Brandon, I installed an external Samsung 2 TB SSD drive in my first MPC Key 61 and connected my laptop, installed all of the drivers and software, registered the MPC Key 61 and followed all of the steps exactly. I put the MPC Key 61 in controller mode to try to format the hard drive so I can use it in the MPC Key 61 and when I went to file explorer, I didn't see the hard drive in the MPC Key 61 to format, only the hard drive in the laptop. I was chatting with on-line support ( which is horrific by the way) and they told me the MPC Key 61 needs service on the SATA drive and I informed them it was brand new, I took the keyboard back to Guitar Center and they replaced it with a brand new one. I followed all of the steps again on the new MPC Key 61 and the same thing is happening. The laptop doesn't see the newly installed hard drive so I can format it and neither does the MPC Key 61. When I go to project/ save it only shows the internal drive, not the 2 TB hard drive Can you help me with this? The Akia support team said they would get back to me and it has been a week and there has been no response. If I can't install the hard drive, I can't keep this thing Let me know if you know how to help me have the keyboard recognize the new hard drive. Maybe you have a work around The hard drive is a SAMSUNG SSD 870EQ SATA DRIVE 2.5 2 Terabyte Thanks in advance sir!
Ive watched dozens of mpc tutorials and you were vest at articulating the layered way to add tracks to create a proper sequence. Thanks for helping to make it click. Id love to see you do this again for the mpc3 update using the key37
This is an extremely good tutorial. Your thorough and relaxing teaching style is unique on youtube. I've had mine for a year, and you still taught me something I wasn't aware of (the eyeball icon, didn't even see that, and there's the effects, have been looking for that forever, thanks).
I came from using the maschine ecosystem so when i got my mpc key61 i was like a fish out of water nothing made sny sense at all i actually learned to lay down a track watching one of your tutorials 3 months ago so i appreciate it your tutorial was better than akais...im used to using expantions on maschine its much easier as far as taking a sample like a horn or synth patch in the expansion and spreading it out on the keys i know with akai its keygroup or something like that...but if you could do a video making a simple beat using just sounds from an expansion pack would be great i know about using the drum kits but its using the other stuff i get stuck on thanks in advance!
Excellent and easy explained for anyone to understand. I really appreciate you Brother for giving us this knowledge for free, few are willing to do that. One love from Cape Verde Islands, YaH's peace and blessing
hi... this video is majestic under the point of view as tutorial... take my advice: next time, if you leave the Take5 keyboard upper the MPC Key you won't have any problem with the focus of your camera!!! great video.... even better than AkaiPro itself
Love it mate, helped me immensely when unpacking the new toy. Only thing that’s still got me perplexed is when I plug in an instrument (guitar) and go to audio, I choose “input config” and chose channel 1 it shows sound is coming through and it’s armed… but I can hear anything. How can I fix this?
Great to hear…try going into the Sample area from the menu and ensure “IN” is selected. That should turn on the monitor function for you to hear whatever is coming through your inputs, in this case the guitar
Appreciate it and my bad for not including that part as I had another couple of people ask the same from other videos recently. If you press menu at anytime, there is a save option at the bottom of the touchscreen that allows you to pick a location to save and type a name for the track
Hey new subscriber here, at 13:54 I think you may be a little confused about the record button. When you use REC, it's in overwrite mode and when it complete the last bar it automatically goes into OVER DUB mode and continues to record. It doesn't stop recording. This is assuming you have it in loop mode like you do in the video. If you corrected that further in the video my bad 😅I didn't pass the 20 min mark. I'll come back when I have more time. Great video though!
Thanks for watching and the feedback. Good catch, you’re right and I explained that wrong by saying it stops recording. It’s like 2nd nature for me to automatically press overdub after recording to disarm it that I half thought it automatically did it lol I use overdub 90% of the time and only use Record when recording Audio Tracks like synths into it…I had to review some of my other videos to see if I was trippin and every time, I hit overdub again without thinking 🤦🏾♂️
Bro thank U … bcuz I’m on the fence about mine I’m thinking of selling but this video is pulling back only other issue is I bought some packs like Arab beats & a few others & I’m not seeing them but this definitely helpful thanks again
Thank you so much, very helpfull!! Do you have a video about how to make a sample, edit the sample and how to put it in your song. I mean making a sample out of the sounds which are in the mpc, but also for example a sample from another source like a record player for instance. I hope I don’t ask too much , but I am so eager to learn. : )
Thanks! You can’t go wrong with either unless you play play the keys. The 37 is more inspiring at the moment for me …it may be because it’s compact and you’re looking at everything right there..the new buttons are def helpful, but I will honestly say it could be the honeymoon period. The Key 61 is overall better and faster and has the hard drive bay too….but….youll make the same music with the same quality no matter which you choose, so choose the form factor you like best
I figured out the hard drive issue by watching TH-cam videos so we are good to go there, I do have another question, Is there a trick to balancing out the volume on expansions and built in sounds, seems like the expansion volumes are consistent within the expansions but when I add something out of Fabrix or another built in plug in the volume is way too low
Watching how easy it is to record full songs, sample, edit, add/edit drums when you come 18:20 from a Roland/Korg background makes me jealous. 😂😂😂 Why aren’t you “deep diving” the menu? Why doesn’t it take 12 button pushes to change your ADSR? So many questions.
Man, if that’s a reason to sell it..then idk what to say. I’m not near it now, but there is a tab to save at the bottom of the touch screen when you open the menu. It’s pretty straightforward and will have you type a name and location to save.
Hi. If I wrote a song on Roland Fantom, how can I put it into akai and record vocal? If I dont have a computer. I just want to make the song without computer using only my Roland Fantom and akai mpc.
All I can say is that altough it doesn't do much that the X can't do, the workflow is slightly different due to the keys being available, and ready to go..The keys also have a scale/transpose section that is really good if you're into that...it is a bit more useful and easier than the Pad Perform mode. Soumds also load from the plug-ins about twice as fast. Do you need it? Comes down to preference.
@BLysticProductions I appreciate that .. I think it will be kool to purchase vs people having 4 drI'm machInes 😆... thanks for your perspective.. got you a new subscriber 💯
I just bought the one plus. Wish i just went for key61 or mpc x! The eco system isn't bad, but the frustrations of the operating system is really bad. You can't move files from one drive to another. You can't access internel drive from computer. You can't even access the mpc from a windows 11 pc. Beyond that, hoping I can use it as a main core for a new home studio setup. Folks, save up mpc x se, skip the one or live! Not enough input/outputs, usb, no internal user ssd, missing 16 oled links. X is superior in countless ways!
Sorry to hear that, but they all have the same OS and sound. You’re right about inputs/outputs but everyone’s use case and workflow are different. The Live/Live 2 are both amazing and I could choose one, I’d choose it over the X almost every time (hence why I never bothered to get an X)
@BrandonBLysticLee I hear yah. Akai just needs to look at some feedback. The issues with windows 11 well known. Yet, nothing being done. The lack of ability to move plugins between drives or store them internally also sort of lame. In the end, it's all good. These are just things you wouldn't expect from such a solid company.

Does the MPC key 61 have ability to do 808 glides?
They all allow you to do glides/porto, but you have to set it that way in the edit menu..but the answer is yes@@Mspinello
