone in 2024. I know both the 6 and 6 Pro were disappointing with overheating and the 6 Pro's other issues. And the 7 series were even worse with overheating! So 100% agree on the 8 line-up to trump them all. Looking forward to the rumoured Pixel 8a just around the corner now :) I only tried the 3a from previous Pixel's and it had horrible battery life but a cute form factor.

Completely agree with the rated order here.
I am a very very Very proud owner of the OG Pixel XL & 3XL. Absolutely loved the devices. Surprisingly, when the Android 10 Beta arrived on the OG Pixel XL, it worked better than my 3XL. Unfortunately the phone just died out of no where & just didn't boot up after a couple of months of lying unused :(
Still have my 3XL although the glass on both the front & back are completely shattered 🙈 then moved out of the Pixel line due to the Tensor Chip. Wish Google had stuck with Snapdragon chips. 4/5 years of s/w updates is perfectly good time & in general Most people use their phones for that long only since the batteries begin to age drastically, etc. I bet No one is going to be using their Pixel 8s for 7 years LOL.

I’ve always been a fan of the hardware division for Pixel, but there is no reason why the phones should be heating up using TH-cam or the native camera app to the degree (pun not intended) they do. I took advantage of getting a pixel 8 from google for $399 and after one day of use I started having some serious heating issues. It’s a shame because the device looks excellent imo. Hopefully they get that figured out 🤞
