Thankyou for your work filming and posting this video of Eastbourne. I’m an expat living on the coast of British Columbia. I was only briefly in Eastbourne in 1966 ,with my parents, to show me where my father was born in 1912 on Blackwater Road, so I am grateful to you for this chance to see Eastbourne, and enjoy the beautiful seafront.
Eastbourne is a very nice town, it's my 2nd year living there. But depending on the area you live, you may have random people shouting, screaming and doing as much noise as they possibly can from 22:00 up to 4:00 - 5:00 in the morning just for the sake of waking up and annoying as much people as the can.
Cool video. I just rented a month long airbnb in Eastbourne.. flying to London in 2 weeks and "Hope" the train strike doesn't slow me. Thanks for the video.. Curtis, 56, retired US Navy
We went here on holiday about 17 years ago, it was red hot, we stayed at that hotel opposite to pier, slightly on the right, it had a black roof and a dome, it belongs to Alpha Travel. The crazy golf just opened when we were there, we visited Redoubt Fortress too.
Would love to know what that hotel is like - It looks like it's in the ideal spot! Thank you for watching my GImbal Walk TV TH-cam Channel - it really does mean a lot If you haven't already you can subscribe to the channel (it's totally free!) here so you see all the new places I go. 👉🏻 bit.ly/GimbalWalkTV And if you haven't already come and join our fun and friendly Facebook group! The slope on the Pier is the result of the landward end being destroyed by a storm in 1877. When rebuilt it was at a higher level to reduce possible storm damage by crashing waves in future, hence the slope (the steps were added much later to allow those with mobility problems to hold the handrails as the wooden decking gets slippery when wet). During WW2 a section of the Pier was removed to prevent German troops disembarking from boats and machine guns were installed in the old theatre at then end of the Pier. Most of the decking was made of wood, but after WW2 when the missing section was re-decked, the centre section was changed to concrete.
Thankyou for this our family live in mead Eastbourne, we walked many miles when we were there in 2015 such a lovely town our first time there was in early 2000s have been back in Dec 2011 and it is time to return again. We saw the airshow in 2015. Now there is story about those lions so we were told I see the building that was burned down it is a great town and the people we met were so nice, I have some peebles from the beach in my china cabinet At 7.36 that hotel was on some TV show across from the pub Crown and Anchor. I do know that Roger moore also lived in Eastbourne but further back the other way towards the downs in the big ugly tower block, anyway we are now home sick but a great walk a bout
@@GimbalWalkTV we so miss Eastbourne but we will return to explore other places next time, nice video you do I have watched some of yours before, hope that you have a great summer, here in New Zealand at least for now our autumn is still warm thanks for that
@@merledoughty5787 Thank you so much! I hope you have a great one too - I have a feeling you're going to be much warmer than it is here - very gloomy this morning!
I enjoyed the video and what you had to say.I worked at the King's Country Club Eastbourne as a musician many years ago.I don't live in that area.I doubt if it's still there.
You forgot to mention that Theresa May was born in Eastbourne and that Charles Webb - the author of The Graduate - lived in Eastbourne for many years before he died in 2020.
Probably most famous resident was the explorer Ernest Shackleton. Tommy Cooper only had a summer home and Roger Moore living in South Cliff Tower is a well worn myth.
I’m 5th generation Eastbourne and have no idea where those steps came from on the pier. Part where they are used to house those penny machines that would move, such as ghosts appearing etc and opposite you could fish out plastic ducks with numbers on bottom. there was a fortune telling machine by the name of Morgana. I was told yesterday funnily enough that now the Sheik owns it you’re no longer allowed to fish off the end? Also, the direction you are walking in is obscured by the Queens hotel if looking from the Holywell Meads end as the Duke of Devonshire wanted to hide the area where the ‘rif raf’ (such as myself) live.
Thanks great Promo for our town. However did you see those naughty cyclists riding along the Prom. Well they risked getting a £500 fine for doing that as its not allowed. Although skateboarding .skating using mobility vehicles are. Ridiculous in my opinion given we need to stop pollution which has been hi lighted as being particularly bad in the town.
@@GimbalWalkTV Actually no. I live in Eastbourne and used to work for the regional sewage company. During heavy storms it's sometimes necessary to bypass treatment and vent at sea, but when this happens the tide and currents take anything nasty eastwards towards Hastings. (Sorry Hastings) Eastbourne has had an official 'Good' bathing water rating for many years now. Great video, BTW.
Depends on your outlook. Happy to let the riff-raff live in the more 'exciting' Brighton or Hastings. Close enough to visit and easy enough to come home afterwards

Where I was born and grew up! Had loads of fun in the disco (*shows age*) on the pier as teenager…
Ah happy memories hopefully!

Everybody omits the harbour. Well worth a look.
Will give that a whirl - thank you for the tip - very much appreciated as I"m an Eastbourne newbie!

It isn't. My parents went there in the 70s with likes of Paul Shane from hi de hi performing before they bought a holiday home in Pevensey bay.
Thank you for this lovely video. I also enjoyed the background music - I remembered it from another vid of yours. 👍🎉
Thank you Irene.
Hope you are safe and well ❤️

Crikey!
Those steps are a real mystery aren't they! They don't seem to serve any purpose!
Fishing restarted a while back.

The Beachy Head lady "evidence" is very much open to question (and is probably politically motivated).
