Behind the Design
The Air VaporMax represents a new era in Nike innovation. “It’s changed our whole philosophy on how we design for Air,” says Cushioning Innovation Designer Zachary Elder. With the VaporMax, the designers wanted to truly capture the feeling of ‘running on air.’ The designers started by restructuring the Air unit so they could attach it directly to the upper. “That was the biggest challenge,” says Tom Minami, Senior Footwear Designer - but it was worth it. “Without any midsole or sockliner, you get to feel the Air in a whole new way.” In previous Air Max models, the goal was to fill the sole with as much Air as possible, but with the VaporMax, the focus is on using the Air efficiently. “As you step down, each lug gets pushed into the Air unit, ramping up the pressure,” Elder explains. “As you step off, the pressure releases, creating that springy bounce.” After the seven-year journey from ideation to release, Elder and Minami are excited for what’s to come. “I’m super proud of the product," Elder says. “This new approach is going to be a huge turning point for Air - and for Nike.”
Nike Air Max Origins

For those quick to point out "adidas ultraboost doesn't change anything each year"... i get ur point, but they also don't claim "MORE BOOST THAN EVER" in each new version...
Hes Kicks but all ultraboost are promoted as the shoe with the highest energy return ever, but the energy return from 1.0-2.0 etc dosent change regardless. general consumers don’t compare new versions to old versions, they compare new versions to other model’s new versions, putting the word like ‘most air’ or ‘most energy return’ shows that it’s the kind of that category and is a marketing tactic for the general consumer.
It just seems like you’re ripping Nike for something that really wasn’t worth digging and you put a lot of energy to it. That’s why there’s so much backlash, especially with how highly you praise the Ultra Boost and as many pointed out, every version is the same and not a peep has been said about it. Pretty sure “More Air Than Ever” is going to be the marketing slogan for every Vapormax that follows. But hey what do I know
that was the promotion of Ultra boost on the 1st model... and you are comparing apples to oranges. the UB is the SAME shoe in 1.0-4.0 its not the "ULTRABOOST 2". This is the Vapormax 2, which has a different build, it is DIFFERENT. but the promotion is the same.
This is a super semantics argument. The numbering is the same exact thing fam. If they would have put Vapormax 2.0 and released the same shoe that changes nothing. Its an incremental updated model thats all this is. And the rumor about the Psi change is has been going around. Ill say this there is something diff I feel in the sole for sure I have the MOC 2 and it feels alot more plush than the og Vapormax that had almost the feel of a molded football cleat. I could be wrong but thats how it feels to me.

Chase Moreau Dont assume the price would be discounted just because a new one is out in the market. If there is a strong demand for the old product, what would reducing the price do? It wouldnt boost the demand significantly, it would rather upset the current community that have bought the first version at a much higher price. So sticking to the current price for both shoes would be a better choice for new consumers to try both out and have a fair selection at the same price.

I've bought same cw of Vapormax 2.0 on the air max day and honestly I love that pair. FOR ME it's very comfortable and looks amazing. I'm looking forward to buying more shoes with Vapormax sole.

They aren’t talking about the size of the bubbles, they’re talking about how much air is pumped into them. Meaning they have a higher psi, adding more support
I like the fact that the sock collar is slightly higher on the v2 and the addition of the pull tab. Other than that, nothing else matters...

I picked these up from Hibbert. Got a nice discount code from them after signing up from your video. I have 4 Vapormax Flyknit 1's and I like these. Maybe not as much as the 1's as there are still several colorways of that shoe that I still want. Hopefully they go on sale or hit outlet. I got this one to actually walk in. I have been walking in the 1's and they are great, so I think this model will be even better with the heel cup and pull tab for actually wearing for exercise. A couple of the other colorways looks pretty good, but I don't see myself buying multiple versions like the 1. That black with the blue bottom looks good though.
Nobody complained when the ultraboost “evolved” from the 1.0 to 2.0

U should cut the outsole of a pair of Ultra Boosts off (or and pair of shoes with boost) and see how durable the boost is by wearing them around

Hes, is it true that the new ones feel a little bit wider than the originals? If so, it might be a must cop for me, the og's just felt extremely narrow to me.
These are not the type of shoe to wear to work all day it’s definitely only for running I think the air makes it very bouncy and fun to run in but walking around at work all day really is painful feels like high heels it’s a freaking workout and headache definitely aren’t for a casual day

Wrong. The ORIGINAL vapormax has bubbles, just bubbles. The VP2, has bubbles in the front and some zigzag bubbles in the back, or vice versa, can't remember exact placement. My point, is the 1st one is the best and has the most air, the #2s suck!! Not as much bounce or support.

I guess they improved it, my 1s are still pretty loud and its been over a month

The knit itself is also different quality.... but yeah I get your point. The only difference is that Adidas can go with the "if it aint broke dont fix it" approach because UBs are widely liked. Vapormaxes, on the other hand, are very alienating. Some people absolutely hate the feel of the sole and thats what Hes is getting at. They did nothing noteworthy that would expand their consumer base.

The updates are more substantial than the ultraboost line. All they have done is change the prime knit pattern. The vapormax has all new overlays, pulltab, and the knit has changed too. And when they say the most air ever. They are talking about the unit in general, including the 1.
I think you were reading into it too much,. It seems they were speaking in general since the air unit did not change from the 1st iteration so it technically is still the most air ever.

People claim the Vapormax 2 contains more "Air", but as how Nike advertises It, "Most Air Ever", It simply generalizes the Vapormax franchise. That the Vapormax series line, regardless the version will have the most Air compared to their other air related cushion technologies..
Because If the Vapormax 2 contained more Air like what people thought, then Nike could've emphasized on that Important detail, and could've given more information, or to be compared with the Vapormax 1.
And also, Vapormax Is that cushion sole, and It Is like how the Airmax was introduced, and later on was integrated to their othershoes along with other series line, hyperfuse, lunarlon, flyknit etc...

Adverts are to make you be pulled in, with images that pop or extreamitised titles. It's a way of getting money and them saying "most air ever" is probably more of way of luring you in so that get money or maybe it has more pressure in the shoe possibly but we're not supposed to know that

When I saw the Vapormax I hated them. At that point you could get the Johanna Schneider versions.
Now I wish that I would have bought a pair, absolutely love them.

I own both versions of Vapormax. My friend and I did a few calculations and both air units, and both soles have exactly the same volume of air. Both air units are the same size ( at least for sizes 8.5) and to me feel the same. I prefer the original over the new 2.0 version, but that is my opinion. One thing I did find a bit weird was that the air Max 97 Vapormax had a slight difference in volume in the air unit, though they did not feel any different than the original Vapormaxs.

Always got on the freshest pants .. you should do a video of the pants you use in the videos they all go so well with the shoes ... I find it hard to match decent pair of pants with some of my sneakers

I personally like the 2.0 astetically better than the 1.0 I didnt like all the hyperfuse on it. Also prefer the small and very small swooshes.

It’s advertising, they can make any claim they want and it’s up to you to take it with a grain of salt. They want to sell the idea, not necessarily the hard fact of it having more air...is it a higher psi? Are the bubble segments a few millimeters bigger/smaller?
the only question I think people ask is "what is different" and they dont tell that story, so consumers like me are left guessing. I dont want to guess if I am paying $190 for a shoe
